A brilliant brilliant tune. Reminds me of the white polar neck I used to wear with my chequered zoot suit In Camden Town on rockabilly night. Great memories.!!!
A happy centennial birthday to Big Joe Turner, who would've turned 100 years young this day of May 18, 2011! Even in another hundred years from now, people will be remembering (as well as singing & dancing to) this great tune, among many others this talented performer had done!
not exactly...I use this video to automatically play on my myspace to express my appreciation for big joe turner..It also helps other people who don't know about about real r and b become familiar with big joe turner....
@DrSwami@DrSwami Close you eyes and let the sound enrich your soul. Music of that era was made for the ears, not the eyes. I have a friend that is blind, can not see. Their world comes to them through their ears and physical touch. I thank the lord god above that technology allows me to share this with you. My glass is half full, yours is half empty, a pity.
'THE BIG JOE' ----->>> some of the greats play one to a few (musical) instruments..... but when uz gott a man like me main man 'THE BIG JOE' playing a whole orchestra (5+ people & on a good day) my/ur knees knock and somehow do it in tune.
I was introduced to this song in 1955 when my cousin was playing 78s (anybody remember those BIG records) and this one blew me away then and it still does today. This is MY SONG and done by MY MAIN MAN of Rhythm & Blues (R & B) & Rock N Roll both. Big Joe Turner will always be the BOSS MAN OF THE BLUES.
I love it when people sing this song at Karaoke. Obviously not as good as Big Joe, but they are usually true fans, and very passionate about this song.
I could just imagine Brian Setzer and his Orchestra doin his version of this classic, just like he dida great version of Loui Prima's Jump Jive and Wail
i have just became a joe turner fan i am 11 years old we came back from camping and on the radio i heard this song this is what made me a fan of mr.Turner and i will keep being a fan of this cause "i dont care if i die! oh my!"
@Randhawa7654321 You are an awesome 11 year old, 14 YO @ the time I wrote this. Keep digging into the roots, you will find a very deep crop of great music, the origin of most music we hear today
I noticed everyone compares this song to shake rattle n roll LOL,,,,there was probably hundreds of songs with that same sound,, but shake rattle and roll was the first to hit the Main stream lol,,,as in white crowd lol
Great record from a great performer! Flip Flop & Fly is the answer record to Shake Rattle & Roll. Sag Drag & Fall is the answer record to Flip Flop & Fly. I can see the black & yellow Atlantic label record spinning when I listen to this.
THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS STEVIE VAN ZANT IS RIGHT ROCK AND ROLL HISTORY SHOULD BE TAUGHT IN OUR SCHOOLS. ALTHOUGH I NEVER THOUGHT I'D BE BRAGGING ON THAT "SMUG" LOOKING SCARF WEARING LITTLE PUNK. (what's with the scarf anyway.
MAKES ME THINK ABOUT THE EARLY DAYS AND RANDY'S RECORD HI-LITE SHOW AND JOHN "R" AND GENE NOBLES ON W.L.A.C. LATE AT NIGHT AND "THE OLE JIVIN'HOSSMAN BILL ALLEN WAY DOWN SOUTH IN DIXIE" themojoman dot com
Great R&B Classic!!!

Great up beat songs. Almost or the same beat as Ruth Brown. I love that kind of music. Some people could really dance to it.

You ever think a song (like this) was awesome, but, you just can't think of anything particularly useful to add to the conversation?

Joe Turner and Bill Haley first met in the fifties and became close friends. Joe did several shows with Bill & the Comets in Sydney in 1957.

Best singer I've ever heard!
I'm flying from UK to the Southern states for 3 weeks. Where can I hear the best of this type of music?
I play Joe's stuff daily but would love to hear something similar in the place where real music started.
