I remember being held in the airport at customs after a ten hour flight for about seven hours. The RCMP officers I had to meet and comply to simply had no interest in searching my luggage and my laptop for "personal exemptions exceeding over $750". They were clearly bored out of their minds, and thus just wanted to intimidate me into being angry. It literally took around five hours for these pigs to process around 30 pieces of clothing. I love Canada, don't get me wrong, but hate the RCMP.

I do not understand it. I am also a Canadian, but more importantly, I know that you do not need to taser a guy five times for him to stop what he is doing. He was unable to communicate with anyone because he did not speak english, which I admit is his fault. However, the fact that the RCMP had told Cisowski that Dziekański was not in the airport, and of how long Dziekański was stranded in YVR clearly states that the RCMP generally has no interest of helping anyone.

As to the airport. The problems there are symptomatic throughout the country. Almost every facet of life has been drastically effected by the cutback era that began when Mulroney was in power. Everyone in every department has been whacked to the bone. The cracks of society have widen and some many people have been pushed through to the street that we now fear anyone who looks poor.

The minimum wage is so low it's sinister, so how can YVR attract people to work way out there. The airport staff are obviously disorganized, probably due to cutbacks in personnel. There was no PA in the security area, so Robert never heard his mother, due to oversight or cutbacks. They could certainly use more staff on the weekends, I know I have worked there.

Going through that airport and all the security checks is a very frustrating experience for many travelers. Having the schematics of YVR online has got to add to the stress of working there. Where was the medical staff and why did the RCMP fail to tell them beforehand someone may get tazed? That is something they should WANT to know. Certainly there was a huge lack of common sense, but it may have started long before that day.

I am a Victoria resident. I've been through the YVR bullshit for years. Many of their staff are, simply, pricks, and an embarassment to the few good folks I've encountered there.
