His form was good but you should never squat in running shoes. Either do your squats without shoes on or buy flat-soled shoes specifically designed for squatting. I guess chucks (or similar) might work as well. Squatting in running shoes puts your foot in an unnatural position.
This exercise is the best in terms of injury prevention and natural leg development. Almost all actions in nature are single legged, and this movement represents the full range of motion of a single leg exercise.
@shav0nne depends if your joints tendons ect can take it.... i do "parkour" and you can drop 10, 15ft plus into a squat position on the toes (not flat footed, cuz ur heel would shatter) Your knees FAAAAAR exeed your toes but alot of people have done this for like 20 years plus, so it depends. Warm up alot first tho
highly ineffecient exercise, jeopardizing multiple joints (mainly knee)to perform a one leg squat. just another one of the many circus act exercises out there.
Do you all want a laugh?1st I Agree 100% about the knees going over your toes, and pushing 100% through your heels.Any Way Back to the laugh,I had some Bloated no body tell me at work the other day, that i would be crippled by the time i was fifty by going to the Gym all the time!!WTF I would say visually he was probably in the region of 35-40% Bodyfat!!What a wierd world we live in!!
For any work with your legs, push off with your heels. That takes the pressure off your knees. With squats and lunges, stopping mid-range and then pushing off with the toes or ball of the foot will cause serious wear and tear on the knees.
Tons of pressure on the knee when done improperly (on the ball of your foot). Completely safe when done properly (heel flat). One easy way to learn this is practice with your butt on a 3rd, 2nd or 1st stair step getting lower as your strength improves. Also, laying down and rolling into a 1 legged quat then standing. Finally the real thing... butt to the floor
The best way to do a one legged squat is with your back to a wall, or even better with your back to a Swedish ball rolling against a wall. That allows you to use proper form and work your muscles instead of tearing your knees apart as will happen if you try squatting like the guy in this video.
I get so frustrated with all this knees over toes b.s. When you go full ass to grass squats your knees will go in front of your toes. Watch an olympic weightlifter, there knees go in front of toes all the time with 100's of kg. They also have fewer injuries per working hour than any other lifting sport. Knees in front of toes being bad is a myth.
Not true. When you put your knees in front of your toes in a squat, your knees are doing most of the weight baring, not your glutes hamstrings & quads. It's not BS, it's not a myth. It's fundamental kinesthesiology. (That's a fancy word for the science of how the body moves)
With all due respect, if you read the literature there is no study which demonstrates knees over the toes to be bad for knee health. In fact, the only studies I have ever seen on the topic tend to show that wide stances stopping at around halfway are what are actually more dangerous for the knees. My common sense test for this is Oly lifters. Watch them workout, see the poundages. If it was so dangerous to do these guys wouldn't last 2 years in the sport.
Not sure what literature you're reading there friend, but you've missed out on the last few decades of exercise science. I've seen plenty of Olympic lifters do dead lifts- the ones that last in the sport do it right, the others blow out their knees.
Sir, we are not discussing deadlifts. There is a significant difference between starting a DL either traditional or sumo and stopping weight coming down halfway in a squat. And yes, injuries happen, but Oly lifting has fewer injuries per 100 hours of work than both powerlifting (which tends to use wide stances where knees do not cross toes) and bodybuilding. And again, knees routinely cross over toes in almost every standard lift and assistance lift in olympic lifting.
I used to do these all the time but I stoped because I think it's too hard to keep the proper form, see how he extends his knees over his toes - thats bad for your knees.
I tried and stopped at ten repetition, I don't have problem with muscles, but with joints lol of course, the fact that I'm not weighting much (66 kilograms for 1.78 meter) makes the exercise easier.

Possibly the best leg exercise, after ATG squat.

THE most healthy exercise for your body.

But isn't it bad for your knee to go over your toes? I mean thats what I've always been told when doing any type of squat.

Also, pushing off with your toes focuses all the stress into your knee and it doesn't feel very pleasant.

knees go in front of your toes all the time. or do you never climb stairs?

Climbing stairs is an entirely different movement than a squat.

The back is also not supposed to round like that, especially at the bottom of the squat.
