the only chance that WiMAX has in the US is if it can get real big and add a bunch of happy customers before LTE gets fully launched. in theory, LTE can be faster, but for now, the difference in speeds will not matter because the applications that would need the extra speed do not commercially exist.
and WiMAX is already launched real big worldwide, and LTE is still in final testing.
i think they will no-so-happily co-exist for quite some time...
i want to agree with that LTE will take over, but the operators who are spending all this money on WiMAX are going to need to get that money back before they do any upgrading. LTE and WiMAX use totally different equipment except for cabling and antennas.
just look at AT&T, they spend alot of money on their 3G network which still isn't fully built, and they have no real plan for a 4G launch at this time, gotta make a return on that investment first!
wimax speeds are that of cable, but wireless -- range for wimax is unreal -- it was oringally created for providing internet to the rural areas, although ISPs are installing it in more urban centres cause it makes more money
what that WiMAX really really needs are come cool phones that can be used as the modem also!
who wants to carry and pay for 2 separate devices?
and by cool phones, i mean they need to support internet gaming and streaming video, for now...

I thought WiMax couldn't be used when moving above like 20mph or something.
