  • Thank you for pointing out that permaculture (and really ANY workable solution) is about regeneration, not just sustainability.

    Peace and love.

  • i thought he was going to say sustain ourselves instead of worrying about what we cant control

  • The Good Festival appoves this message!

    Peace Is On The Increase!

  • For the Permaculture movement the most important assets are the people and the land. The government does not directly tax people, but they do directly tax land-property tax. What is the permaculture doing to lower property tax so if one does want to live completely off the land they can do so?

With property taxes the way they are now it limits many people from living a healing permaculture life...especially for young people who have little money to begin with.

  • Overpopulation is the main problem and is rarely addressed by the environmental community. It is time to wakeup and stop reproducing, because no amount of green washing will solve the ecological crisis facing society.

  • if the ecological footprint of every human was like that of an average person from Burkina Faso, there could be 23 billion humans on the planet. Which population would you start eliminating? If we removed the 20% of the richest population, the ecological footprint would be divided by 5, whereas if "we got rid" of the 80% of the poorer countries, the footprint on the planet would be down by just 15%.

  • However, overpopulated third world countries are hardly sustainable either. Look at Kenya for instance. It's living off its remaining firewood. That'll be gone in a generation or so and then the dry savannah/desert takes over. We all need to consume much less and confine ourselves to 1 child per couple - or better yet none.

  • You are wrong, their is enough food to feed the entire world WITHIN THE US. And the entire worlds human population could fit into Jacksonville Florida!

  • Sounds like Hippie thinking, were do I sign up:). FYI if you got all the people in the world to stand together it would be a 50 mile by 50 mile square.

  • If We all do, what we NEED to do, for just the goal of sheer survival... Real sustainability, permaculture, and ecology will follow as a natural extension

  • lovely. indeed the inadequate use of such terms as sustainability (usually as a label meaning "cool, ethical, trendy, modern" employed for selling stuff better) is a really harmful practice, i keep raising this point in discussions with the lay public.

  • Wow love the perma culture talk. Sounds like hard work but wonderful food. Hunger is the best sauce.

  • this is why we need communities that integrate the skills of various people because not everyone can be a permaculture specialist, but they could organize a car sharing plan or cook organic food. and it doesn't have to be a bunch of "hippies" it can be a group of people trying to stay afloat during these hard times.

  • Thnk you for pointing out the growing vaguery of the word "sustainability."
