hes my coach and when he first started coaching me (i was new to fencing and like 8) he knocked my foil right out of my hand and it almost broke a mirror
It's wired. Just hard to see as the video quality is not great. There are extension lights about a yard above the table in the background. Also, it is a grounded metalic strip as well. The last lunge in the bout, I'd guess, is supposed to be the really long one.
I had the pleasure of fencing against Michael when he was coaching at St Mary's in South Bend in the late 80's/early90's. He had the longest lunge-redouble I had ever seen and it was FAST. Even though I fenced for Tri-State U. Michael was always helpful to others offering coaching and advice. His advice to me about directing I refer to even today. A class A1 individual I am glad to see he is coaching.
mmmkay but this is a usfa sanctioned bout (notice the icon in the back) and thy have used wired systems for like 20 years soo yeaa and this isnt a casual bout claerly

@kramarics you're not a fencer, are you?

@babybearduck I am, actually. The last lunge, in itself isn't that long. But he starts the attack from far away, that's true.
