This guy is creepy as hell...... He's a deviant offshoot of humanity known as Homo Sapiens Nicotinous better known as the Nicotines, a race of natural born smokers......
I remember seeing this on John Craven's Newsround as a mid 80's schoolkid and being a little freaked out and grimly fascinated by it. Told all my schoolmates about it but never saw it after that so they probably all thought I was bullshitting them. Visually it still packs a bit of a punch.
@Misanthrope1969 Re: natural born smoker. I remember it on newsround as well. I think maybe around 1983. I was told they banned it because they felt it was too scarey, I'm glad I found it now.
My husband and I were both raised in households where the cigarette smoke was so thick you could have scooped it up in a bucket and poured it out the window and neither of us are mutants....yet.
I found this really creepy and disturbing when I saw it on tv in 1985. I was 17. Didn t stop me smoking though. I wonder who the director was, its very Blade Runner esque.
Lol. "Smaller ears because they don't listen". The idea that your outer ears would disappear through evolution due to not wanting to hear harsh facts about smoking.
Sorry everyone just the shock lol. Sadly, if this were to be shown today the 'shock value' would probably be lost on most people - we know far more know about the effects of smoking than we did then in 1985.
Thanks for posting this - this has haunted me for years, wondering if I'd imagined it as a very young child! It's good to know it DID actually exist - and see, once again, how terrifying it is.
Is it just me, or does the so-called "smoker of the future" kind of look like an orc from "LOTR"? Also, hasn't this already become a reality in most European countries?
he say you brade runner!!!

Smoking is a truly poisonous activity, but so is pernicious, intrusive British Government.

"smaller ears because they don't listen" - it's supposed to be a serious PIF but I can't help taking a laugh
The studio set look like something that I've seen in Aliens - they were filmed at the same year - therefore this is one clue

He also has no penis (because smoking makes him impotent)

Wow, the bit about the tiny ears was spectacularly patronizing. I know smugness sure motives me to listen to someone.

The point of the ad is to show what a person looks like when they're born from a mother who smoked while pregnant. The guy has birth defects
fbebeats 2 years ago
i disagree its to show what we would evolve into if we were meant to smoke. there is a fair amount of scaremongering involved but whatever works

I don't smoke, but this pisses me off.
I really wish people would stop ragging on smokers. If they choose to, knowing all the dangers, then let them go ahead and smoke.

and lets face it, they pay more tax and spend less time drawing a pension. Because they are dead!
So why should I conplain!

Well, we would if it weren't for the fact that inhaling their smoke gives us cancer as well.
Oh, also they're supporting an industry built on uncountable corpses.
