Meredith was a main character in the books, and Elena and Bonnie's best friend. Although her introduction on the show was a bit lame, she was an awesome character in the books. I'm hoping she will be like Alaric, recurring in first few episodes and a main afterwards.

@TheAppledance welcome to the club :) Every character had a major difference from their book namesakes, I wasn't really expecting Meredith to be the first :) And, Plec said this is the Meredith from the books, and she will have some key roles like she had in the books, even will have a point of view about vampires as she is a Fell. I'm not sure I can like her as a lame Fell but who knows, time will tell.

It was so surprising seeing Pauls wife in the last episode. When I see Nina and Ian I forget that they're a couple off set and that Pauls married because I get sucked into them being their characters. As soon as I saw his wife though it was like.. nope they're not vampires that's his wife and Nina and Ian are actually a couple. It sort of made it a little harder to get sucked into the vampire diaries and their characters in the last episode that's all.
