  • Great! But all the G sharp are missed =(

  • This is so beatiful. After 500 years we're still listening to it. Only really good musicians can do that, like Josquin des Prez

  • They're not singing any of the proper ficta at the cadences. Great singing but not very accurate stylistically.

  • @EazyRyder69

yep, this has been discussed in the comment section. I was going to use the Hilliard Ensemble recording but used this one because I thought the singing (and pronunciation of the text) was far superior, and had greater warmth and character. And they sing it like a chanson, Hilliard sing this piece as if it's a mass.

  • @EazyRyder69 The general rule is that ficta isn't used if the modal third suffices, and the cadence is not a major structural point. There was one place where it went into the tonality of A where I thought they needed it, otherwise to my ear the pure modal sound is preferable.

  • Blessed is he who allowed these sentiments to resonate through him long enough write this. He accepted, he surrendered, he forgave, and he did not indulge by dwelling too long.

  • @nyc11104 Exactly! and often the same writer would give contradicting rules and end up saying "do what you think sounds best!" In this instance, i actually kind of prefer the g-naturals. But, 'à chacun son goût'

  • Thanks for posting this. You rock.

  • This song is SO beautiful!!

  • All the rs are alveolar trills and taps even though Josquin's Parisian Middle French calls for guttural rs. Shame on you.

  • @marocon60

????? On prononçait les r de manière apicale à l'époque de Josquin.

  • I'm pretty sure the tenor is singing a G natural instead of a G sharp (as written)

  • @ernierap Yes, of course.

  • @ernierap ...and the soprano as well!

  • @ernierap The alterations written there are just suggestions. ;)

  • The music AND the score - this is really helpful. I am playing this piece on the lute (Narváez). Thanks and best wishes, AM
