Alright. I just got to give it to you guys. I've been watching your videos on and off for a while now and you guys most definitely know your stuff!!! I highly recommend you to any aquarian!!!! Great job guys!!!
im surprised you guys even made a comment on the nightmode in pumps to give the fish a break. does the ocean just turn off its currents at night to give the fish and coral a break? i dont think so
@disaster999 Hard to really know for sure, wind and other weather related events are what cause the waves. The wind and weather in general tends to be calmer at night because the sun isn’t causing uneven heating of the atmosphere with evaporation, rising and cooling air. This can have a big impact on water movement in shallow areas where many of our corals are commonly found. Less of an impact in deeper waters where water movement is guided by currents more than weather.
@disaster999 If it was pointless, why do they make it, im sure they make random shit, but really? Why comment... if you are so good at keeping your tank PERFECT to point out that, why are you wasting your time to view this...
@apgfeb14 because they want whiny bitch like you stop complaining how they cant implement a simple function. just because they put it in there doesnt mean theres always a good point to it. go ask anyone on the forums and 90% will tell you the same thing i said. why im watching this video has nothing to do with you.
Thanks for posting. I always like your videos. I do have a couple of questions. First, are two pumps required to create the various wave effects? I have a 36" 57G RR tank where I am running one pump along with my sump output and that seems to be enough flow for my primarily LPS tank. Then on power outages, what options do I have for keeping my heater running? (Other than a large generator.) Thanks!
The cheapest of those wavemakers I saw at my LFS was close to $300. Why does everything cost so much in AU? I need to find a good international online store... any suggestions?
hi there how much is this wave maker i would like to look into that for my pumps and could someone answer cause i have left many comments and no one ever got back to me even in your own site thank you
Normally you all are good at pointing out the pro and cons. I was surprised that you did not state cost as a con when talking about the vortecs. How much are the 2 pump and battery back up? How many gallon can that system handle?
@sirrealtravelr We try and represent the price bracket without directly saying prices because the video might be up for years. We don’t want to have to reshoot every time there is a manufactures price increase. We did try and explain the pros and cons of the cheapest wrought which is the on off style wave maker. For comparable flow rates the Tunze and Ecotech’s are in a similar price bracket and the Hydor the most affordable but all of the controllable DC powered pumps are not cheap by any means
I was just thinking about a battery backup the other day, here in Florida our power goes out often. I have a backup on my computer so it would only make since to have one for my tank.
@Teslasdik That is a very good point, there certainly are areas in the US where a generator is a requirement for a reef tank. At that point you also need to either have to have it hardwired to your house so it turns on automatically when the power is out or some type of battery backup to bridge the gap between when the power is out. If you don’t have the VorTechs or the EcoTech battery back up a big computer battery back up will work nice as well.
@xxL0CKHARTxx Seriously, If you have the this type of money to spend on pumps this is where you should put it for sure. The VorTechs look incredible in the tank and I really do believe the system is going to be healthier and more stable.
@adjusterfrank Thanks, the tank is doing very well considering how many changes we keep doing to it with all of these videos. I think we might add the EcoTech Radion LED light to it relatively soon, yet another change … : )
@SickWickedClown You might want to call EcoTech and see what they have to say. I have a friend who has a 270 and the tank is built into his bar in such a way that he really didn’t want to put the Vortech pumps on the sides so we put them on the back with surprisingly good results
Great job guys...awesome video! Definitely looking forward to the next episode featuring the "stealth" top off water reservoir build. In this episode, wish you would have also touched on how to properly select the correct size pump/wave-maker for your sized system.
Good tip on reducing the lifespan of regular pumps used on wavemakers. I always recommend controllable pumps made for wavemakers for the same reason. All three featured in this video are good pumps :)
awesome uys , back in 2008 when hurricane ike hit the gulf coast i was on galkveston island we ended up beign without power for 3 weeks but the tank went downhill in just 4 hours, i lost all my livestock and corals , that was my first ever setup and i got real discouraged. but you live and learn and now i have my 29 G nano going strong (even after a velvet apocalypse lol)
i love yalls show, great to refresh once knowledge and learn new things in the process
@JCE8705 Really sucks when things like that happen. Most of us don’t know how quick things can go down will without power until it happens. It is incredibly discouraging to see all your hard work get wiped out in a single night. I havnt tested it but EcoTech says the VorTech battery backup system will drive a single pump on low for 72 hours …. It can also drive the Radion LED light they just came out with.
@1chomps To be honest I didn’t see the value until EcoTech sent us a pair of VorTechs for the customer service staff to play with. It was pretty clear to everyone how valuable they were once we all had some hands on experience with them. I am looking forward to checking out their Radion LED light soon as well.
@MriBackup They are magnetically coupled which means the motor and prop are on different sides of the glass. The magnet that drives the prop on the VorTech pump is the same one that holds both to the glass. EcoTech designed it well.
Really enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work. I am looking forward to doing business with BulkReefSupply, have heard nothing but wonderful things about your company.
This is great, but the power heads cost more then my car.

would you recommend 2 mp40 for a standard rectangular 75g tank? or go with the 2 mp10?
