  • he sound a bit like a gay guy...

  • He's a nerd that had good intentions, that got caught up in american business. Rage fucking sucked. I own it.

  • 2:53 He is making that noise in most of the videos I watched.

  • @fifthgear93 LMAOO i knew a kid in school who'd always make that hm noise when finishing a sentence

  • @joby92

And I wonder, why is he making that hmm noise.

  • @fifthgear93 he has a mild speech impediment

  • As long as they put DoomGuy´s face at the bottom of the screen again, i am happy! Bring DooM 4 ASAP!!

  • Doom 3 looked incredible back in the day...to say THE VERY least, and it sounds unbelievable with a decent setup...

  • Hi, I'm John Carmack... The coolest nerd on the planet.

  • Gimmick lol " Hey carmack you forgot to mentioned theres quake 4 spoof on the game ehehehe " anyway i love his work imo id software is epic

  • I think game develpers are pretty cool guys. Ken Levine (Bioshock) and Todd Howard (Elder Scrolls) are 2 of my favorite Game Developers.

And John at the moment is doing a great job with RAGE. I hope it will be a success.

  • Love the ID Tech 4 (Doom 3) engine, still looks great to this day.

The atmosphere in Doom 3 and ROE is amazing and is hands down the games' main plus.

  • I don't play Doom or Quake a lot, but i have huge respect for those programmers. Truly innovative technology at that point in time. To some extent, I feel they forced Microsoft to take DirectX more seriously.

  • @PhantomAct i agree but i think doom/quake wer mostly opengl no ? think he still prefers it..altho i did read somewhere that he thought dx10 was alot cleaner and better than 9 :)

  • @serloinz The early doom/quake had their own engine. They ran from MS-DOS prompt and only thing i remember was that loader called DOS/4GW... i have to research it... such a long time ago.

  • @PhantomAct ya yer reet actually..i remember it too now. i think the dos/4gw was something they used to get past the base memory bottleneck of 640k ..not sure myself ..long time ago heh.. getting old now.. im sure tho most of IDs games prefer or use opengl tho no ? im out of the loop nowdays ;p

  • @serloinz iD games, lol, my brain just got hit with a wave of childhood memories. U're right about the dos/4gw but i still don't know the 3D engine. First OpenGL release, 1992. First Doom release, 1993. Could the two be related via an MS-DOS port of OpenGL? My money is still on Doom having its own in-house 3D API. Things were hardly standardized or documented back then. Wild wild West.

  • @PhantomAct wild west hehe.. ya im sure the original doom did use its own api ..cuz now i think of it gldoom came out later didnt it.. likewise with quake actually eheh dont mind me then i have no idea what im on about obv :) ah the glory days ;p

  • @PhantomAct just found this article on it.. duno how u get around posting links here so il try spaces ;p

    bit-tech . net / news / gaming / 2011 / 03/11 / carmack-directx-better-opengl / 1

take all the spaces out if u fancy a quick read :)

  • fight code entropy!

  • mmmh.

  • John Carmack is a total badass.

  • Get Romero back, Carmack!

  • @numberninteynine Haha - bit too late perhaps :)

  • id Tech 4 will be released under GNU license in 2011. Will be very interesting.

  • aye...aye....aye...Haha :D

  • ID tech 4 has always been the engine that was waaaaaaay a head of its time in grapichs perspective and did not really use its full capasity (because of the hardware at the time).

  • The Id tec4 is my favorite game engine of all time. The entire Id Tec 4 is like a huge special effect, I always hoped that as video cards would become more and more powerful, we would see the id tec 4 be used more and more, maybe somebody would make some sort of improvements like soft shadows etc. but it seems that this won't happen. X(

  • I really love this guy, has made some amazing stuff over the time.

  • great programmer

  • Smart dude. Carmack really mapped out the legacy of doom, knew exactly what to strive for.

  • Once crucial element that keeps the game ahead of its pace is the time it's set in!!

  • Best engine ever created at present day

  • I know! but it a wrong because i love Id software for the games to play! i will work on art like as arquitecture or graphics design! no making games! Jurisl85

  • Its very complicated sorry, i dont know how to make a mario on photoshop, i am not experienced with this work sorry.

  • To bad - if you can;t make mario in photoshop - you will never make games :D you have to learn if you want to make games! id software is 10000 time more complicated then mario :D

  • @JurisL85 It can happen! Mapping is easier to learn

  • Oh yes, thanks i try to know photoshop if it needs to join!

  • See if you can just make a copy of games like Mario, Contra, Duck Tails, just any other game. try to copy art from those games. make it in Photoshop by your self! so you can do art for other games! play Mario game, see how it works, how art works, and draw Mario yourslef starting from 0 !

  • its very complicated to use these programs because i never used but i can use the paint, haha to draw.

  • If you want your iD software - there sould not be anything complicated :) - Photoshop, 3D Max or Maya are THEEEE MUST ! Photoshop would be the very basic you MUST know to join any team!

  • @JurisL85

    Unless your a programmer :D

  • Ha ¨¨! i do some of art and i like music too... really let do the work as Id software?? but how???

  • Can You Do art in Photoshop? or any other programs? Can you for example Clone Mario or any other small 2D game Art (Sprites)? You will be John Romero, i will be John Carmack :D LOL

  • Hahaha!!! it´s my pleasure! it will be fantastic!

  • Ha ~! Do you do ART or Programming ? or Music ? :D

  • I love Id Software so much!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Let's start out own team like id software? :) really!

  • Great, thanks for adding!

  • No Problem, Much more to come! i have only 38 kbit/s upload :( so it takes ages for me to update even this 5 minute video :(
