  • Neil Diamond is one of the greatest songwriters/ entertainers of our time. He's written many great songs!

  • classic for himself and the monkees. great song! did he ever cut sunflower???????

  • Yeah, I knew this song in the time of the Monkeys, and now heard it by the original author and continues me liking as in the first time... ...The version of Smash Mouth liked me also

  • the rif in this song as it starts its from hey joe jimi hendrix ;)

  • nice I do not know that

  • One on shrek is better lol

  • I didn't know he sang this song and wrote it. I love Neil Diamond.

  • Neil Diamond is "beyond big" even when doing a cover of of the "Monkees...". Dan O'Niallain

  • There is a superb version in a Country-Rock style by barbara mandrell wich i higly recomend to listen

  • Neil Diamond's version of "I'm a Believer" surpasses The Monkees' version on different levels. The Monkees' recorded & released their version before Neil did, although Neil wrote it.

    Bravo, Neil Leslie Diamond!

  • my grandmara loves neil dimond!!!!!

  • @miascoffman

so do i. my family used to say neil diamond is my boyfriend ..because i ws such a fan .....HOW I WISHED!

  • I love this version so much. It's amazing that Neil wrote the song and recorded it before the Monkeys recorded it.

  • the best of all

  • I've been listening to a lot of your songs, Neil. I love them more than ever. Going to go down and buy some of your CD's. Thanks to Youtube.

  • Compared to the Monkee's version, Neil's original uses some great orchestration. Both horns and strings. I suppose his version was more expensive to produce due to that.

  • Beatles got nothing against Neil Diamond

  • @Kiefer89 Yeah you keep on dreamin...

  • My husband favourite song,he was singing it to me when he mat me.

  • Jim Morrison was out to get Neil but look who won out...Dan O'Niallain

  • No, Neil made the money. He wrote the damn song so he got all the publishing rights and royalties.

  • @thenazz32 Well, that's not entirely true. Neil got the publishing royalties, but not the mechanical royalties (except for his version). The Monkees made a good deal off the mechanical royatlies for their version, but I think Neil probably made more in the end.

  • I like Neil Diamond's original best (except for EMF, Reeves & Mortimer's version, of course).

  • I thought it was the Monkeys/Davie Jones. Learn something everyday.

  • @bertrand54,

How could they have made more money than Neil off this song? Neil gets writer's royalties which continue every time the song is played or recorded and sold.

  • first tune I ever learnt to play on the piano. Thank You Neil for such great songs....

  • Biy this is miles better than the monkeys and I didn't know he wrote it. Awesome

  • Neil Diamond wasn't part of my generation but I put him on my bucket list to see live. He's such an icon, so unique and a pioneer in the industry. I love music in general, but this guy is on my top 3 list for live performances. Very enjoyable and entertaining show. Dancing galore throughout the entire performance and a very festive atmosphere. If I get the opportunity to see him again I will certainly go.

  • @nyseattitude If you are new to ND, buy the original Hot August Night (MCA 1972) CD pack - his first live performances at the Greek. Listen to them over and over. These are the core ND hits. Follow that up with songs from songs from Serenade, Beautiful Noise, I'm Glad You're Here Tonight, The Jazz Singer, you can skip to Tennessee Moon, Three Chord Opera and Home Before Dark. To me, the original core (Hot August Night) is the best CD ever produced and released. Welcome and good lisening.

  • who is the artist of this? Neil diamond or the monkeys?

  • Here, Neil experienced a goddess who emancipated him to dig in the title of the song. On Her face he found the entire song with its catch-line. A spiritual feeling of Love from a teenage Jewish boy from Brooklyn. Maturity at its Peak ! Numero uno. ~ SuperSolomon74 (India)

  • neil diamonds a classic man

  • @xXL0wD0wNXx this is manly, u are ghay

  • @xXL0wD0wNXx grow up you twat

  • Neil Diamond was as much a "Rocker" as the legendary Jim Morrison...Dan O'Niallain

  • I love this question: 'He wrote this before The Monkees did their famous version ?'

  • @dtsussex simply delicious!!!! :)

  • @dtsussex simply delicious!!!! :)

    Shreck Rolls!!!

  • @dtsussex Yes, He did

  • @Moraimes Look down a bit further to the Kelly14UK entry

  • @dtsussex Actually he wrote it for them and then did a version himself.

  • @TheChak03 And it made him more money than any single one of his songs, too. Or so he said in a Blender interview, as I recall. Tell you the truth, I think Mickey Dolenz does it better, but that's probably a sign Neil knew who he was writing for.

  • @dtsussex

Of, course, even though he put his recorded version on an album a year AFTER the monkees released theirs, and this was 45 years ago mind you, we should all just KNOW that he was the originator. I love your pretentiousness.

  • Neil Diamond ROCKS!!!!!!!

  • Neil I should of known this was yours, but my sister fell in love with Davy Jones over this, hey I was shooting pool in the family room, listening to holly / holy. Love em bothe. Oh I,m oldish, that was ya back then.

  • One person does not believe u_u

  • was news to me too :)

  • I don't think so....Neil has made beaucoups bucks off this song......you can count on that. And if you add all the money Smashmouth (love 'em) and Monkees (love 'em) made and double it- you wouldn't come close to Neil's bank. No way!

  • He wrote this before The Monkees did their famous version ?

  • Memories of my Dad's car on a long Drive....and i still like it!!!!

Neil could sure write a single or two...

  • @demonsbutterfly

Me too! This song (and many other Neil Diamond songs) reminds me of summer vacation road trips from my childhood. Those were wonderful times!

  • @bluebelle79 The good old 8 Track car stereo!!!

  • Way to go on the R&R Hall of Fame!! WHOO!! What a great crew to go in this year! Took them long enough!!!

  • @imhere64

  • the dog bollacks spot on love him for years

  • Check out Paperback Believer from the Monkles

  • This stands up well to the Monkees, of course Neil wrote it

  • GO AMERICA

  • @snax4max "Go America" -- that's a sweet comment. What country are you in?

  • Like. :)

  • im in a symphonic band at skool and we play this song its awsome

  • I love Neil Dimond!! one of the greates musician in my opinion

  • he wrote this song!@

  • I LOVE NEIL!

  • He has sung this alot but did he ever record "A Little Bit Me..A Little Bit You" he wrote so much great stuff in the 60's he never thought about running dry so why not give some away.....the songs made the Monkees.

  • I love this song.Espeacially this version.

  • I can see how the Monkees version of this became a hit, much more mainstream sounding, this version is great too, but alot different, more or less country-western sounding. Neil Diamond is an amazing musician though, never the less.

  • dude that is gross

  • how the hell do you know if my mom is gross?

  • just please leave me alone. merry Christmas :)

  • The Beatles never had anything to do with this. It has been covered by The Monkees and Smashmouth, who both probably made a lot more money off of it than Neil did...sadly.

  • I don't know about that... every time their covers of this song are played or sold Neil Diamond gets royalties... that's gotta add up.

  • I guess that's true.

  • @bertrand54 dont worry neil made 100x more money in his career than both those 'bands' put together

  • @bertrand54 dont worry, neil made 200x more money in his career than those two 'bands' put together

  • @bertrand54 that's true, but i seriously don't think neil needs any more money. I'm sure he's got plenty he's been writing songs for years.

  • @bertrand54 Actually songwriters make more money off of the songs that the recording artists do. Given the fact that Neil Diamond wrote the song, you can bet he made way more money than Smashmouth and the Monkees. All the Monkees and Smashmouth did was help Neil Diamond make more money

  • @bertrand54 Neil got the royalties... he did alright, for sure

  • @bertrand54 But since it was Neil who wrote, would'nt he get something based on the success of the cover versions? I would hope so

  • @bertrand54 (sarcasm alert) Yeah, poor Neil. Because of that travesty Neil probably can't make the payment on his fourth mansion or ninth sports car.

P.S. He might still get royalties from it anyway since he's the writer. I mean, I'm speculating here, but it wouldn't surprise me if, say, Dream Works had to pay him something in order to use "I'm a Believer" in the first Shrek movie.

  • @bertrand54 neil wrote it for the monkees.

  • @bertrand54 No..as the songwriter Neil would and still does receive all the royaties for this song..All of the Monkees were on a salary for the show..They were payed scale for their acting and singing.

  • @smasherhits

    Goodo

  • @smasherhits whats all the the fuss?.... Neil is plenty rich more than he could ever spend he is in the top 10 in all time record sales thats mega $... he was in one of the highest divorce settlements (like over 100 mil) and he was glad to do it. now what does that tell you..

  • @MOSKII58 Ya..so what's your point..and what kinda fuss are you referring to?

  • @bertrand54

Not to worry, Neil makes money on every record sold.... the monkey's only made him richer.

    EV

  • @SagginWillies

You mean the monkees...? The ones Neil Diamond willingly wrote for?

  • It was covered by the Monkees, not the Beatles, so don't go dissing a great band like them.

  • what the fucks this got to do with the beatles retard

  • i was looking this song up because my orchestra class is playing it- so i thought it could help if i heard the song- but god i cant take it anymore

  • he did write it ?? not as good as monkeys

  • The monkees are good but, there im a believer is not so good.

  • IT's OVER 9000 "views" :D

  • I knew this was penned by ND, If you listen to it, there is no mistaking his style, IMHO!

  • So Neil Diamond wrote this?? ohhhh wow! I didnt know that lol....!!!

Damn my freaking music ignorance :(

    Neil Diamond ROCKS!

  • @psperich ignorance is not yours; there's so much to learn -- one of the things makes Life good

(am on a Neil Diamond "kick" lately...)

  • @psperich -.- *facepalm* of course he does :D

  • @psperich How could U not know this????? THis is one oNeil's rsongs.....

  • @psperich, I'm telling you decades by decades. And finally now, you know.

  • Thanks to the universe: I was always able to choose the right music, the reliable friends and - most important- the appropriate fellows for MYSELF

  • ist so schwer unter all dem Müll Mal ne anständige Aufnahme von dem Lied zu bekommen. Würde gern erfahren, wer sich da ausgerechnet mit meinen Lieblingsliedern austobt??? Ach ne, ich weiß es ja

  • i agree

  • hahahaha

  • lol i was hoping someone would notice that

  • this fag down here saying he went out with donnalynn.....hahah...right you fag...i bet you live in your moms basement...

  • yep he does hes probably a 40 year old virgin that make porn web sites with all of his time because he has no life

  • dasha....neil diamond wrote this...and his manager had a daughter named donnalynn..who i went out with 1975-76.......her whole house was full of GOLD records all over the place. a great classic song by a singer who is honored in america,,,just like a elvis to alot of people.

  • dude i believe... i said i go to school with someone who had 4 mil hits and i get shit

  • im sorry to here that
