i actually got the Nas album, and i loved the lyrics, it really did have a message in it. it wasnt like he called it ''nigger'' and spit about money cars and hoes, why would a brother like Nas do that? for a rapper named ''killer mike'', he sure is smart though, i understand.
I get where Killer Mike is comin from but this is why Nas is genius.. And I don't know if Mike caught this but Nasir said gettin the record out for the message reach the masses was more important than fighting to keep that title.. The record was gonna b popular for the drama that came wit the title instead of what the content was.. And congress would have still won... Nasir is always steps ahead in anything he does.. The message is more significant than the title so I support his decision
put on Nas shoes for a minute: white house and congress called, $80 million withdraw on Def Jam, what more do you want? nas once said that just cuz of the censorship, it was a bigger statement to leave it untitled because the word is still a big issue/hot topic today - we are still not free from the social-economic prejudice. the Nigger mixtape was a way to get the people who don't have access to Untitled to get it on the internet - so that's why there were so many repeats
well, good argument killer mike, but then who's gonna pay for that threat to withdraw $80 million from def jam?...people by all means can download it, but neither Nas or you has that kind of money for it to be a logical decision
@TheAnastasiachavez There are plenty of youth that are into good music. Realistically, if Lady Gaga sells 5 million records..do you have any idea of how many kids are NOT buying that record? You can go out in any city in America and find venues packed for artists who've never even SNIFFED commercial radio or MTV on any given night. Don't put down the youth just because these huge corporations have convinced you that the kids only listen to what they're trying to sell you. Sucker.
@tomhubbard28 He is "quite dumb" because he feels that speaking his mind in interviews gets his thoughts across better than "making moves"? Maybe he's already just comfortable with his success to a certain degree and would rather use his platform to raise awareness on issues than just pimp himself? He isn't a household name, but it's not like he's ever going to have to worry about paying his mortage.
Nas didn't have the power or authority to tell Def Jam he was going to sell the record originally titled "Nigger" strictly online or just mom and pop stores. As a signed artist he was/is Def Jam's little whore, and does what the fuck he's told, period.
I feel what Killer Mike was sayin about how one should be willin to sacrifice and stick to their original thesis, if you will. On the contrary, Nas' message didn't alter because the album title did. Nas was lookin at the bigger picture... "I'm gonna reach millions upon millions in one way or anotha by changin the album to "Untitled" as oppose to leavin it at "Nigger". And in this day and time, the whole world needs to listen to the profound insight of Nas' words, not just underground supporters.
He be goin during these interviews...I honestly think he might have pac beat on some intellectual shit. Its not a competition at all, but he deserves much more recognition....I'm just sayin.
I understand Mike's point but realistically Nas changing the name to " Untitled" doesn't take the message/messages away from the album. The imagery of Untitled/ Nigger with Nas with whip scars on his back in the form as N tells everything.
@TheAnastasiachavez what you don't realize is like every music or other art form rap has different sides. check out arrested development, grits, even andre 3000. if you set limits then all you will find is the permeter of those limits.
i understand where he's comin from but killer mike is not nas & vice versa...nas is much more well known and commercially successful than killer mike, so he has much more to lose. i like killer mike so im not dissin, but he could put nigger all over his cd and it wouldn't matter too much...and i think nas actually did take a stand cause he said if i cant name my album nigger im not gonna name it...its still nigger tho, the content is the same as if the word nigger was actually on the cd cover...
@franciscoquinones211 And yet Killer Mike can talk about violence and drugs better than damn near everyone out there. He just understands that theres a difference between glorification and dramatization,
if u listen to untitled, nas is much mentally matured. had he called the album 'nigger', it wouldnt have promoted the maturity the album was to give the audience. nas aint on no streeet shit no more,he dealing wid bill o'reilly's n jesse jackson's n shit he dont care bout ur street ideas.he's using words to fight battles nw. 'nigger' is too direct to the enemy so the picture on the album is even stronger than the word.think u fuckers.
FUCK DAT SHIT! Not only is Killer Mike one of the realest niggaz in da indusrty, he on of the realest niggaz period! Everthing he says makes sense, and I cant say that about most of these fake ass, fraud ass, lying ass rapperz! As far as im concerned everthing that comes out his mouth is real shit!
nas dropped a "nigger mixtape", that dropped before the album. i guess only the new york tri-state knew about it, but its definetly on youtube. some album cuts on there, but that shit is crack!
Dont start no SHIT Asshole! Listen to the post again, he said that he should of made a sacrafic and just sell the album to mom and pop store and drive 1 mill. to the net, the Fuckin mixtape is on the net and i got my nigger mixtape on jamaica ave. 165st! It dont get more "mom and pop" than that! Thats "children, uncle, lil cousin shop" Hood shit! Fuck u talkin bout?!? BEAT IT!
nigga wat u tryna start shit fa..im jus sayin wat tha damn video about...EVERYBODY kno bout the mixtape gettin pushed frm mom and pop stores..killer mike sayin he shouldve stuck with the ALBUM being called nigger and selling it in real stores or jus keep it called nigger and push it out mom and pop stores...he mad cuz nas didnt say fuck it my shit gne b called nigger fuck if wal mart dnt wanna say it...nas got enuff power to do a mil in mom and pop stores...pay attention bitch
nigga it took you 1 month to think about that shit?! WTF??? Yo! Get off my dick you sissy ass! I know what i heard, I know whats real shit!
I fucks wit Killa Mike! I think hes a better lyricist than most of the south rappers and alot of rappers in general! But he was alittle misinformed on this topic! No big deal, it happens to all of us!
Nas got his message mainstream and keeped it gutta on the underground tip!
Killer Mike is my dude! But ain't it funny that speaks with so much passion and conviction, but sometimes it does'nt come through in his raps(keyword:sometimes). Why people sleep on this guy, I will never know. Keep doing ya thang.
