@bobokk Davey's actually not a rock star at all. He still goes to Punk/Hardcore shows and AFI still brings other, smaller bands with them on tour (Ceremony, whom they are good friends with). So, obviously you don't know what you're talking about.

And yes, AFI changing their sound was a progression, listen to all their albums and try and tell me I'm wrong.

You really want to tell me that this wasn't a progression? Afi didn't go from answer that and stay fashionable straight to crash love! They took on a more aggressive sound, present in shut your mouth and open your eyes, and in black sails in the sunset. This mellowed through the art of drowning, and eventually evolved into the more alternative sound that is present today.

Best AFI album IMO. I remember buying this album, following them for a bit, saw them in concert, they rocked, then I kind of vanished from the punk scene. Few years later heard Leaving Song pt 2 on the radio, the DJ said it was AFI.. that was a WTF moment.

Very Proud of Ya is my favorite AFI album. Some music artists, I understand, like to change their styles because they get bored but I've never ever really seen that with a punk band ... it's interesting but at the same time not pleasurable. It's too drastic of a change for me, honestly. I was still even okay with half of their The Art of Drowning album but after that I just never really listened again.

@bobokk Agreed, what BreakingGlass77 said was kind of stupid. I also agree with just about everything you told TheDatumAura. I find it funny how people say when bands go mainstream they are "growing" or "maturing". That's not always the case. AFI's new stuff isn't bad, but their old stuff is WAY better. And yes, I think they did sell out, because from Sing the Sorrow and onward, they changed their sound A LOT. The new stuff just isn't as energetic and raw as their 90s stuff.

You're missing the point. Ask yourself why people listen to music. You either like something or you don't - it has nothing to with respecting the "individual's rights".

AFI made a conscious change - it wasn't a "progression". You don't go from being a hardcore staple to playing shit pop covers on MTV without selling out.

As for the tour, when I saw AFI support SOIA in 2001, Davey came into to the pit after their set to sing along. Nowadays, I guess he's above that now.
