Well OBVIOUSLY you changed. I'm glad you noticed. Now, it's on MTV. Okay, AFI still makes good music. Not my cup of tea, but still very good music. I mean, it's better than half the music out there! If you wanna bitch about AFI changing, do that if that's what you were put on earth for.
The rest of us, more sensibly, will listen to Crash Love
EVERY SINGLE FUCKING AFI VIDEO/SONG I LOOK UP ON YOUTUBE ALWAYS HAS A COMMENT FROM SOME LITTLE FUCKING CUNT THAT SAYS "AFI's new shit sucks waa waa waa im a little bitch" SERIOUSLY GO. FUCK. YOURSELVES. WHO GIVES A SHIT. WE ARE ALL "OLD" AFI FANS. YEAH, WE GET IT, THEY CHANGED AND YOU NOTICED. GO BACK TO LISTENING TO NICKELBACK YOU LITTLE FUCK FACES. GOD DAMNIT LONG LIVE DAVEY YOU WERE MY REAL HIGH SCHOOL ENGLISH TEACHER!
@brenhampsten they never sold out. people change over time, and want to express themselves in different ways. just look at every band or artist in the world. every single one of them has changed over the years
@bobokk Davey's actually not a rock star at all. He still goes to Punk/Hardcore shows and AFI still brings other, smaller bands with them on tour (Ceremony, whom they are good friends with). So, obviously you don't know what you're talking about.
And yes, AFI changing their sound was a progression, listen to all their albums and try and tell me I'm wrong.
in high school back in the 90's it was all about being rebelious being your self and partying and punk music was the shit still is to me and afi represented that but now a days its all about guys dressing like chics and long hair and skinny pants kids are pussies now a days so i guess thats who afi does music for now!!!! sad!
You really want to tell me that this wasn't a progression? Afi didn't go from answer that and stay fashionable straight to crash love! They took on a more aggressive sound, present in shut your mouth and open your eyes, and in black sails in the sunset. This mellowed through the art of drowning, and eventually evolved into the more alternative sound that is present today.
@conradskill That's no progression. Name me one band that has changed as much as AFI has. To me, a band that has to keep changing styles is shallow and unfocussed. What are they going to do next? Disco?
Best AFI album IMO. I remember buying this album, following them for a bit, saw them in concert, they rocked, then I kind of vanished from the punk scene. Few years later heard Leaving Song pt 2 on the radio, the DJ said it was AFI.. that was a WTF moment.
Very Proud of Ya is my favorite AFI album. Some music artists, I understand, like to change their styles because they get bored but I've never ever really seen that with a punk band ... it's interesting but at the same time not pleasurable. It's too drastic of a change for me, honestly. I was still even okay with half of their The Art of Drowning album but after that I just never really listened again.
Jeez, every fucking AFI video I watch, people are always arguing about what to call their sound and how they're "sellouts" now. Check this out: If you don't like them anymore, don't fucking listen to them.
@bobokk Agreed, what BreakingGlass77 said was kind of stupid. I also agree with just about everything you told TheDatumAura. I find it funny how people say when bands go mainstream they are "growing" or "maturing". That's not always the case. AFI's new stuff isn't bad, but their old stuff is WAY better. And yes, I think they did sell out, because from Sing the Sorrow and onward, they changed their sound A LOT. The new stuff just isn't as energetic and raw as their 90s stuff.
You're missing the point. Ask yourself why people listen to music. You either like something or you don't - it has nothing to with respecting the "individual's rights".
AFI made a conscious change - it wasn't a "progression". You don't go from being a hardcore staple to playing shit pop covers on MTV without selling out.
As for the tour, when I saw AFI support SOIA in 2001, Davey came into to the pit after their set to sing along. Nowadays, I guess he's above that now.
@bobokk Well, he sang for Ceremony on one song... I'm not defending AFI's new shit, because I can't stand it, but it seems like he's still at least somewhat connected to his roots.
I get so sick of people saying this. You make it sound like bands have to keep changing their style to make good music which is of course, total bullshit.
The whole "they matured" argument is totally false. What about bands like Sick Of It All? One of the greatest hardcore bands ever who are still kicking the shit out of bands half their age.
Show me another band that did what AFI did.
The fans have a right to complain when a band COMPLETELY changes their style like AFI did. Sellouts
@bobokk weezer changed their sound and went with a new direction with their music. All the "old" fans hate it. I hate this argument though AFI is AFI I love them and always will don't give a shit what they put out really I always find a way to love the album ALWAYS.
@bobokk Yeah I guess I am a poser pure and simple for liking all of AFI's music, but if you would answer this, what am I posing? What am I trying to be?
@bobokk First of all poser is not the right word. i think you mean tool. second, are you really gonna critisize someone for liking all of a bands music?
I actually liked Crash love. It just sucks that when i go see them 75 percent of their songs are decemberunderground/sing the sorrow. As if they forgot they released the 5 albums before them
I grew up with this, you think the art of drowning is selling out, you need a serious and bracing reality, you probably think Tiger Army did too, your a grown up now so act like one and we'll all stay young with afi and every other band that rips shit.
davey cant growl anymore...and honestly i can see how being a punk band forever would get dull so i can defend their change there. i still dislike it but its not my band
me !!! i not .never i love this song !!! i love4 the lyricsm,,, the albun is the best new afi ,sucks,,,,, i would like that they play songs like this!!!1 iu love the drums..very fast....AFI 4 EVER
no ,,,afi no suck s ..but is not the same ...... obviously .. they had to change ,,, but i love AFI ,,, forever ,,, and also ,,,,,,, th enew albun come soon
As a guitarist, I think all AFI is good in its own way. Only an ignorant fuck would compare old to new. Two completely different things.
