ugh, I'm re-playing Oblivion on the side along with Skyrim, and Oblivion just seems like such a pain-in-the-ass now. Especially this stuff. The payoff of enchanting is good and all, but I'm really not sure why they made it so complicated and tedious. The worst part about these mini-quests is there's not really any reward. I've done like 5 and all I've received so far is a mediocre spell. /nerdragerant

you can step in the way of that spell he cast's on j'skaar and become 100% chameleon for like 1600 seconds and it's an alternate way to kill umbra at level 1

If you've got a bit of mage ability than you can easily find him by using detect life - to locate him, and dispell other - to dispell his invisibility he'll than say that you ruined all the fun, i found this to be most fun =]

@trepetro you need to get a welkynd stone from one the ruins that martin sends you to for the base missions, you have one and do a shock spell on the stone and you get what that electricity spell that all the deadra have. its awesome.

@mjsdecember1990 not really, the fighters guild does pay, but the mages guild lets you gain access to the arcane university, which allows you to enchant stuff and if your smart, you can find more valuable stuff in the mages guild than in the fighters guild both when your in the guild halls and when your on their quests since they send you in more ayleid ruins and that shit than they do with the fighters guild you can easily make a small pile every mission.

I beat the mages guild and got the highest rank but somehow I skiped a rank, so I didnt get one of the mage guild achievements (1240/1250) LAME... but Im gonna start a new game an level up a little then just do the mages guild

@Colouryoung97 Yes, you can join any guild. Although some guilds such as the Fighters Guild and Mages Guild will only accept you if you don't have a bounty on your head (wanted by the guards). When you join a guild you can be kicked out but you can go back in after accomplishing something for them. If you get kicked out to much ( I think its 5) they won't let you in any more.

@Colouryoung97 follow through, you never really have to kill the gray fox, youll do fine. I tried not to include spoilers, but seriously you can complete all the quests for both guilds no problem without conflict.

You'd think that there would be at least some kind of practical or written test to take before being allowed to join the mages guild.

apparently all it is now is a case of:

You: "hello I want to be a mage"

Actual mage: "ok you are now a mage"

You: "what just like tha...."

Actual mage: "YES sir.....just like that".

It's like me going to a random college and asking to join and instantly on the spot getting in without any paperwork involved.

I would assume that these guys might at the least give you some kind of test to observe your magical potential before letting you in.

when it comes to the game I'm not bothered about it at all.

@GhillieUpAndGo almost every city has a mage guild and a fighters guild at that..so go into any city and join...and for noobs, you don't have to gain access into every guild or anything like that. when you join one, you've joined them all.

hey im lvl 9 breton mage with the birthsign of +50 magika but no downsides. i need help with mana cause my good spells drain me dry

You can try using your level ups to increase intelligence which raises magika levels.

I can't remember but I'm sure there is a sigil stone that can enchant weapons to boost magika. Also, have if you have access to the arcane hall by completing the task for the mages guild, then you can combine staffs with spells you can't use. They get power from soul gems not you, as for recharging, just use the duplication glitch on a full soul gem you have. You can then use them to power your staff up.
