  • @royrichardsify sorry for the rudeness of my comment mate, lets agree to disagree :-)

  • 0:39 LOL a black guy on Rock he Rocks.

  • I CANT BELIVE THAT PRICK THAT SAID THE GUITARIST CANT KEEP IN TIME!! THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST SOLOS EVR,EXCUSE MY SPELLING IM DYSLEXIC, I HAVE AN EXCUSE THAT CUNT DOESNT!!! ERIC BELL RULES

  • i worked with Eric on the 20th vibefor philo whata gentleman! i was using a gitane Django reinhehart copy guitar. after the gig in Dublin, he asked if he could have a go and the Bugger can play Django stuff too! only guy to play with Jimi Hendrix's bass player and drummer UNDERATED? not by me!!!! what a great clip warts and all what an honour to play Whiskey in the jar with him at SLATTERYS on capel st

  • Oh dear Oh dear...just take a look at the German crowd....lifeless and cold as normal..hahaha..

  • weird to see them with only one guitarist but still good

  • Thin lizzy are the best but this guitarist aint so good i dont think cos he cant play the slightest little bit in time even on the studio version he cant play in time that is bitchy but true

  • @royrichardsify you obviously know fuck all about music, eric bell is a damn legend!!!! you like brian cox,and technical shite like pentatonic tapping and "technique",fuck off and comment when you have some soul, you disgraceful cunt

  • @honved1 I am a discraceful cunt who likes brian cox and technical shite and I humbly apologise for my comment.

  • i still get my records from the rock on stall!!!

  • i hate the dislike comments about people, but 6 people think they are rockers

  • This is real rock n' roll. Are we ever going to get a band as good as this again? Atleast the music still exists whenever we want to hear it. It's a shame so many will never see Phil and the boys live though.

  • This is like Eric, Jack and Bruce. Rock and roll

  • Fucking odience!!!! XD XD

  • Phil's Hammer Bass, Brian thrashes his drums, it's a pleasure to Eric's mega great guitar game speaks for itself and the middle section looks probably unparalleled in the history of rock music - whether live or the long studio version, "The Rocker" is one of the best Thin Lizzy songs ever! Rocking greetings from Germany.

  • Phil Lynott is god

  • 6 people must rott in hell :)

  • happy b day phil!

  • @tiborzkarate That must be it, or maybe they just weren't used to showing much emotion in public? I don't know, but I also noticed that European audiences were very reserved for the Stax-Volt performers in the 1960's. The singers had to really work and, encourage the audience to do anything.

  • Anyone see Bracknell sports centre 73 with Phil and his bass spot light mirror. Way cool. Gary Moore was and probably still is brilliant .

  • 1:39 UNGRATEFUL GIT! GOT TO SEE PHIL, ERIC AND BRIAN IN THE ORIGINAL LIZZY PLAYING THE ROCKER AND HE'S PISS BORED!

  • Eric Bell, a most underrated guitarist if ever there was one, and not a valve amp in sight, just a pair of HH 200 watt tranny amps, a homemade cab, a colorsound overdriver and a wah wah, he sounds better than most.

  • I can`t understand, why the crowd is sleeping....

  • Why dose the people in the beginning look like: " OMG what the h**l?" :D The Rocker, best song i think from Thin Lizzy :D

  • I've always said if Jimi Hendrix ever picked up a bass this is what is would sound like--he was way ahead, not many bassists could sing and play that good--no one has, or will, touch Phil.

  • What a vintage performance and recording - Phil knew what he wanted all along :) - guitanorak

  • That is an awesome performance, proving Lizzy we're so ahead of their time. Its a shame they had to wait until 1976 before becomming commercially succesfull, because the energy and talent was there long before 76, as this footage shows. God bless Phil Lynott !

  • I hope the director of this program got fired after this aired. It's like the guy said "I'm bored with shooting high energy rock n roll bands, so I'm going to show the audience, the cameramen, and just about anything else I can think of instead of just showing the band". This is why you should never trust TV directors.

  • Seems like crowds back then tended to be more reserved..like they're at a ballet or opera or something..

  • Well, this is a studio audience, not a proper concert audience. It's the same today, when you watch TV programs with live music in them, the audiences always much more sedate than they would be at an actual concert.

  • @Kohntarkosz Yeah, I think you are right about that, generally..although at the shooting of "Smells like Teen Spirit" the director's instructions to the audience were to remain seated and look apathetic, or something like that..that's hardly how it turned out! Crowd diving and moshing came in a bit later than thisThin Lizzy period..

  • This is pretty good never seen this before

  • fuck sake tat guy pause at 0.40 i want to slap him makein that ches

  • Lizzy´s on fire and sounding even better than on "Vagabon

    ds..", this is killer!

  • Did they pass out ludes to this audience on the way in? They all look like they're in a freakin' coma.

  • Can't say Thin Lizzy is under the radar really :P

  • FOREVER

  • my god eric bell's on fire!

  • LEGEND TO ROCK N ROLL ROCK ON

  • The camera angles were more focused on the ART logo, crane shots, and bored footage of audience members than of the band itself. I would have preferred a close-up of Eric's guitar solo instead of a view of the lighting rig...

  • them kids looked bored....lol. If they only knew then what a legend Phil would become.

  • ufo/thinn lizzy thay still kick ass no one can fuk with these bands

  • oh my god i love him so much

  • 6 shitty critics this is brilliant!!!!!!!!!!

  • MY FAVE RAVE LIL ROCK AND ROLL BAND OF ALL TIME--ABSOLUTELY---LOVED THEM 1973-1979.

  • what's the matter with that audience? if they only knew in 37 years how bad music would suck they'd be offering sacrifices to these gods of rock! i guess its no surprise why david hassellhof would be so popular there.

  • @Tweekki Thats how European,English and Japanese audiences were back then. They listened. Headbanging wasn't a deal for them until 75 or so.

    They were much more"proper".

  • Very, very underrated band. If you are a Rock N' Roll fan, and you own no Thin Lizzy.........Well, step back and ask yourself "why"?

  • I guess no matter how great you are as a band and how well you perform on stage, some people will never appreciate you.

  • brilliant - saw them a few months before this at Sunderland Mecca - what a gig!

  • the crowd and the camera men must have been on some serious downers.

  • what is up with this lame crowd? they're getting there faces melted off off by discusting guitar, bass, and drum mania!

  • Good to see the crowd on valium...............you must not move or you vill be shot......

  • Didn't UFO and the Scorpions play this night too?

  • @NuclearHendrix Your right. But i think only UFO. If you notice in the background you see a UFO lighted sign back there. And if you look at one of the UFO videos you can see Klaus from the Scorps looking on. Axeflyer the one with the UFO upload can point it out. It's him.

  • phil using a rickenbaker bass....badass

  • This magnificent brush has never earned this so-called "audience"!

  • I`m a rocker tooo!!

  • Eric is off his face! He's just havin' a laugh here, listen to that solo. He wanted out at this point.

  • crazy ass stuff, one of my fav lizzy songs-sums phil up to a tee.

great back stage angles, like to have seen a bit more of bell on this one, think he left round this time.

  • sweet riff

  • The original Thin Lizzy. Great find. Eric Bell's solo on this song is one of the best ever.

  • Whilst the camera is fixed on the band, images delivered are the kind ANY performer would love to have, power mystery hammer of the gods.

Love any incarnation of Lizzy, a plus with Eric Bell.

  • That's just super

  • holy shit where'd you get this?!

  • Never thought of that but yeah that wouldve been amazing!!!

  • this is thee shit!

  • What TV show is they're playing on? Was everything on this show like this, or did the director just not like Thin Lizzy or something? He's showing just about everything BUT the band. Lots of shots of mirrors, the audience (including a rather bored looking kid sitting on the floor), even the control room, with only the occasional shot of the band. Well, at least the band is actually playing live here.

  • this is a result of having an awesome solo, u never get to play it live

  • I love this song. This is Rock N' Roll.

  • I never got to see Thin Lizzy with Eric Bell, so I'll take whatever I can get. Wish the cameraman would have stayed on Eric during his solo, instead of the unappreciative morons in the crowd.

  • Comment removed

  • wish they made 'em like this anymore...

  • The crowds should BE JUMPING!!

  • WORST! AUDIENCE! EVER!!!

  • i would have been headbangiing

  • OMG, the crowd sucks balls

  • HAHA the crowd is in SHOCK! hahah...I saw the same crowd at an AC/DC concert with Bon Scott....who was a FANTASTIC front man.....they just SAT there. DUUUHHH

  • your in the presence of one of the best (the best in my opinion) frontmen ever. and songwriters ever! cheer the fuck up u miserable fuckers!!

  • WTF. the crowds not doin anything!!

  • Seriously man, lol, they look like a bunch of corpses watching badminton or something, WTF

  • Thats what we liked back then - big drum solos long guitar solos and an earpiercing close up hell of a night ...without Eric Bell there wouldnt be Thin Lizzy.................

  • Lose yourself in expression sure, but a virtuoso must always be aware first of the song, then the audience.Self editing is vital. There is nothing more tedious that an overdone solo on any instrument, remember that the attention span of most humans is not that long, regardless how skillful you are.All artists, musicians, film makers etc have to be very aware of this.....

  • Can't relate since solo is clearly not too long... more Bell the better, best Lizzy guitarist to me personally :-)

    Cheers

  • This is "Eric Bell's" Thin Lizzy, the real thin Lizzy is Lynotts Thin Lizzy,The 4 piece band with Robbo,Scott and Brian. Bell was too bluesy for Lizzy, thinks he's Hendrix or something.LOL ,wanted some hippie type band, not Phil's vision at all.Any pair of objective ears can clearly hear, that this solo is overdone!!!Him and Moore never worked for lizzy, same reason.too blusey

  • Not to me pesonally. this the real Thin Lizzy but there you go, all subjective :-)...

And nay pair of objectivemear will hear that this solo is not overdone... worked the best for Lizzy to me...

  • If this was the real thin lizzy,it would also have been the most productive, creative and successful,it was NOT..why????

    Something wrong with your ears???

  • npoe, This Lizzy was the most creative one and best one for me..nothing wrong with my ears. Just the way it is for me...

Couldn't care less when they were/weren' tsuccessful jsut every band I listen, totally meaningless thing as music listener,...

    Cheers

  • @fasima i so disagree

  • @fasima i think i just responded to the wrong person, i love eric bell

  • Eric Belll always knew I so I this wrong of course...

  • Also clearly you can't accept that people like different thigns so no point continuing this. One can't ever get any kind of reslotuion about these things... this is music, not math :- )

    Cheers

    Cheers

  • such young brillint looking, energetic lynott! jus enjoying himself!!

  • fantastic sound, but what on earth were the production team thinking when they filmed this? Shots of the gantry? and the worlds most unenthusiastic audience too. what a strange video.

  • fuckin' A! Love any footage of Phil on a Ric!

  • love the way phil THUMPS the shit outta that rickerbacker!

  • anyone else spot the ufo amp at the end not a bad line up

  • haha fucking gdr!

thanks gawd 4 this awesome song

  • What the fuck, it looks like they're playing a mormon church in Idaho.

  • Check out the audience at 0:35. Honestly lads, where DO you get the energy??

  • Phil Lynott was so damn sexy.

  • THANKS to the camera crew for filming it and THANKS to whoever posted it. LOVED IT

  • Damn I miss Philo,..shame he and Hendrix never got to jam together,..would've peeled peoples faces off those two on stage, R.I.P...

  • @vonhogworth man for real phil and hendrix what a hell of a pill they would have did the deal i know this for a fact phil on bass and jimi's killers riffs u cant beat that not by a long stick oooohh yeah and for those that don't like it ......eat a dick

  • @vonhogworth

Brilliant combo. Who would have been the drummer?

  • they are jamming now BROV as we speak !!!!

  • Wow! Wow! I've never seen this one before and I've been collecting Lizzy video for 20 years!

  • really? that's so cool.......

  • Priceless!

  • Great live performance, its a shame that the audience isn't Rockin' to the Rockers.

  • Thin Lizzy,a band that's really under the radar which is a shame since they're so awesome.

  • how are they under the radar twat , ive been into em since 74 , i saw em twice man in 78,, your under the fucking radar pal !!

  • @gialla111 but in a way, it's kind of a good thing. That way people who appreciate the good stuff have a little gem all to themselves that most people would overlook rather than overplay... Take Queen for instance, they're good, but the radios CONSTANTLY play "we are the champions" way too much

  • Comment removed

  • they were a trio because Eric Bell kicked ass. He kicked so much ass, it took two guitarist yo replace him. They called it the twin lead.

  • Exactly.....I miss the Hell out of Phil, but WTF, is no one paying attention to Eric Bell sizzling,SIZZLING playing guitar?!!

  • Yea I gotta totally agree there . Eric was bloody great wasn't he ? I loved the Robertson/Gorman lineup too of course.

Not so sure now about when Gary Moore was in it now - especially after seeing some of the vids on here it has helped to remind me of what a friggin ego that guy had/has overplaying over everyone and even to the point of drowning out Brian at times. Gary should have taken lessons from Eric - lol .

  • its scott gorham not gorman and gary was in the band with scott not brian. (maybe for a 1974 performace of still in love with you they shared the stage. that's it!)

  • Doh ! I was talking about even Brian DOWNEY (Thin Lizzy drummer - in case you didn't know !) being drowned out by Gary Moore ! As well as drowning out Scott . Yes , apologies for cocking up his name - I was suffering with the flu at the time and could hardly see the monitor - lol ! I was also talking about the Robertson/Gorham lineup(Brian/Scott) being the best lineup apart from the Eric Bell years actually. Many thanks to ICETERICIA for putting this brilliant video on Youtube - GR8 stuff !

  • lol listen to the drum fill at 0:22-0:24

  • Is that Eric Bell on guitar??

And Lizzy as a trio, i never knew that!

First time i saw them was Sofia Gardens pavillion Cardiff, Wales in '79.

Snowy white an Scott Gorham on guitars..

  • Yes I belive so.

    I was surprised,

and he looks a bit perplexed himself, too!

    GREAT GUITARPLAYING!

    GREAT SONG,

    speciall second half.

  • I was lucky enough to see them in cardiff's Top Rank on Queen Street on a tuesday "Implosion" night...lol They were awesome, will never forget that night, afterwards we used to go to the New Moon club on the Hayes in Cardiff for more local live bands and a bottle or several of Newcastle brown ale, lol. Does anyone remember the Revolution club on custom house street back then?? Run by The Crazy Captain Brian and his wife Linda? Wow I spent many nights there stoned and loving the music.Good times.

  • WOW Thats amazing, i was often to be found crashed out in the Moon club stoned off my head , The revolution club became Smilies i used to go there as well..

Ahh tales of a misspent youth : )

  • WOW!!!!!

  • Long live Thin Lizzy and R.I.P Phil Lynott.

"I'm a rocker and a roller too honey!"

  • I was listening to Michael Jackson and then Motorhead. It seems that this song sort of bridges the gap. Wonderful. Bring on the Brighton road movement!

  • Excellent!

  • im a roller too baby!

  • i'm from europe but it don't have to with this but the crowd sucks!!!

  • Who gives a fuck about the crowd

  • lol I think that they were just in shock that so much awesomeness could come from one dude.

  • why the fuck are all of these stupid krauts just standing there ? did the stasi put ladanum in berlin's water supply that morning?

  • If you know anything about the Europe crowd in the early 70's and late 60's, that is that they are very reserved.

Maybe they don't want to get out of line?

  • What can you say? This is just fantastic. There was no chance in hell of ever hearing stuff like this on top 40 am radio back when this was released. You could only hear it on very late night underground fm radio stations. Of course, it just blows everything that was current then, right out of the water. Again, just incredible song, incredible performance, incredible musicians. Ireland's greatest band (sorry U2 fans, but, they'd tell you the same).

  • Sláinte

  • Thank You, U2 is nowhere near Thin Lizzy

  • Rrrrrrrrrrrockeerrrrrr!!! =D

One of the best guitar solos of all time. Yeah, I said it.

  • I can't believe this has been on YT for a year and I've never seen it.

  • Eric Bell was one of the best gutarist of the late 60s and 70s, and the others members of the band were all great as well, i love their early songs.

Thanks for posting this vid btw, pity it did not show film of Eric using the whammy bar at the end of the solo, that part is great.

  • that crowd has issues

  • yeah wtf

  • Things were different back in those days.

  • yea the director would kick em out if they screwed up his movie

  • QFT

  • I can't tell you how much I need the other song's from this concert.. The video and audio quality is superb. Think 'Little Girl In Bloom' and 'Slow Blues' was one from this run. :D

  • WTF is wrong with the audience????!!!!! Bankers!!!

  • damn Germans must be stoned out of their minds...

  • Thats what i thought! They don't know greatness when it's starring them in the face

  • is there any other song of this gig that u got ??? excuse my bad english

  • There's another 3 songs I think. They used to be on youtube but I don't think they're up anymore. I can't quite remember what songs they are though - I think maybe Things Ain't Workin' Out Down at The Farm was one of them, and maybe Slow Blues...

  • wish I was born back then...the world was blessed when Lizzy were around

  • he's elegance when he plays that guitar!!!! he was perfect

    (the songs still are)

  • priceless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow. This takes me back. Saw Thin Lizzy several times during the Eric Bell days (and before Whisky in the Jar) Truly excellent band. Wish I could go back there. Brian Downey and Phil Lynott were one of the best rhythm sections I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. I'm still a Lizzy fan. Thanks for posting this vid.

  • Don't think the Germans really gave a toss. That's why Trio is the only band I can think of that came out of Germany that had something approaching a rocker's soul. Too bad. I do love Berlin, even so.

  • You wanna listen to Lucifers Friend 1st album - they came out of Germany and were shit hot. So did Scorpions and many others.

  • this is a brilliant find. Is it the last recorded perfomance before Eric Bell left?

and more Thin Lizzy Mk1 much appreciated

  • You only have one of the greatest rock guitar solos of all time taking place. Why would you actually want to put the camera on the guitarist? lol.

Just another example of a self-important director making the show about him. Most of the time, I'd rather see a concert shot by one fan holding a camcorder.

  • Love this song. Great to see Eric. But sweet Jesus, wtf is with the director? Sweeping shots of the gantry while Eric is playing his solo? Maybe the 'Art' signs give a clue to this pretentious tosser. Thanks for upload though. :)

  • dutch audiance!

  • lame crowd :D

  • why the fuck is the crowd so dead?

  • Must be frontal lobe lobotomy patients.. hahaha.

  • hahahahah.. I seriously hope so if not this crowd have no taste for rock n roll

  • i forgot how good mr bell is i saw lizzys a bit i never saw bell with em he is good and still is

  • This is fantastic! I love Phil! Thanks for the upload.

  • beautiful ric

  • i love this song but the cameraman needs to be fuckin shot!!

  • Agreed, and what the hell is with the audience? Not even one single head moving. No applause? Wtf?

  • it sucks their so underrated they were such an influential band

  • In my opinion the best Lizzy line up,saw them around this time in the UK,They usually threw in a Hendrix tribute too, awesome

  • they are all in awe of THIN LIZZY (i would love to be there)

  • wow this is very early, nice to see :)

  • talk about about a dazed and confused crowd: phil and the lads work their a*ses off while the onlookers slip into a stupor of unknown origin. or were the bored germans simply still reeling from a war lost only some 28 years before? one wonders...

  • Best TL song ever ... thanks for the upload.

  • I heard this played as a single on the radio when it came out in about 197×. I would be about 16, and it was the definitive moment of experience of Rock 'N 'Roll.

    Recently deceased B
