@Katamariandme Actually when Nickelodeon aired it, they edited the intro and changed the narration to imply that, I guess not to freak out little kids (it's also most likely the reason Nick never aired the GFTC version of "Bluebeard" as well).

My grandmother used to buy me these on VHS and we used to watch them together all the time..I had forgotten the name of them and by chance I found them on here. I saw half of this long ago in grade school...my class was about to watch another video, but when we saw that this was on we became so interested that the teacher let us see how it ended. Because I only saw the second half, I never knew what it was called or what show it was on, so I never thought I would see it again...I'm so pleased to have found it now!

My fairy tale book calls this story "Furball." The girl runs away at the beginning because her father is selling her to an ogre for fifty wagons of silver.

Someone already mentioned the connection between this story and the novel Deerskin, which is great and deals sensitively with the subject of rape/incest.
