I miss this game. I use to play it a lot on the NES and I hope they come out with it on the Wii somehow so I can play it again. When I first played this game it gave me nightmares but now I just laugh at the bosses. especially the walking onion ring. LOL
the music during the story @ the start is some of the best nintendo music ever composed, It's been in my head for the last 18 years! thanks for uploading and not talking over top!
I don't know how the hell can a shrimp, onion ring, & shish-kabob(sp?) be consider "monsters". If anything, I'm the monster when I eat them & they're somewhere in my colon. :P
When I was a little kid when I used to live in Pennsylvania (Yeah My parents and I moved to Florida) I used to play this game, but I didn't know you were supposed to kill all the bosses to get the exit key. But when I got to the cactus and everything turned into HELL (Yeah I know the dark side), the grey heads in the BG gave me nightmares and the death sound made it even worse! I couldn't sleep for a long time! I didn't get past LVL 1, but now I'm 16 and dont have the nightmares anymore.
I now know how to play the game correctly now. But as I remember it, I DID beat all 3 bosses and got past LVl 1 and never got past LVL 2. And lemme tell ya, this game could give other young kids the same nightmares I had!
Haniwa were originally ancient clay figures from Japan which were buried with the dead as funerary objects. They're now a pop-culture icon, and can be seen in many video games (the Cappies from the Kirby series and the Cactuars from the Final Fantasy series are a few examples.)
i loved this game when i was little. i remember getting it for christmas. i think it's funny that all the monsters on the box aren't even in the game. the game is truly a classic in my heart. the music is probably one of the best things about it.

I played this game when I still played softball , so I always thought it was cool that Mark's weapon of choice was a baseball bat. Those little ememies in black look like they are wearing a school uniform...(at least when its on a T.V. you can see it)

This game has always seemed odd to me. How could Nintendo not notice all the blood!? This was back in their "even a single, nanoscopic drop of body fluid is wrong and shall be censored into oblivion" days, so I don't see why they didn't get rid of all the blood.
Oh its ok. Mark and slam people with a bat and kill them, Golgo 13 can take a sniper rifle and blow someone's head off then get freaky with a woman he just met and smoke cigarettes on later levels, but "Call Edna for a good time" had to be removed from Maniac Mansion. Nintendo (of america) -=INSISTED=- on it.
One of the scariest games made yet.
