Let me tell you guys something, if you honestly want to use wing chun in a street fight you have to modify it and use other tools in you arsenal. If you think you can just simply pac or lap someone in the street then your going to get your ass kicked. Trust me ive seen it before!!street fights are not rehearsed there brutal!
@minasz What a load of bull, where do u get all ur fake information from? Bruce Lee's foundation started from Wing Chun and still was Wing Chun by the end of his life. Bruce Lee did not throw anything away, the only reason he moved to other martial arts was he wanted to become a better fighter and not to stick to only one rhythm.
@aminul1984 Ive studied him. He didnt threw all WC away. Like invicible kicks and straight blast. Moving to the blindside. All those things he kept. But trapping he threw out and there was almost no trapping. ALMOST no trapping. I dont say there WAS NO trapping. Also by saying Lee didnt threw anything away is just not knowing what JKD is. JKD is sculperting your own system. And this you do by absorb whas usefull and reject whats useless. thats one of many jkd phylosophies.
@minasz I know what JKD is, I have done a lot of research and also been to a teacher who's studied under one of Bruce Lee's student. If trapping was not working for Bruce Lee then that is his JKD but if trapping works for someone then this will be his JKD, so the conclusion is trapping in Wing Chun can be useful if the person using it feels comfortable with it. Everybody's body is different and no one will have the same JKD. My JKD is different to your JKD or Bruce Lee's.
@aminul1984 Yes very true. Everyones JKD is different. JKD is a system, a phylosophy. Your JKD is not my JKD. What works for me doenst mean that it has to work for you. That said I still believe Trapping as been trained will never work. If you have a real fight or you do ringfights you will share my view...trust me. I also ask why aint there WCman in MMA. MMA guys come from all styles except WC. Dont give me WC is for the streets, cuz othere styles R also developed for the street.
@minasz im training for MMA amateur fights Well Trapping does Work Actually BUT you must know when to use trapping . only in close range to clinch range should trapping be use . if he jab and you try to trap the opponent simply side step away easily . and WC Fighters Are stuborn to keep to one style for a MMA Competition . I've been doing Bjj Recently With WC And Boxing From My Brother . I've Never Been To Any ring Fights Before But Loads Of Street Fights My Place Here where i live Is FUCKed
@Wingchunskunk Ok Ill give you an example. Search here on youtube Jose Aldo (highlights if you want) This man is real streetfighter. Tell me where do you think your trapping will rescue for these kind of man. I can give you more names, cuz im talking about real fighers and not some neighbour who cant fight. Cuz those peeps, you can maybe trap, but instead you can also knock them out in one shot. Best regards. Its just my view..
@aminul1984 Like I said in MMA you have Karate, Muay Thai, Jiu Jiutsu, Wrestlers but never one WC. Cuz its simply doenst work. Those stance and way of punching. All the trapping is useless in MMA. I believe all this typical Wing Chun stuff will survive. If you think of trapping you will be knocked out of taken to the ground. People say WC is for the streets and MMA not. Well believe me I do MMA and I have some streetfights. I will kick his groin through his head or Rip is mouth open if I have to
@aminul1984 Conclusion, If you still believe you can trap or trapping is your thing. Well have a try out and not training when they say "you do this and I do that". Try to trap in a real fight. With tempo of a realfight and agression of a realfight. Well you will notice as Bruce did at one point. You d better train in Boxing, Kicking and Grapplin than wasting your time with paksao and lapsao.
@minasz Paksao and Lapsao are the most basic moves in Wing Chun, Wing Chun is not all about trapping, there are a lot of other things in Wing Chun. You need a good teacher to teach you those things. There are a lot of bad teachers now and most of the stuff you see on Youtube is not even Wing Chun.
@aminul1984 Very true, there is a lot of crap here on youtube and also a lot of fake teachers who r fooling you and themselfs. I dont say the whole wingchun style is useless. Cuz if you mix it with other stuff you could get some strong point out of it. Like moving to the blindside and go for a boxers combination or a wrestlers takedown for example. But im talking about trapping and the main thing in trapping is pak sao and lap sao. Well again in 2010 its pointless against a real fighter.
@minasz I don't think you understand what trapping is, Pak Sao is when you slap an attackers hand if they punch you and Lap Sao is pulling the attacker off balance, this is not the trapping in Wing Chun. Trapping is when you move in close and you keep on attacking the person. If you have heard of Leo Au Yeung then you will see proper Wing Chun, he studied with Ip Chun for 2 years then studied with Samuel Kwok, he's my brother's teacher and he also choreographed the Ip Man film.
@minasz WIng Chun does have grappling, but it has grappling without holding onto someone. But I believe that if you mix Wing Chun with BJJ then that is all you need for self defence. Both of these fighting systems are good. I have done a lot of martial arts, Taekwondo, Jiu Jitsu, Tai Chi, White Crane Kung Fu, and now WIng Chun.
The most simplest and best ones for self defence is probably Wing Chun and Jiu Jitsu. Tai Chi has some nice moves which are deadly. TKD is not that good for self defence
alot of ppl say bruce lee wouldnt have lasted in mma. But iv'e seen some old videos of fighters, even in western boxing that are alot more ruthless than the fighters we have today speed, power. So personally I feel bruce could have taken on mma. Ppl try to imitate bruce, but bruce's style was his alone. It was taught as a basic form for others to follow and change and adapt as they see fit.
@hakuboshi1 - JKD was never meant as a style. He merely trained and taught multiple arts techniques. JKD was a concept Only. JKD Translates into "Way of the intercepting fists" - which is foundational wing chun tactics. Lees speed & power rarely seen on film. Only some clips from longbeach show his full speed & true fighting tactics. Power is felt not seen, so testimonials are the best you will get. Combined, its easy to see why youth do not understand lees power/speed/technical superiority.
@blackoil911 why R you calling me names. That makes you only pathetic. Again there is no footage of him at young age is there? answer the quetion. Yes Ive seen that video..Helloooo did you think you discovered something pfff He was an old man and moved like an old man. If you think thats fast..well what makes you then.
Bruce Lee was an amazing athlete and very skilled. Let me be clear that Lee had the talent and determination to be top class but this style of fighting has not lived up to the hype since international mixed martial arts (the closest thing to highly competitive real fighting) has become popular since the mid 90s. Wrestling, boxing, muay thai, and brazillian jujitsu are ones that had real impact. I don't doubt for a second that Lee could retrain and compete and be elite.
@wikichris - Lee never wanted, nor aspired, to be a sport athlete. He trained in life and death combat methods. MMA is Nothing like real combat. Not even close. If lee were to be jumped by any of todays mma guys on the street, they would be lucky to be put into the hospital - rather than the morgue. Sport to lee was too limiting and useless. He instead, focused on the True meaning of the arts: Self Preservation. Not useless Ego bolstering, and cheesy trophies/belts.
@wikichris The only person to ever receive a partial strength side kick from him without padding was quoted saying when he got up he thought Bruce had shattered his rib cage. Bruce Lee was no joke, and I'd even argue he's in better condition as both a fighter and an athlete than anything UFC/K1 has to offer.
Yo, can anybody get that vid where it shows Bruce Lee striking a punching bag 3 times in one and a half second? I wanna show some ignorant punks that he really could do it!
Grand Master Bruce. You demonstrate the most basic foundation (the root) of short-distance contact from hands. We can learn from this at the very beginning and gradually analyze step by step of next logic movement. Finally, derived from the root, we can learn all the useful skills from SLT,ChumKiu,BiuTze and Wooden Dummy as it is in real fighting.
