You find Dogmeat in the scrapyard, in-between Bethesda Ruins and Minefield.

Dogmeat is perhaps one of the best companions in the game, he can find food, ammo, and even weapons, or drugs.

this actually happened to me once, except it was wiht 9000 mini nukes and a fully charged MIRV, I was wearing a T-51b suit and he just aimed it at the friggin town and fired, i just was like WTF this guy is insane! (fortunately for some reason he switched out to the Terrible Shotgun i gave him, (i dont like shotguns...) anyway, it was funny, but incredibly sad, and i flew for half an hour after he nuked me into the air... stupid ghoul...
