Both are fantastic cars....cant deny that the GT500 has more potential due to cubic inches, but again both great cars. I myself drive a 2010 GT500, I prefer the new styling and interior. The 03/04 Cobras have the same interior my 94 GT had and the same interior build quality....So I passed. The New GT500 just does it for me....and with a pulley and tune I am setting at 515-530 Rwhp...thats a $650 investment. Id say thats pretty darn good. Nice video

Just how do you know how many miles are on that car? It's plenty broken in, it dyno'd 540 RWHP - that's right in line with the power output of other GT500's with those modifications.

Yeah it's a Stage IV Stieg with a 2.8/4lb lower, heh. I really don't know what the RWHP was - the dyno the day before this race was 477 RWHP. My rings were shot, had the engine rebuilt recently, and the moly coating was knocked off of most all of the rings, that's why I was getting such bad leakdown #'s, however it still seemed to run ok, but could have made quite a bit more power had that not been the case. New engine should be in soon, going with -11cc pistons to bump compression a bit.

no way the terminator was only 500hp, unless the gt500 was less than the stated 540hp. Weight is too close in both cars too make that much of a difference. Gear ratio can make a diff, but race seemed too lopsided for gears to make that much of a diff. They sound bad ass.
That's a pretty big difference. The GT500 also had 19 or 20" wheels. The driver/passenger of the GT500 were ~210 lbs. I'm ~145 (watch out! lol)passenger is ~160. So we did have a bit of a weight advantage.

The GT500 has alot of power....just poor areodynamic and it's a freaking cow on the scales....If they would take 400 pound off it and put better gears in it...The GT500 would be tought to beat on the streets.
thats what ford did with the gt-500, just put a high output motor on a heavy body like in the 60's and 70's muscle cars. The Ford GT is the super sports car. I dont think it would sell if its little brother would smoke it. Its all about the money.
I think the only downfall of the new GT500 is the aerodynamics. The front end is angled forward slightly and the air dams really sort of stuff things up... It helps on the handling side, but as far as flat-out racing goes, its really not much help.
But the GT500 looks mean enough that wind resistance REALLY doesn't matter :P

no way the terminator was only 500hp, unless the gt500 was less than the stated 540hp. Weight is too close in both cars too make that much of a difference. Gear ratio can make a diff, but race seemed too lopsided for gears to make that much of a diff. They sound bad ass.

Well - the GT500 is 3920, my Cobra is 3630.
That's a pretty big difference. The GT500 also had 19 or 20" wheels. The driver/passenger of the GT500 were ~210 lbs. I'm ~145 (watch out! lol)passenger is ~160. So we did have a bit of a weight advantage.

thats what ford did with the gt-500, just put a high output motor on a heavy body like in the 60's and 70's muscle cars. The Ford GT is the super sports car. I dont think it would sell if its little brother would smoke it. Its all about the money.

I think the only downfall of the new GT500 is the aerodynamics. The front end is angled forward slightly and the air dams really sort of stuff things up... It helps on the handling side, but as far as flat-out racing goes, its really not much help.
But the GT500 looks mean enough that wind resistance REALLY doesn't matter :P
