just beat this game. incredible music, and a great game too. Closest we've gotten to a rocketeer game. I wish they would have fleshed out the bad guys a little more though. This really deserves to be made into a movie with this amazing score.
I dont know why, but I always got a Titan AE feelng when I played this game. But I love it! One of my top five favorite games. And I dont care what most people say, cause the graphics were pretty nice. I felt like I was watching a cartoon movie witht the same kind of format as Titan AE or Atlantis. Overall, very underrated game
@TheTrollMage I never said Zimmer was bad. I must have failed to express myself correctly there. Zimmer is great, truly one of the best composers of all time, and I'm a great, great fan of his work, but you can't deny that recently he has started to recycle themes and motifs from previous work, which, compared to his early works (pre-Gladiator) are less than impressive.
@retardedcombine001 The problem, I think was ultimately one of corporate managment. The game feels half-done, as if there was so much that was being foreshadowed earlier in the game, like when Atem gives Will the helmet and tells him "Not to let it consume him" but this never comes to anything.
The prevailing theory, is that the developers had a huge epic story to tell, but were forced to stop halfway to get the game out for a corporately set release date.
@josh1422 Well it depends on what kind of music you like really, but I think Bear's music is just as good if not better than Hans Zimmer's. Why? variety! Hans Zimmer uses the same orchestral crescendo style in most of his music, just listen to Zimmer's 'Chevaliers of Sangreal' and 'Time' from Inception, you'll get what I mean.
Bear's music on the other hand is much more varied, and he tends to use more exotic instruments, I recommend you listen to his soundtracks for BSG and Terminator: TSCC.
@ChristianDavidNewton That said, you can more or less recognise Bear's style pretty quick. Many times while playing this game, I heard a lot of familiar strains and instriments from his work on BSG
@ChristianDavidNewton You need to look at Zimmer's career over all the years for his expansive and varied repetoire and you'll really see he does have variety. The only people that seem to not thinkso are people that only look at the last few years of movies that directors give him. McCeary mainly works in the sci-fi genre, which does use some exotic or unfamiliar sounds, but that doesn't mean a wide variety, because he is still within certain genres. Your comparison is ignorant and uneducated.
Really? I've always thought Zimmer was awfully formulaic in his work. Gladiator was really his only score that was truly exceptional. Everything else has been "meh...it does what it's supposed to do, I guess." McCreary's work on BSG and Human Target, on the other hand, is well above and beyond that.
oh that was a bad mistake. I just stopped listening to the Inception soundtrack and listened to this and wow this is not even in the same league as that genius soundtrack. This is okay but yeah
@josh1422 I'll have to admit, Hans Zimmer is great, and his work in inception was awesome. But don't write off Bear McCreary so easily. Listen to some of his work from the Battlestar Galactica Soundtrack. I promise, you won't be sorry. A lot of it is here on youtube, and this one is a favorite of mine: /watch?v=4EQXEIoZrZE.
There's more epic sounding stuff, but this is what I was listening to lately.
This game has such a cool, Star-Warsy spark to it at it's core - a tiny one, mind you - that just goes to show that if the developers make a sequel (and this time make it PROPERLY without leaving most of it unfinished) then they could have a huge hit on their hands. This thing has SO MUCH potential.
At 1:18 secs, I swear I can hear the CYLON swoosh, that sound that happens when the Centurions or Raiders eye moves back and forth.
Great score, but the game is meh. Playing the demo it felt like that level in Halo 2, when you play as the Arbitor and you pilot the Banshee and defend the Scarab piloted by Johnson. Not much to it. But great music, I gotta get the soundtrack.
@LegoIndiana Much like Data East's criminally overlooked "The Cliffhanger: Edward Randy" arcade that combines the style of The Last Crusade with dieselpunk machinery and vehicles. It may look like an Indiana Jones ripoff (or perhaps tribute), but it's more fun than the Indiana Jones games that predate it. It was also one of the games Treasure's employee HAN added to his favorites, and made some tributes to it in Treasure's Gunstar Heroes and Guardian Heroes.
thats a disgusting way of putting it. dont compare his works like that. His work is on its own by far. Man freakin loves those drums. I love them also in his works for BSG
Yeah Mech, compared to his other work, such as Terminator SCC, the music I heard on the Dark Void demo sounds closer to his style on BSG, as soon as you start the level, it sounds like Cylons are about to attack, even the Jetpack makes a familiar sound.
Best 5€ I've ever spend.

If you guys like Bear McCreary's themes go checkout the "SOCOM 4 Theme" on youtube. It's more greatness.

@weldonwin Agreed. That's most likely due to him always using the same musicians.

Yeah, you can tell this is by Bear McCreary. Only the composer of Battlestar Galactica would use so many drums.

And I have to say it's pretty darn good, although not quite as orgasmic as the Battlestar Galactica soundtrack. :)
