in my opinion there all absolutely fine. well im a collector and i just ordered the tricorder. i like it. it has a lot of sounds and i think playmates has done a fine job

i have the phaser and the communicator, but the tricorder didn't look too good. the phaser is worth its money though, its so cool!

These toys are terrible. Every-Single-One! The Chrome on the phaser isn't movie accurate and it can give away your position easily due to the shiny-ness of the Chrome. I hate the tricorder. Look at the medical tricorder or the TNG tricorder from older series' and tell me this one is better. because if you say this one is better then you are mildly retarded. The communicator really does look like a power ranger toy. Damn these really dissapointed me. i have all three and I want to sell them.

the comunicator is the only one that does not disgust me, the phaser is crap, and the tricoder make no sense with ANY of the series, thanks JJA for ruining the Star Trek franchise!

i am glad the tricorder was smaller. i never liked the bigger one form the original show. the phaser looks similar to the one on enterprise.

I disagree regarding the tricorder. The original looked a little more functional, even if it was a very '60s design. There's no screen and no compartment to hold a hand scanner like the original. This one is also smaller than the 24th century equivalent -- so much for progress! :P

The round front of the phaser looks a bit similar to the phase pistol, but that's where the similarities end IMO.

I just bought all 3 at toysrus yesterday 4-20-09 $15.99 each. glade I didn't pay $100 on e-bay......lol

or $30 each on e-bay.

they had it all at the store. I didn't buy the ship because I have no room for it....lol

the blue sound on the phaser I thought was broke till now....lol

the rest is ok stuff for $16.

I've seen your collection before and it's very impressive. I am a bit surprised that you purchased this line though. As a fellow collector myself I couldn't bare to purchase any of these role playing toys. I just thought that their quality wasn't there this time around and not worth my money.

These are junk but I had some room in back of one of my self's so you can't see it unless you know where to look....lol

I didn't bother to put top of the line battery in so what it has is it..

I am not into the figures that much . I would have more ships if I had the room.

I did just buy another red trigger coyle so now I got 2 of them.

I at least had to see what these 3 did. the tricorder I would say is the best if I had to choose 1.

I bet $300 a hand on black Jack so $50 is nothing to me.

I can't speak for the look since I can't see it, but the sounds don't sound good at all. At least the Enterprise sounds loud and has some semblance of fidelity to it, whereas these toys sound as bad as the ones from the late '80's or early 90's. I'm sticking to the ships, as that is where my interests lie anyway.

I have to agree with you. The sound effects in the Phaser and Tricorder are absolutely horrible. The only thing that saves the communicator is the prerecorded messages.

And regarding this new Enterprise...It's smaller than the ones produced in the 1990's. And it has prerecorded messages in it, too. Which I personally don't care for. I just like the sound effects like the phasers, torpedoes, warp drive engaging, tractor beam, and or impulse drive sounds.

Here in Rhode Island USA I saw them Tuesday April 14th at my local Toys R Us and Walmart stores. But the Walmart didn't have the 12" Command series nor the role playing toys, out yet.

In my opinion, these toys are crap. Poorly designed from Paramount and poorly constructed from Playmates. I'm very disappointed in Playmates

I agree, very poor design and construction.

This sort of stuff is what I expect to see hanging on walls at dollar stores. Even some cheap water guns I've seen are more inspired in look than that phaser.

Thankfully Diamond Select Toys is out there making far superior options for us.

Thanks for posting these. Now for my opinion. First off let me say that the overall design of all 3, right from Paramount, are just BAD. Why did they make the Phaser resemble the phaser from the TV show Enterprise and not more like the Classic Trek phaser?. Why would you make them chrome colored? The Tricorder is to small and there's no display screen {that I can see}. The Comm.: why did they put it in a carrying case? Wouldn't just fall out while running or from a fall? Why not velcro?

I saw these in the store and I was amazed on how Playmates did such a crappy job on them. That's why I didn't even consider buying these. I know they had bad designs from the beginning, but the Chromed Plastic look really makes these look like those cheap "after market" toys you see on sale for a buck.

I have most of the 1990s Playmates action figures, ships, and role playing toys and this line doesn't even come close. You think Playmates would have done a better job NOT WORSE.

No, the phaser looks cheap because IT IS CHEAP. That cheap looking plastic chrome is horrible. But it was a crappy design from Paramount to begin with.

Playmates has made Phasers, in the past, that are black and gray in color.

I disagree about the new phaser design. The one in the movie isn't chrome, it's a more matte gunmetal-grey, fortunately. The red and blue tips are still a bit cheesy, but not as bright as this toy either.

I think I'll buy two of these toys -- one to keep in packaging, the other to airbrush to make the colour more accurate to the movie.
