  • This looks like a fun piece to play...waitaminute...I think I own that same dulcimer!

Perchance is that an applecreek cherrywood hourglass dulcimer with f-note soundholes?

    Also awesome looking autoharp.

  • Thank you ^^

    no it's a celtic-star dulcimer from Germany

  • great !! brother.....:)

  • mulţumesc! darius

  • Hi, Ben. "Shady Grove" lends itself to almost any instrument or combination of, but I've always thought it's best played on and/or sang to the accompaniment of either the dulcimer or autoharp. Your rendition was truly wonderful.

    Mattie

  • I think the dulcimer is the perfect instrument for this song ^^

    thanks mattie ^^

  • excellent!!!! Brilliant!!!! Ben, you are from another time altogether~

    Amy

  • from another time? thanks ^^

  • Thanks Ben for sending this to me. It was really good but of course I have never heard it before. I really like the Dulcimer. Good job. 5 *****.

    Darlene

  • Thanks, I'm glad you like it, Darlene. There's more coming up ^^

  • Really Good! Is that instrument hard to play?

  • that depends on what you want to do. Strumming like this isn't that hard, but there are also complicated fingering styles ^^

  • Very Nice. I have always love the way a Dulcimer sounds and have wanted to learn to play one but never have gotten around to it. Thanks for the great share.

    Peace,

    Allen

  • thanks for the nice share Allen.

  • Lovely, as always!

    Bravo, Ben. :)

  • Grazie Valerio ^^

    I'm glad you like it

  • WOW... that was really GOOD!!! I can certainly hear a strong Jean Ritchie influence there, but still done in your own style and very nicely done at that.

I love how you use a noter in the left hand... to me, it always give the dulcimer its unique sound when the noter is chosen over fingering. Very nice job with right hand rhythms and counter-melodies against singing... I really enjoyed that!!!

  • Thank you Peggy ....

The other influence on my dulcimer playing besides Jean Ritchie is Richard Farina, but I'm far away from that level ^^

    I'm glad you enjoyed it.

  • I don't think you can get any better than by focusing on Ritchie... She's just the total essence of dulcimer attitude!

  • yeah I guess you're right. Jean is THE dulcimer player. Richard Farina is good too though ^^ But he also learned from Jean I think ....

  • Very nice.
