@chamalani He is exceptionally protective and has to always be near me or touching me or on me. All he does outdoors is stand and look around next to me like you would think he's guarding us both. Even my little 6 month old female Coastal Carpet Python has already started displaying this same protective and defensive behavior standing up and looking around. She loves to curl up in my lap and stands there which is shown in my new video.
@chamalani I tried to send you a message with a couple of my video links said you have contact lock on and can't send to you unless you add me as a contact. Many snake species are becoming endangered in the wild and the only way to guarantee their species survival is to keep them in captivity and breed them so they can reproduce. Humans don't have any issues with killing snakes they find in the wild and using them as a trophy.
@MegaRedtailboa Thank You !!! Chewy, the one in this video is now three years old and ten feet long and I'm raising a female Coastal Carpet that is six months old and two feet long. Sure will be glad when she starts to show some weight instead of length but that's just how they grow.
@liamb561 Thank you sincerely :O) Chewy is a total sweetheart and never has a bad day nor never displays anything other than being a friendly, sociable animal. He wins the hearts of everyone that has met him and he's an awesome companion. He's a very active and alert and curious snake and loves being out and spending time with people.
@MrJazzMan88 Chewy is in a 55 gallon tall tank only because I like to give my snakes plenty of room to thermo-regulate their temps. He's 10 feet and doesn't require this much space but just my own personal preference. I will send you a link in a message :O)
You know how snakes are about their home, u smell like home to them since by what you say they seem to spend as much time around the house as in their encloser :) do you have any vid of him following you across the yard? that would be awsome
@chizoioioi They are outdoors all spring and summer early and late in the day when the sun isn't as hot for them. They will follow me around the yard and I've proved this to people that have come to visit me. I will try to get that on video this spring but I have many up that show how they have to always be by my side or touching me outdoors.
I have a juvinile coastal carpet python and she loves to be out of her cage and explore around the house! I have a video of her eating and striking so check it out!
@RollerCoasterAnimal I sure will and thanks for letting me know about it. My Coastal Carpet juvenile loves being out as well as my 3 year old that's in this video. I don't know why people discourage others from handling their snakes because once they get used to it they really strive to be sociable.
@314bigrich Thank you tons !!! but the pictures really don't do Chewy a great justice :O) All of my video clips and still pictures have been done with my cell phone camera so for a cell phone they came out pretty good.
@Craigarsenal14 Thank you for the nice comment :O) I'm SO hooked on Carpet Pythons they are just the most incredible snakes and very social animals. My 3 year old has never taken a strike at anyone and has the most amazing temperament !!
I open the door for 5 mins if they want to come out, they know the deal. They are never forcefully taken out. Their allowed out for 4-5hrs if they want. During winter only. & bask in the sun..Summer for me is called poo cleaning season. They dont want to come out and it can take 5 mins to convince its not dinner time. I clean and change water only and let them digest over this period. It can take up to half hr to convince a taipan its not dinner time as i do not want to get hit ever again :)
@HunterReptileRooms My huge 11 foot hundred pound Boa Constrictor Occidentalis will stay in their enclosure if they have a choice. I can leave their door open all day and they will extend outside the door to look around but normally have to be forced to come out of their enclosure. Of the venomous species I love the Boomslangs but there are few in captivity and I've always wanted a Gabby :O) I stick with large constrictors however. Taipan's are like bullets !!! Fast as lightning LOL
@1softkiss WOW! I thought my coastal Fluffy was a big boy at 17kgs his largest. Spose he is. But a 45kg Boa is something very cool. You probably know we can't get exotics here to keep our country from ferals. It would be nice to own a retic though.. Yeah, I have some other nice stuff, especially the Taipans, But since most of my subcribers are young and impressionable, I try to stay away as not to add influence to this type of keeping :)
@HunterReptileRooms I hear ya on that one. Can't count the newer ones in the hobby that want to buy an Argentine Boa when my female produces and definitely a snake for an experienced keeper. Nothing like common boas by no means.
@Feosnake The size depends greatly on their locale but Jungle Carpets can also get the size of a Coastal, but usually they remain somewhat smaller. Coastals arr known as the larger of the Morelia species. Chewy is 10 feet long so he lives in a 55 gallon tank with a perch the full length of the tank. Carpets are semi-arboreals and it's more natural for them to eat from a perch than on the ground and they prefer to be up high most of the time. I will send you a link to Chewy's enclosure :O)
@Feosnake You're fine with asking questions :O) I have a LOT more respect for people that want to know about the snake than assuming they know and making a wrong choice and later on deciding they don't want the snake anymore or it's too big for them to handle.
@Feosnake A common size for a Coastal on the big end would be around eleven feet but they can get larger. I've not personally heard of any much over eleven feet though. I'm sure there are exceptions but for their length they are VERY easy to handle and work with. I'm only 5' 9" and weigh 130 pounds and have no issues handling Chewy.
My newest snake is my first carpet. Indica is a Hypo Jungle Jag. within the last few months we've been able to get able to get her out of her biting phase (she bit me every chance she got) but this video is comforting. i have boas that explore a lot but will push their way back to me if a stanger comes too close. i like to think it's a personal bond even though people insist snakes don't have that. I feel they do. I'm not sure what it is but i hope my carpet turns out like yours
@tabbyoum Seriously trust me !!!!! Snakes bond to a point of getting VERY protective of their handler. I don't have one snake in my house that DOESN'T show EVERY indication that there is a dependency on their handler. If I have one Ball Python out on my lap the other one can't be out because the one on my lap will go after the one that approaches me. Together away from me they are fine. Chewy ALWAYS has to be close to me or touching me and if someone walks up to me he will go after them.
@tabbyoum My huge Argentine Boas are just as bad. I had the top level cage door open one day and didn't know my niece brought a guy in with her and my male struck over my left shoulder at the new person that had walked up behind me and literally spooked the crap out of me had I not snatched his neck he would have gone after the guy. It's by NO means your imagination but it takes constant handling and bonding or they will lose the bond somewhat and revert back to being somewhat defensive.
@tabbyoum Chewy struck at anything that moved ANYWHERE near his enclosure for about three months and now I'm raising my new female Coastal Carpet Python and I've had her three months and I can pick her up but first when I reach in she is ready to strike until I touch her head and nobody can reach for her or she will strike them. I think most all young adults are very defensive until they learn to trust and bond with their handler. Thank you for the compliment on Chewy :O)
I think It's because they are comofrtable with you and associate you with feeding, cleaning, and handling them and they feel secure with you. I don't think they are protecting you for the simple fact that I dont think snakes can think like that. They have a animal instinct to protect their eggs but I think thats as far as it goes.
@HardCorpsReptiles They feel secure close to me or touching me and won't leave the area I'm in outdoors. I think it's a part of the trust/bond development between us. I have had my snakes strike at people that walked up to me when I had them outdoors on my lap though and freaked me right out. I think with constant work and handling they come to perceive their handler as a natural part of their domain and everyday environment. Thank you for the comment and the input :O)
@PurpleViper3 I know it's really sad :O( Snakes are wonderful companions and pets and actually less trouble than a dog is. Dogs hurt many more people daily than snakes ever did. Thank you for the cool comment !!
@skyyame LOL OH, YEAH !!!! 3 months of striking at everything that moved past his enclosure. He was always out on a branch in my hands on my bed and would swoop down and snatch the fur out of the top of my cats head between her ears just to let her know he was there. When he struck I reached in and picked him up til he realized his striking wasn't threatening to me and he stopped.
@1softkiss mine is a still a baby but he is a nightmare in the cage. I use a hook and once he's out he'l calm down to the point where he's completely tame in a couple minutes. Place him back in the enclosure and he's right back into strike mode, ugh
@skyyame Babies are naturally defensive and even many adults remain cage defensive because they become used to their immediate environment inside the enclosure and consider intruders predators. Try letting the snake crawl onto a branch and bring the snake out while it's on the branch. That's how I broke Chewy and working with my new baby coastal with the branch now.
@skyyame If you allow a snake to come out on their own you are less likely to be perceived as a threat to them. I'm sending you a message with some links that will probably help you :O)
@Ultimategrid The last time he had a vet visit over a year ago he weighed in at 23 pounds not sure what his weight is currently because the only time my snakes get weighed and measured is when they see their vet for their yearly exam. Carpet Pythons are amazing and they love to bond with their handler even to the point of being possessive and VERY protective.
They actually bond with their handler? I did not realize this, I thought that was beyond most snakes mental capacities. My old retic Strangles used to follow me around the house whenever I let her roam, but I didn't think Carpets actually bond with people. It's very interesting.
I can't wait for my little boy to grow up, how long did it take for Chewy to get to full size?
@Ultimategrid Check out some more of my videos. the one back at ya hsus shows Chewy being protective and defensive outdoors. I have lots of videos of my snakes being handled and bonding with myself and my friends. Carpets are very alert and they do associate with their handler on all terms. Chewy is 3 years old this month actually. At 1 year of age he was quite long but really didn't get as thick as he is until he reached about two years of age. Snakes are creatures of habit thus bonding is.
@Ultimategrid Snakes have a thought process and actually Retics are the most intelligent of all snakes. Snakes are resourceful and very alert to their surroundings and they recognize people and their immediate environment. With handling there's no reason they wouldn't become familiar and become protective and bond. If snakes don't have a mental capacity how can they be hook trained and how do they know where the door is to an enclosure and how to push it open? :O)
Wow that's incredible, a documentary needs to be made on reptilian intelligence. It would be helpful especially considering that half the world thinks snakes are monsters that need to be destroyed.
And now that you mention it, I remember my girl Strangles opening a door once or twice. It could have been by accident, but you never know right?
@Ultimategrid If you work with snakes for many years and handle them you most definitely can see a thought process and form of calculating and reasoning. You will always have those people that refuse to believe snakes have any sense of knowing or caring because it's easier for people to believe what they want to than to see proof otherwise.
@Ultimategrid I don't think it's a case of more intelligent but pythons and boas seem to be calmer and more laid back than most Colubrids. Some pythons however are very hyperactive especially the reticulated pythons and they have proven to be among the most intelligent of all captive bred snake species. Colubrids are very high strung and exceptionally more active thus it appears their interest levels are more limited because of their inability to calm down as much.
@1softkiss I'm wondering if you have sources to back up your comment "reticulated pythons...have proven to be among the most intelligent of all captive bred snake species".
I keep a couple retics myself, as well as some other boid species, and I have noticed how retics seem more alert and inquisitive than other snakes and have seen other retic owners mention this too, but..... that does not qualify as being "proven" by any means.
I'm just wondering if you know about some studies that I don't?
@1softkiss And yeah, I know they have larger brains than other species, but that does not necessarily equate to higher intelligence. After all, they are among the largest of snakes, so the brain is actually quite normal sized in relation to their huge bodies- a significant portion of which being used for motor control and coordination.
@Ultimategrid I would have to add it depends highly on each snakes individual temperament and personality. Their living conditions and their social life interacting with people has a lot to do with their heightened interest and capability to respond to certain stimuli.
@mosesanderson7 if you make eye contact with a snake you can definitely tell there is a thinking process going on regardless that we aren't positive about what their thought capacity is. Many people say they are dumb and stupid animals an if that was the case snakes couldn't be hook trained and they also wouldn't bother to distinguish their handler from other people. They are amazing creatures and a ton more research needs to be done. They have found that snakes can hear in stereo now. :O)
@mosesanderson7 I've found that snakes always keep us nervy and edgy even though we've worked with them for many years. The reason being we know how fast they can react and how fast they can strike at something and their body can stay in one place and they can extend for several feet to strike something. Every time one of mine strikes it's food I jump, It's a normal reaction to be jumpy with snakes. In a way that's a good thing because it keeps us alert all of the time.
@mxboardguitarsnake5 There are MANY of us that agree with you. Even though people consider them dumb and ignorant animals that say they have no emotional attachment to any humans. I've seen too many indications that there is a strong bond between a snake and it's handler.
Im gonna get a carpet python in a cpl weeks on the expo. i really want a nice black and yellow JCP but if they dont have any i wouldnt think twice about getting a ccp
@Lolzorpantz That's great to hear ;O) I'm getting a female from Brian from BHB Reptiles sometime this month to raise to breed with Chewy. I love all snakes but I've come to really love the Carpet Pythons a ton. They are so curious and active and really appear to be great thinkers and rather smart. Keep me up to date on what you get please?
@1softkiss Nice, ive watched like evry single episode brians got , so you know its nice snakes :). im aiming for a carpet but if im able to get a leopard gecko aswell it wud be awesome :)
@Lolzorpantz My carpet python came from Brian (Chewy) and he's sending me a female juvenile sometime over the next couple of weeks to raise to breed with Chewy. And yes, my carpet is named after doctor chewy from BHB reptiles :O) I'm in love with the species just totally magnificent snakes.
@1softkiss Couldn't agree with you more. i was watching a snakebytes episode where they bred a Carpet with a ball python, looked really sweet (might be a future project)
@Lolzorpantz would be a great project for sure if it took. don't really know that much about cross breeding though. If anyone knows what he's doing Brian definitely does.
@Lolzorpantz That's totally AWESOME :O) Great choice and sure you're going to enjoy every minute with raising them. We're waiting for Hurricane Irene to hit New York tonight and tomorrow so I may not be online for a few days hopefully we don't have trees taking down power lines and lose all power. I will be looking forward to seeing your new babies in a video :O)
@1softkiss I see you are talking about hybrid snakes. These forums are really helpful and you won't get any hate from purists. You will also get the facts and not the hate driven myths on hybrids. :o)
@ColubridCreationsTV I'm a die hard "NORMAL' genetics lover and supporter. Hardcore !!! Love the new designer morphs but not my thing because I don't have any interest in cross breeding, myself but have seen some beauties. Love the Burm-Ball
@nickyboy22071989 Very True !!! I've seen many indications that they go beyond that also to a point of being protective and defensive for their handler.
@1softkiss They have a sort of neophobia, it depends how your friends act around them I have 2 girls and one 4m long Morelia amethistina (look it up if you don't know what they are, they're beautiful snakes) and my little morelia bredli millie has the most beautiful and inquisitive nature she snuggles around my necklace when I put her on my neck and will even stay still on my bed next to me, you seem to have a magnificent connection to your snakes though it's beautiful to see :)
@nickyboy22071989 Morelia are VERY aware and intelligent snakes !!! I did a years research on the species before I decided I wanted to raise and breed Coastals because I love the larger snakes. Thank you for the compliment I appreciate it a lot !!! I can read each of my snakes and know their every move and for the most part can sense what they are thinking. ;O)
@nickyboy22071989 Chewy is twice the size he was in this video and is massive, pure muscle. He eats 3 jumbo frozen thawed rats each month. Quite the food hound LOL He's so picky I take him outdoors when he starts pacing to excrete waste. He gets all freaky if he has to poop in his enclosure. ROFL
@1softkiss At some point they'll stop growing and just develope a lot of muscle, millie is just starting to get onto young rats now but my amythestine eats two chickens each month hahaha he can eat bigger food but he doesn't need to :)
@metallicatimms Snakes know their handler and I've noticed with all of my snakes each one has their favorite people they are more comfortable with ;O) They learn to feel safe and secure with their handler.
Carla, you have said in a few of Chewy's videos your going to be getting him a women! If you do and breed them can you put my name on the list for a baby Carpet? I would love to have one of Chewy's babys........ he is a good boy and will make lovely babys :O)
@Karmacode2012 I most definitely will !!! You have a great bond, love and passion for snakes and those are the ONLY people that will get any offspring from any of my snakes. I just came in had Chewy outdoors for over two hours but I felt the sun was too warm for him but will make a video later :O) I have a friend that lives only an hour away from me that has baby Coastal Carpet eggs in his incubator WHOOT !!! I've spoken for one of his females.
@1softkiss ALRIGHT!!!! Thats so cool, Carla! How long before you will get your new baby? Carla's going to be a new mommy! YEAH! I would like a female myself. I already have a name picked out for a female........ Im going to call her Eve :O)
@Karmacode2012 The eggs are in the incubator have been for about three weeks or so so will probably be within the next few months. Not long I'm sure and the dame and sire are gorgeous snakes.
I truly believe that our snakes do form a bond with us when we take the time to handle them and spend time with then. It is obvious that you and Chewy have a beautiful bond with one another. People truly underestimate snakes and their intelligence. I find snakes to be very inquisitive and curious about their handlers and surroundings.
@cstoudt1973 You are SO correct in your perception of how alert and curious snakes really are. They aren't invasive creatures by no means and usually prefer to avoid humans unless they are used to the bond and trust their handler and are spoiled babies like all of mine are. Sometimes we make bad judgment calls and get a bite but it's not personal toward us they are just doing what nature has taught them to do to protect themselves. I'm like this with all of my snakes cause I love them all ;O)
Oh okay, wow lucky i took it off her! She loved that thing more than her food!! In the winter I will allow her to have a heat mat as it gets a bit cold, but I really like the idea of her adapting to natural heat like your snakes and your friends boas. She isnt enjoying it at the moment, but i am sure she will come around :)
@MrSahara93 The new video I'm working on shows the alternative way to heat a snakes enclosure that is totally safe and effective. I should have the video up tonight. What kind of top do you have on the snakes enclosure?
Thank you so much, you've been a great help.. and i have moved her closer to the window, and taken her heat rock away.. in time i think she will be less dependent on staying warm 24/7.. haha Dr Chewy is similar to my marge.. if i figure out how to use this properly I will send you a pic of her :) thank you again.. your a great inspiration :)
@MrSahara93 You're Very Welcome !!! Heat rocks are very bad for snakes because snakes don't sense that being too hot is bad for them and many heat rocks have burned snakes. Unfortunately, if they are comfortable, regardless if whether it's dangerous for them, they will stay in that spot. Actually I've talked to two of the biggest and best established Boa breeders in the USA and one expressed the fact that he NEVER uses artificial lighting for any of his snakes and does use heat mats.
Thank you, and like wise, Chewy is a great name! I will take your advise and take her out whenever I have the chance whilst home.. I live in an apartment, so I worry for pestisides and other unnatural substances in the local park.. do you think the freedom of a balcony is enough to keep her happy untill I have my own backyard? Thank you so much for your insite, your a great asset to the serpent community :)
@MrSahara93 Thank you and you're VERY welcome. I've found that daylight and sunlight helps snakes a ton. You can't beat natural UV rays for any snake so all of my enclosures are set up close to windows. At least they can see movement and they aren't blind so they can see outside a window. It gives them a sense of being and belonging and enhances their senses to be close to natural light and the environment is visible to them outside their enclosure. Chewy is named after Doctor Chewy :O)
Your an AMAZING owner, I really respect the way you love and care for your snakes, and I now understand why they are so relient on their wonderful owner. Your feeding "schedule" sounds exactly the same as mine, I go by is Marge look hungry or not, I aloso wait for her to pass the previous meal and thin right out before feeding her again.. to which she eats doves, ducks, mice, rats... anything she can fit really, she is quiet amazing.
@MrSahara93 I think there are way too many people that aren't personable enough with their snakes and then they wonder why their snakes perceive them as a predator instead. They are living beings and aren't dumb or oblivious to their environment. If a snake can sense nervousness and fears in a person that approaches them I'm sure they can sense love, caring, respect and dedication from their handler ;O) Humans eat when they are hungry snakes are the same way. Thank You For The Kind Words.!!!
I was curious as to how often you handle your snakes... We take my girl out of the enclosure quite often, but she seems to just want to find somewhere warm to hide... which leads to my other question, you said you rarely have them in their enclosures... Also if its not any trouble could you outline how you go about a typical week with your carpet ie handleing, feeding and where you let him roam?? Thnx -S.
@MrSahara93 My carpet python and my ball pythons will curl up on my knee during the day with my legs crossed and watch the movement on my tv for hours on end. First thing in the morning I grab a cup of coffee, go over and take my carpets top off and he comes up across my shoulder and around my waist all by himself to come out. Chewy is on me every morning with my first few cups of coffee. Chewy hangs out around my neck while I'm doing housework actually and across my lower back.
@MrSahara93 Chewy is out almost every morning and in warm weather he's outdoors 3 times a week as well as my ball pythons go out as often. The ball pythons come out evenings and late night sometimes chewy hangs out with me while i watch t.v. I confine my snakes to an area close to me so I can keep them from wiping out everything on my shelves. most times they just want to be on me though. My coastal has a huge meal in october so doesn't eat in the winter til april each year since he was one.
@MrSahara93 Chewy has been on extra large and jumbo rats since he was almost two years old. He usually eats two or three a month. I don't feed any of my snakes until they have excreted their previous meal to be sure they don't have any digestive problems and to prevent them from getting bound up. I read body language to feed all my snakes and they are never on a regular schedule.
HEY CARPET SNAKE GIRL! I also have a coastal carpet python (Margery) who i adore to no ends! She is around 8 months old and I have had her for 7months. It moved me to hear how intouch with your snakes you are, and that they depend on you to feel secure out in the open. They are at one with you, and the way he is standing in the air just looking out and protecting you is astounding! You are a true snake ladie lol.
@MrSahara93 I don't know why anyone would have a defensive Carpet Python unless it's never handled. They are so amazing and very protective. Actually I'm working on a new video of Chewy tonight showing how calm he is. Congratulations on a great choice :O) Also love the name of your Carpet Python !! Thank you so much. I've seen some people that snakes just love to strike at and others that have a natural bond with them. They really can read people !!
that is so awesome, i believe being kind to an animal and letting it get used to you as a person reflects the persons personality. cool shit, i just got a little baby pastel ball python(:
@massblunts420 Thank you :O) Congratulations on the new baby Ball Python !!! I've always enjoyed raising them myself and I adore my two adults. That's VERY true because if animals live in a stressful environment it has everything to do with the way they act temperament wise to everything around them. People so easily forget that snakes depend on instinct and their sense of feel (vibration) and smell to survive on a daily basis. Snakes can sense the type of person someone is I've seen it.
@11snakefish Thank You :O) They do all have their own personalities and temperaments just as we all do. Carpets are just totally awesome to raise and work with!!!
This is definetly true with my carpet pythons. When i first bring a new one i let them settle in, then after a few days i take them out to handle them usually they are fine with me, but if someone else tries to touch them.... Well lets say its bad news;)
@11snakefish Chewy has well adapted to being held but his preference is the female gender. This is probably due to the fact that I hold him and handle him constantly and he is VERY reluctant to go to a male. They do indeed bond with their handler and the person that cares for them.
@TMSreptiles Every snake that I've owned has never shown any aggression toward me nor are defensive unless they just don't want to be bothered and that doesn't end with a bite from them. They are VERY misunderstood and I'm SO sick of all the lies and misconceptions about them. They do bond with their handler if they are handled daily like mine always are. You don't type too much check out my lengthy comments LOL I can talk about snakes forever and often do ;O)
@TMSreptiles Snakes are like people in as you can have ten snakes from the same clutch or litter and each one is an individual with different coloring, patterns and personality, and moods as well and they all respond differently to their environment. I don't know why the media wants to categorize them all as evil aggressive killers hell, look at all the lives humans take of their own species!!! Can say more for snakes and their social skills and values than most humans actually.
this reminds me alot of my relationship with my blue beauty snake but is the exact opposite of my relationship with korean rat snakes
the blue beauty always stays with me (though i cant really put him down cuz hes super fast ;P) while the female korean tries to run and the male sits and attacks
and although its not serious like a bite from an argentine boa but it sure is annoying
and its kinda scary because his strike range is about 1/2 of his wittle body
What a beautiful carpet:), Karla i believe snakes do get attached to mostly one person and will actually pertect that person like my boa he really only lets me carry him lol, ang great video like always
@snakeman9090 Thank you and I have to totally agree with you. What I see and have seen in each of my snakes is their natural sense of being protective and defensive of me. I would think it's just a coincidence with one snake but every one of mine do the same thing and stand by me or on me especially outdoors. It's really an indication that more research really needs to be done on their natural instincts and behavior. Thank you for the nice compliment and for watching :O)
@jxz107 Thank You!!!! He is really very cool and always on my lap or standing and looking around and it's very rare to see him on the ground outdoors. I sort of raised him on a branch that I held with him on it to eat his meals and for exercise since he was a tiny little guy so think that had a lot to do with his upper body strength.
The same thing happens with my colombian boa ^_^ He's ALWAYS gotta be on me or wrapped around my shoulders. I've had him since he was 6 weeks old, so I definitely know he has a bond with me. Btw, Chewy is SO adorable <33 I hope to have a carpet python one day :D
@xXHWSXx That's So totally cool to hear!!! I have the utmost respect for people that give their snakes some freedom and allow them to explore and most all snakes will bond that have this chance and opportunity :O) Carpet Pythons are so amazing and so different from Boas and most other pythons. A real learning experience and a wonderful one so hope someday you have the opportunity !!!
Great video, Chewy is looking beautiful and huge! I live in england so due to the weather I rarely get a chance to take my snakes outside, aren't you worried about yours getting mites or even getting ill?? Thanks :)
@BeneethTheSurface NO, not at all. I've done it for as many years as i've had snakes and the main thing that ups the odds of mites is using wood products for substrate and letting your snakes into tree and deep weeded areas. Each of my snakes gets a warm soak in their outdoor pool before they come back indoors so I can check them over and make sure they don't have any hitch hikers. I've NEVER had a mite problem with any of my snakes. :O) Thank you for the nice compliment on Chewy and the video!!
I think the animals feel secure around us. Chewy is outstanding. When I have let others handle some of my snakes they try to get back to me so I am sure they know us and trust us and also depend on us to keep them safe. 1000000000stars!
@cutegayjason Thank you Jason and I totally agree. I think the bond goes MUCH deeper when people handle their snakes a lot. Heck mine are closer to me and more dependent on me than any cat or dog has ever been that I've owned. You know, my snakes do the same thing when someone else has one of them they extend and try to find me and come back to me. I think they feel secure with us as well as somewhat protective. Thank you for watching and for your opinion and for the great rating ;O)
@hotvws3 Yeah, that's my Chewy :O) He's almost eight feet long now and sure is one healthy little guy LOL Thank you, Wayne I am glad to hear from you and thanks for watching his video :O) Going to my sons bands show tonight at Sylvan Beach so in the process of getting ready. Take Care, Sweety!!
While its not possible to know what someone else is thinking I believe its a matter of affection and security. I have snakes that share a tank and they are always found curled up together, not curled up separate or at opposite ends of the tank. I think they really do enjoy the companionship. If they are unsure they tend to group together, like a little kid hanging on his momma's skirt. I need to upload some pics of my little boys. :D
@maarakailet1 I really have to agree with you. I have found that all of mine are more at ease close to me and touching me and they will follow me out in the yard if I get up and walk away. I'm not sure if this is their way of defending us or because they just have become dependent on us for security. Hope you do put some pictures up of you snakes!!! I really enjoy looking at them all. Thank you for your input and sounds like we see things pretty much the same way. :O)
That is so cute! I love how he just stands their all in the air like that.. My girl just runs off when I take her outside.. >.> She never got much handling or outside time before I got her.. She is still a sweetie though.. :) Awesome video Carla! :-)
@rednecklivin08 Thank you :O) He is amazing I give him that!!! Can't get him off me for anything so he's real easy to keep up with. Almost acts like a bodyguard outdoors.Carpets are truly wonderful snakes to raise and for sure they love the attention and to be able to explore. They still remind me of an ADHD problem though. Most people say they have to chase their snakes around and heck, I can't get mine to leave me alone. LOL How old is your Carpet or was when you got her?
@1softkiss Oh no.. I dont have a carpet.. I have a Peruvian Long-Tailed Boa.. Im not quite sure of her age.. But she is 5 feet.. Im not sure you can guess their age due to their size.. Hopefully I can get some awesome videos like yours up with her.. :-)
Sweet Video Carla,I Think Snakes Feel Secured Around Us,The Way We Handle Them,Letting Them Roam Around,They Seem They Stick Around To The Owner,Just Like We Are There Parents,Not Like A Dog Or Cat,You Can't Make A Snake Fetch A Stick,,But A Rat..lol They Just Want To Feel Wanted,And We The Reptile Community Try Our Best,To Give A Good Home,And Care For Them As Much As We Can,THEY ARE FAMILY,Great Video Carla Thumbs Up High~
@gerijuana VERY well said Gerry and I would say the same thing word for word. I really don't think people that never spend much time handling their snakes would see this bond and closeness and dependency like we do that always have ours out. I really choose to believe they do appreciate our devotion, care, and attention and thus bond with us and depend on our closeness sometimes. Thank you VERY sincerely Gerry!!! We think so much alike when it comes to our babies. :O)
well it possible ive noticed when you keep a snake for along time youll make some kind of bond not like a dog and human but still u build a little bond.
@Hardcorecolubrids I would have to say with all I handle mine and all they are outdoors we have a very strong bond. Any loud sounds or vibration and they turn and run and try to hide by me or under me. LOL It concerns me though because God forbid anything happened to me I think the loss of that bond might cause them some stress and health related issues. Thank you for your comment and your input!!! I really appreciate it :O)
@CorbinAndDakotah Thank you and sometimes i really sense some sort of physical attachment to me as well as the trust bond we have together. I really think snakes are more aware of their surroundings than people give them credit for. Maybe one day soon I will do a blogtv show also. I'm just always so darn busy and so far behind. LOL Thank you for the wonderful compliment, I really try to give then good healthy lives in captivity. :O)
@Ratsnake151 Thank you !!! I sort of feel that is the issue because I've had a couple of my snakes (My Big Argentines) when out take a dead beat toward someone that approached me and even had my make strike at someone outside the enclosure door that was standing behind me. It's hard to really know and I think a lot more research really needs to be done on snakes and other reptiles.
@1softkiss Yes I think like a dog many you just need to introduce them to friends and take it outside the cage then slowly maby get there sent on you and itroduce them then you can maby move outside and if need be put some rope or somethieng around there moutn and just show that this person is a friend not an enamy or somethine it maby just a time project I really dont know but it will work out atleast you have something to protect you lol!!
@Ratsnake151 Good points!!!! They definitely do recognize our scent and our body temperature and can distinguish ours from a strangers. I think that's why so many snakes are cage aggressive because they spend so much time in there and seldom have any freedom outside in nature where it is natural to them, but they aren't aware of that unless they get to go out to get used to it. Snakes adapt to their environment for sure.
@ReidHarris7 Me too!!!! Chewy was my first and they are SO different from other snakes. Always looking and watching and observing everything. Totally full of energy and I love their body mechanics :O) Thank you for the nice compliment and actually Chewy is a male that came from BHB Reptiles and is named after Dr. Chewy .
@calkingshinobi I usually tell people give the snake a week to settle in before offering it food or handling it because being moved around and forced into a new environment stresses them out. Don't rush the snake and give it a chance to adapt to it's new home first and foremost.
i love how they have their heads up, looking and smelling. like a guard dog :P but a snake. so cute. they really do love being on you, touching you, being close. they would recognize smell, and yours being the most recognizable they might just want to stick by you, rather then explore to far away? idk, just a thought :) great video as always, and a good question to!
@BrittanyNicole1990 Thank you for your opinion Brittany it really means a lot to me!!!! I've pondered this issue for so long and it's really odd the way they cling to me all the time even with every opportunity to stay off. Good thoughts and input and I really appreciate you watching the video and commenting :O)
nice! is she really protective?
chamalani 3 days ago

Humans don't have any issues with killing snakes they find in the wild and using them as a trophy.

beautiful snake. My boa does the same thing he is young but he always with me. how old is your python. He is very heathy.
MegaRedtailboa 1 week ago
@MegaRedtailboa Thank You !!! Chewy, the one in this video is now three years old and ten feet long and I'm raising a female Coastal Carpet that is six months old and two feet long. Sure will be glad when she starts to show some weight instead of length but that's just how they grow.

liamb561 2 weeks ago
@liamb561 Thank you sincerely :O) Chewy is a total sweetheart and never has a bad day nor never displays anything other than being a friendly, sociable animal. He wins the hearts of everyone that has met him and he's an awesome companion. He's a very active and alert and curious snake and loves being out and spending time with people.

Beautiful snakes. I would give an arm and a leg for a carpet python but don't know how big of a habitat they need. What do you keep yours in?
MrJazzMan88 4 weeks ago
@MrJazzMan88 Chewy is in a 55 gallon tall tank only because I like to give my snakes plenty of room to thermo-regulate their temps. He's 10 feet and doesn't require this much space but just my own personal preference. I will send you a link in a message :O)

You know how snakes are about their home, u smell like home to them since by what you say they seem to spend as much time around the house as in their encloser :) do you have any vid of him following you across the yard? that would be awsome
chizoioioi 1 month ago
@chizoioioi They are outdoors all spring and summer early and late in the day when the sun isn't as hot for them. They will follow me around the yard and I've proved this to people that have come to visit me. I will try to get that on video this spring but I have many up that show how they have to always be by my side or touching me outdoors.

I have a juvinile coastal carpet python and she loves to be out of her cage and explore around the house! I have a video of her eating and striking so check it out!
RollerCoasterAnimal 1 month ago
@RollerCoasterAnimal I sure will and thanks for letting me know about it. My Coastal Carpet juvenile loves being out as well as my 3 year old that's in this video. I don't know why people discourage others from handling their snakes because once they get used to it they really strive to be sociable.

HunterReptileRooms 2 months ago
@HunterReptileRooms My huge 11 foot hundred pound Boa Constrictor Occidentalis will stay in their enclosure if they have a choice. I can leave their door open all day and they will extend outside the door to look around but normally have to be forced to come out of their enclosure. Of the venomous species I love the Boomslangs but there are few in captivity and I've always wanted a Gabby :O) I stick with large constrictors however. Taipan's are like bullets !!! Fast as lightning LOL
1softkiss 2 months ago
@1softkiss WOW! I thought my coastal Fluffy was a big boy at 17kgs his largest. Spose he is. But a 45kg Boa is something very cool. You probably know we can't get exotics here to keep our country from ferals. It would be nice to own a retic though.. Yeah, I have some other nice stuff, especially the Taipans, But since most of my subcribers are young and impressionable, I try to stay away as not to add influence to this type of keeping :)
HunterReptileRooms 2 months ago
@HunterReptileRooms I hear ya on that one. Can't count the newer ones in the hobby that want to buy an Argentine Boa when my female produces and definitely a snake for an experienced keeper. Nothing like common boas by no means.

do jungles get bigger then coastals?
and hat size of tank do you keep him in?
sorry if im asking to many quetions im just really interested in getting a carpet python
Feosnake 2 months ago
@Feosnake The size depends greatly on their locale but Jungle Carpets can also get the size of a Coastal, but usually they remain somewhat smaller. Coastals arr known as the larger of the Morelia species. Chewy is 10 feet long so he lives in a 55 gallon tank with a perch the full length of the tank. Carpets are semi-arboreals and it's more natural for them to eat from a perch than on the ground and they prefer to be up high most of the time. I will send you a link to Chewy's enclosure :O)

@Feosnake If you have any questions please feel free to message me anytime !!!
1softkiss 2 months ago
@Feosnake You're fine with asking questions :O) I have a LOT more respect for people that want to know about the snake than assuming they know and making a wrong choice and later on deciding they don't want the snake anymore or it's too big for them to handle.
1softkiss 2 months ago
how big do Coastals get?
Feosnake 2 months ago

I'm not sure what it is but i hope my carpet turns out like yours
tabbyoum 3 months ago
@tabbyoum Seriously trust me !!!!! Snakes bond to a point of getting VERY protective of their handler. I don't have one snake in my house that DOESN'T show EVERY indication that there is a dependency on their handler. If I have one Ball Python out on my lap the other one can't be out because the one on my lap will go after the one that approaches me. Together away from me they are fine. Chewy ALWAYS has to be close to me or touching me and if someone walks up to me he will go after them.
1softkiss 3 months ago
@tabbyoum My huge Argentine Boas are just as bad. I had the top level cage door open one day and didn't know my niece brought a guy in with her and my male struck over my left shoulder at the new person that had walked up behind me and literally spooked the crap out of me had I not snatched his neck he would have gone after the guy. It's by NO means your imagination but it takes constant handling and bonding or they will lose the bond somewhat and revert back to being somewhat defensive.
1softkiss 3 months ago
@tabbyoum Chewy struck at anything that moved ANYWHERE near his enclosure for about three months and now I'm raising my new female Coastal Carpet Python and I've had her three months and I can pick her up but first when I reach in she is ready to strike until I touch her head and nobody can reach for her or she will strike them. I think most all young adults are very defensive until they learn to trust and bond with their handler. Thank you for the compliment on Chewy :O)
1softkiss 3 months ago
I think It's because they are comofrtable with you and associate you with feeding, cleaning, and handling them and they feel secure with you. I don't think they are protecting you for the simple fact that I dont think snakes can think like that. They have a animal instinct to protect their eggs but I think thats as far as it goes.
HardCorpsReptiles 4 months ago
@HardCorpsReptiles They feel secure close to me or touching me and won't leave the area I'm in outdoors. I think it's a part of the trust/bond development between us. I have had my snakes strike at people that walked up to me when I had them outdoors on my lap though and freaked me right out. I think with constant work and handling they come to perceive their handler as a natural part of their domain and everyday environment. Thank you for the comment and the input :O)

1softkiss 4 months ago
Did he start out nippy at all?
skyyame 4 months ago
@skyyame LOL OH, YEAH !!!! 3 months of striking at everything that moved past his enclosure. He was always out on a branch in my hands on my bed and would swoop down and snatch the fur out of the top of my cats head between her ears just to let her know he was there. When he struck I reached in and picked him up til he realized his striking wasn't threatening to me and he stopped.
1softkiss 4 months ago
@1softkiss mine is a still a baby but he is a nightmare in the cage. I use a hook and once he's out he'l calm down to the point where he's completely tame in a couple minutes. Place him back in the enclosure and he's right back into strike mode, ugh
hopefully he'l relax a bit more
skyyame 4 months ago
@skyyame Babies are naturally defensive and even many adults remain cage defensive because they become used to their immediate environment inside the enclosure and consider intruders predators. Try letting the snake crawl onto a branch and bring the snake out while it's on the branch. That's how I broke Chewy and working with my new baby coastal with the branch now.
1softkiss 4 months ago
@skyyame If you allow a snake to come out on their own you are less likely to be perceived as a threat to them. I'm sending you a message with some links that will probably help you :O)
1softkiss 4 months ago
How heavy is Chewy? I just got my hatchling Coastal Jag a month ago. Sweet little things, once they learn that you aren't a threat.
Ultimategrid 6 months ago
@Ultimategrid The last time he had a vet visit over a year ago he weighed in at 23 pounds not sure what his weight is currently because the only time my snakes get weighed and measured is when they see their vet for their yearly exam. Carpet Pythons are amazing and they love to bond with their handler even to the point of being possessive and VERY protective.
1softkiss 6 months ago
@1softkiss
Ultimategrid 5 months ago
@Ultimategrid Check out some more of my videos. the one back at ya hsus shows Chewy being protective and defensive outdoors. I have lots of videos of my snakes being handled and bonding with myself and my friends. Carpets are very alert and they do associate with their handler on all terms. Chewy is 3 years old this month actually. At 1 year of age he was quite long but really didn't get as thick as he is until he reached about two years of age. Snakes are creatures of habit thus bonding is.
1softkiss 5 months ago
@Ultimategrid Snakes have a thought process and actually Retics are the most intelligent of all snakes. Snakes are resourceful and very alert to their surroundings and they recognize people and their immediate environment. With handling there's no reason they wouldn't become familiar and become protective and bond. If snakes don't have a mental capacity how can they be hook trained and how do they know where the door is to an enclosure and how to push it open? :O)
1softkiss 5 months ago
@1softkiss
Ultimategrid 5 months ago
@Ultimategrid If you work with snakes for many years and handle them you most definitely can see a thought process and form of calculating and reasoning. You will always have those people that refuse to believe snakes have any sense of knowing or caring because it's easier for people to believe what they want to than to see proof otherwise.
1softkiss 5 months ago
@1softkiss
I've been noticing that pythons and boas seem to be more intelligent than colubrids, is there any fact to this?
Ultimategrid 5 months ago
@Ultimategrid I don't think it's a case of more intelligent but pythons and boas seem to be calmer and more laid back than most Colubrids. Some pythons however are very hyperactive especially the reticulated pythons and they have proven to be among the most intelligent of all captive bred snake species. Colubrids are very high strung and exceptionally more active thus it appears their interest levels are more limited because of their inability to calm down as much.
1softkiss 5 months ago
@1softkiss I'm wondering if you have sources to back up your comment "reticulated pythons...have proven to be among the most intelligent of all captive bred snake species".
I keep a couple retics myself, as well as some other boid species, and I have noticed how retics seem more alert and inquisitive than other snakes and have seen other retic owners mention this too, but..... that does not qualify as being "proven" by any means.
I'm just wondering if you know about some studies that I don't?
SpiderShane1 5 months ago
@SpiderShane1 I sent you a message with links for information pertaining to the intelligence of Reticulated Pythons.
1softkiss 5 months ago
@1softkiss And yeah, I know they have larger brains than other species, but that does not necessarily equate to higher intelligence. After all, they are among the largest of snakes, so the brain is actually quite normal sized in relation to their huge bodies- a significant portion of which being used for motor control and coordination.
SpiderShane1 5 months ago
@1softkiss Btw, beautiful carpet :)
I just picked one up today, a coastal x jaguar baby. She looks like a worm lol, so small.
I like your other vids too, keep em comin'. You got some great animals.
SpiderShane1 5 months ago
@Ultimategrid I would have to add it depends highly on each snakes individual temperament and personality. Their living conditions and their social life interacting with people has a lot to do with their heightened interest and capability to respond to certain stimuli.
1softkiss 5 months ago
@Ultimategrid Chewy was two years old in this video if you check the date under the video.
1softkiss 5 months ago
@1softkiss
Sweet thanks, I guess I sorta missed that.
Ultimategrid 5 months ago
@mosesanderson7 if you make eye contact with a snake you can definitely tell there is a thinking process going on regardless that we aren't positive about what their thought capacity is. Many people say they are dumb and stupid animals an if that was the case snakes couldn't be hook trained and they also wouldn't bother to distinguish their handler from other people. They are amazing creatures and a ton more research needs to be done. They have found that snakes can hear in stereo now. :O)
1softkiss 6 months ago
@mosesanderson7 I've found that snakes always keep us nervy and edgy even though we've worked with them for many years. The reason being we know how fast they can react and how fast they can strike at something and their body can stay in one place and they can extend for several feet to strike something. Every time one of mine strikes it's food I jump, It's a normal reaction to be jumpy with snakes. In a way that's a good thing because it keeps us alert all of the time.
1softkiss 6 months ago
in my opinion snake are like dogs the more you love them the more they love you
mxboardguitarsnake5 6 months ago
@mxboardguitarsnake5 There are MANY of us that agree with you. Even though people consider them dumb and ignorant animals that say they have no emotional attachment to any humans. I've seen too many indications that there is a strong bond between a snake and it's handler.

I truly believe that our snakes do form a bond with us when we take the time to handle them and spend time with then. It is obvious that you and Chewy have a beautiful bond with one another. People truly underestimate snakes and their intelligence. I find snakes to be very inquisitive and curious about their handlers and surroundings.
cstoudt1973 11 months ago
@cstoudt1973 You are SO correct in your perception of how alert and curious snakes really are. They aren't invasive creatures by no means and usually prefer to avoid humans unless they are used to the bond and trust their handler and are spoiled babies like all of mine are. Sometimes we make bad judgment calls and get a bite but it's not personal toward us they are just doing what nature has taught them to do to protect themselves. I'm like this with all of my snakes cause I love them all ;O)

Oh okay, wow lucky i took it off her! She loved that thing more than her food!! @MrSahara93 The new video I'm working on shows the alternative way to heat a snakes enclosure that is totally safe and effective. I should have the video up tonight. What kind of top do you have on the snakes enclosure?
1softkiss 11 months ago
Thank you so much, you've been a great help.. and i have moved her closer to the window, and taken her heat rock away.. in time i think she will be less dependent on staying warm 24/7.. haha Dr Chewy is similar to my marge.. if i figure out how to use this properly I will send you a pic of her :) thank you again.. your a great inspiration :)
MrSahara93 11 months ago

MrSahara93 11 months ago

MrSahara93 11 months ago
@MrSahara93 I think there are way too many people that aren't personable enough with their snakes and then they wonder why their snakes perceive them as a predator instead. They are living beings and aren't dumb or oblivious to their environment. If a snake can sense nervousness and fears in a person that approaches them I'm sure they can sense love, caring, respect and dedication from their handler ;O) Humans eat when they are hungry snakes are the same way. Thank You For The Kind Words.!!!
1softkiss 11 months ago
I was curious as to how often you handle your snakes... We take my girl out of the enclosure quite often, but she seems to just want to find somewhere warm to hide... which leads to my other question, you said you rarely have them in their enclosures... Also if its not any trouble could you outline how you go about a typical week with your carpet ie handleing, feeding and where you let him roam?? Thnx -S.
MrSahara93 11 months ago
@MrSahara93 My carpet python and my ball pythons will curl up on my knee during the day with my legs crossed and watch the movement on my tv for hours on end. First thing in the morning I grab a cup of coffee, go over and take my carpets top off and he comes up across my shoulder and around my waist all by himself to come out. Chewy is on me every morning with my first few cups of coffee. Chewy hangs out around my neck while I'm doing housework actually and across my lower back.
1softkiss 11 months ago
@MrSahara93 Chewy is out almost every morning and in warm weather he's outdoors 3 times a week as well as my ball pythons go out as often. The ball pythons come out evenings and late night sometimes chewy hangs out with me while i watch t.v. I confine my snakes to an area close to me so I can keep them from wiping out everything on my shelves. most times they just want to be on me though. My coastal has a huge meal in october so doesn't eat in the winter til april each year since he was one.
1softkiss 11 months ago
@MrSahara93 Chewy has been on extra large and jumbo rats since he was almost two years old. He usually eats two or three a month. I don't feed any of my snakes until they have excreted their previous meal to be sure they don't have any digestive problems and to prevent them from getting bound up. I read body language to feed all my snakes and they are never on a regular schedule.
1softkiss 11 months ago
HEY CARPET SNAKE GIRL! I also have a coastal carpet python (Margery) who i adore to no ends! She is around 8 months old and I have had her for 7months. It moved me to hear how intouch with your snakes you are, and that they depend on you to feel secure out in the open. They are at one with you, and the way he is standing in the air just looking out and protecting you is astounding! You are a true snake ladie lol.
MrSahara93 11 months ago
@MrSahara93 I don't know why anyone would have a defensive Carpet Python unless it's never handled. They are so amazing and very protective. Actually I'm working on a new video of Chewy tonight showing how calm he is. Congratulations on a great choice :O) Also love the name of your Carpet Python !! Thank you so much. I've seen some people that snakes just love to strike at and others that have a natural bond with them. They really can read people !!
1softkiss 11 months ago
that is so awesome, i believe being kind to an animal and letting it get used to you as a person reflects the persons personality. cool shit, i just got a little baby pastel ball python(:
massblunts420 1 year ago

1softkiss 1 year ago
This is definetly true with my carpet pythons. When i first bring a new one i let them settle in, then after a few days i take them out to handle them usually they are fine with me, but if someone else tries to touch them.... Well lets say its bad news;)
11snakefish 1 year ago
@11snakefish Chewy has well adapted to being held but his preference is the female gender. This is probably due to the fact that I hold him and handle him constantly and he is VERY reluctant to go to a male. They do indeed bond with their handler and the person that cares for them.
1softkiss 1 year ago
are amazing and misunderstood and can form bonds with people (well some anyways
i type too much T-T
TMSreptiles 1 year ago
@TMSreptiles Every snake that I've owned has never shown any aggression toward me nor are defensive unless they just don't want to be bothered and that doesn't end with a bite from them. They are VERY misunderstood and I'm SO sick of all the lies and misconceptions about them. They do bond with their handler if they are handled daily like mine always are. You don't type too much check out my lengthy comments LOL I can talk about snakes forever and often do ;O)
1softkiss 1 year ago
@TMSreptiles Snakes are like people in as you can have ten snakes from the same clutch or litter and each one is an individual with different coloring, patterns and personality, and moods as well and they all respond differently to their environment. I don't know why the media wants to categorize them all as evil aggressive killers hell, look at all the lives humans take of their own species!!! Can say more for snakes and their social skills and values than most humans actually.

this reminds me alot of my relationship with my blue beauty snake but is the exact opposite of my relationship with korean rat snakes
the blue beauty always stays with me (though i cant really put him down cuz hes super fast ;P) while the female korean tries to run and the male sits and attacks
and although its not serious like a bite from an argentine boa but it sure is annoying
and its kinda scary because his strike range is about 1/2 of his wittle body
lol
anyways i believe that they

What a beautiful carpet:), Karla i believe snakes do get attached to mostly one person and will actually pertect that person like my boa he really only lets me carry him lol, ang great video like always
snakeman9090 1 year ago
@snakeman9090 Thank you and I have to totally agree with you. What I see and have seen in each of my snakes is their natural sense of being protective and defensive of me. I would think it's just a coincidence with one snake but every one of mine do the same thing and stand by me or on me especially outdoors. It's really an indication that more research really needs to be done on their natural instincts and behavior. Thank you for the nice compliment and for watching :O)
1softkiss 1 year ago
What a beautiful carpet. I still can't believe how good he is at lifting his body up like that. They really do seem to be secure around you!
jxz107 1 year ago
@jxz107 Thank You!!!! He is really very cool and always on my lap or standing and looking around and it's very rare to see him on the ground outdoors. I sort of raised him on a branch that I held with him on it to eat his meals and for exercise since he was a tiny little guy so think that had a lot to do with his upper body strength.
1softkiss 1 year ago
The same thing happens with my colombian boa ^_^ He's ALWAYS gotta be on me or wrapped around my shoulders. I've had him since he was 6 weeks old, so I definitely know he has a bond with me. Btw, Chewy is SO adorable <33 I hope to have a carpet python one day :D
xXHWSXx 1 year ago
@xXHWSXx That's So totally cool to hear!!! I have the utmost respect for people that give their snakes some freedom and allow them to explore and most all snakes will bond that have this chance and opportunity :O) Carpet Pythons are so amazing and so different from Boas and most other pythons. A real learning experience and a wonderful one so hope someday you have the opportunity !!!

Great video, Chewy is looking beautiful and huge! I live in england so due to the weather I rarely get a chance to take my snakes outside, aren't you worried about yours getting mites or even getting ill?? Thanks :)
BeneethTheSurface 1 year ago

1000000000stars!
cutegayjason 1 year ago
@cutegayjason Thank you Jason and I totally agree. I think the bond goes MUCH deeper when people handle their snakes a lot. Heck mine are closer to me and more dependent on me than any cat or dog has ever been that I've owned. You know, my snakes do the same thing when someone else has one of them they extend and try to find me and come back to me. I think they feel secure with us as well as somewhat protective. Thank you for watching and for your opinion and for the great rating ;O)

maarakailet1 1 year ago

rednecklivin08 1 year ago
@rednecklivin08 Thank you :O) He is amazing I give him that!!! Can't get him off me for anything so he's real easy to keep up with. Almost acts like a bodyguard outdoors.Carpets are truly wonderful snakes to raise and for sure they love the attention and to be able to explore. They still remind me of an ADHD problem though. Most people say they have to chase their snakes around and heck, I can't get mine to leave me alone. LOL How old is your Carpet or was when you got her?
1softkiss 1 year ago
@1softkiss Oh no.. I dont have a carpet.. I have a Peruvian Long-Tailed Boa.. Im not quite sure of her age.. But she is 5 feet.. Im not sure you can guess their age due to their size.. Hopefully I can get some awesome videos like yours up with her.. :-)

gerijuana 1 year ago
@gerijuana VERY well said Gerry and I would say the same thing word for word. I really don't think people that never spend much time handling their snakes would see this bond and closeness and dependency like we do that always have ours out. I really choose to believe they do appreciate our devotion, care, and attention and thus bond with us and depend on our closeness sometimes. Thank you VERY sincerely Gerry!!! We think so much alike when it comes to our babies. :O)
1softkiss 1 year ago
well it possible ive noticed when you keep a snake for along time youll make some kind of bond not like a dog and human but still u build a little bond.
Hardcorecolubrids 1 year ago

I think if given the chance they would defend you ecause how much contact you have with them it could be possible!
Ratsnake151 1 year ago
@Ratsnake151 Thank you !!! I sort of feel that is the issue because I've had a couple of my snakes (My Big Argentines) when out take a dead beat toward someone that approached me and even had my make strike at someone outside the enclosure door that was standing behind me. It's hard to really know and I think a lot more research really needs to be done on snakes and other reptiles.
1softkiss 1 year ago
@1softkiss ops sorry bout the type o there ;O) That is even had my male strike not my make strike. LOL
1softkiss 1 year ago
@1softkiss Yes I think like a dog many you just need to introduce them to friends and take it outside the cage then slowly maby get there sent on you and itroduce them then you can maby move outside and if need be put some rope or somethieng around there moutn and just show that this person is a friend not an enamy or somethine it maby just a time project I really dont know but it will work out atleast you have something to protect you lol!!
Ratsnake151 1 year ago
@Ratsnake151 Good points!!!! They definitely do recognize our scent and our body temperature and can distinguish ours from a strangers. I think that's why so many snakes are cage aggressive because they spend so much time in there and seldom have any freedom outside in nature where it is natural to them, but they aren't aware of that unless they get to go out to get used to it. Snakes adapt to their environment for sure.

i got a ij carpet python on the 7th of this month and i was wondering is it best to let her eat for the first time with us before i handle her?
calkingshinobi 1 year ago
@calkingshinobi I usually tell people give the snake a week to settle in before offering it food or handling it because being moved around and forced into a new environment stresses them out. Don't rush the snake and give it a chance to adapt to it's new home first and foremost.
1softkiss 1 year ago
i love how they have their heads up, looking and smelling. like a guard dog :P but a snake. so cute. they really do love being on you, touching you, being close. they would recognize smell, and yours being the most recognizable they might just want to stick by you, rather then explore to far away? idk, just a thought :) great video as always, and a good question to!
