@rrbond07 I apologize for the misunderstanding. When I said faith was all that matters, I was stating my disliking for the fact that many consider works what gets you into either Heaven or Hell; aka, even believers can go to Hell. Of course faith in works is what matters, I believe in that wholeheartedly. However please do not assume what I obviously do in Christianity. I do not select certain parts, I believe in all of it. Perhaps my last statement did not clear that ip enough.
I've noticed that some Protestants on here have been a bit snippy with those of other denominations on this. Myself a non-denominational, I am distraught at this. All denominations, so long as they believe in Christ as the Messiah come to save man, are saved. I for one am absolutely fascinated with Catholic traditions, yet I love the laid-back Protestant sermons.
As for the caps-rage rant that squirell1952 put up: I disagree. It's not works that decide, but faith. That's all that matters.
@Opatrovat - thank you for your comment, I agree but for your last words: 'That's all that matters' (faith) let me cite the words of St Paul from Corinthians 13:2 which says: 'f I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God's secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn't love others, I would be nothing.'
@Opatrovat You may be fascinated with Catholic traditions, but that is as far as it goes for you. There is more than just faith. You obviously select parts of scripture that would go along with what you want until those things stated in scripture are uncomfortable for you. Even the Apostiles had to work out their problems. They praticed their faith with works. One alone, without the other does not sufice.

As You sow Your love in my garden, let me keep custody of my eyes- that they may flee from anything that is not Your face, my empty countenance escaping into the world, only filth, mere expression , lost to the four winds all too quickly. You will vanquish the emptiness of my desire, the desert that lives inside my heart, my soul, then, O G*d my G*d, then You will brand Your mighty name upon the heart of my heart, and the blood of my blood, and I will know Your Power-
You are every corner of the world, You! You, O my Life! You will protect me, You will always give me strength so that I may guard my tongue, so that it may not sing of any love of mine which is not You. Even all my sorrow- the smallest longing of my sadness- the anguish that are my tears- the bitter vinegar that is the anger of my will- these, each one, by the kiss of Your love, You will raze to the earth.

@C1Astra I am here listening to it because I typed "gregorian chants" into my search bar. It's part of my personal enjoyment of almost any kind of music. I didn't have any divine guidance to come here ;)
Christ is King and HE will come soon as it says in the scriptures. If you dont believe then sorry about your fate. There is no question..turn around now and become a follower of Jesus before too late..PLEASE.
@andersmh123 Christ is King and HE will come soon as it says in the scriptures. If you dont believe then sorry about your fate. There is no question..turn around now and become a follower of Jesus before too late..PLEASE
its actually all questionable.
the way you speak is somethin i always hated about cristianity.
pretending that every other fate is a fake, when it has already been proven why, how, when this sect became a state religion.
argh this is not the kinda of chanting i want!!!!!! though its nice, does anyone know the type of chanting that is just like vocals, no words, usually used in epic war songs
This is so beautiful. Why on earth did the Holy Church abandon Latin. Gregorian Plain Song is so uplifting. Please bring back Latin back in the Church.
@livesteam Holy Church abandoned Latin? you are wrong, latin is still being teached on seminaries and if you want you can go to Mass with Tridentine Rite. The fact that "ordinary" mass is said on your language doesn`t means latin doen't exists for the Church :P
@kremosakhaz ... Not In my town .... The only church where Latin is still used during mass, belongs to the Mgr Lefebvre movement, which is shunned by Vatican II movement. All we have is Mass in the local language i;e; French or Dutch. Exceptionally Latin is used in the Cathedral during major feasts, such as Easter, Whitsun and All Saints, etc. But not for Sunday Mass .....
@livesteam The church still does signing in Latin...but like you said...not anymore to a big scale. I would have loved to be a Catholic in the middle ages/renaissance era. That would have been spiritually riveting
Well Sooooory... I type fast and dont check my spelling xD
And i dont believe in Hell so i wont be going anywhere else then the ground ...preferably as ashes because i don't want my body to be eaten by worms -.-
It is the Son of Man who divided the Church, which is sinful. .Listening to Gregorian music isn't, attending a different service is not. As long as your heart is true to God, it does not matter where or how you praise Him
@BlackPlague420 "There is the music of Bach, therefore there is a God." One of my favorite modern philosophers, Peter Kreeft, has said that he's heard a number of friends converted from the beauty of music. God bless you, oh and if you had any questions I'd recommend looking up Kreeft online (he has a website) or throwing me a questions. :)
This song is very beautiful, but really I don't belong any religion although I believe in god, I know there'is something what created the universe. Something far away.
I have a question. Gregorian monks are mostly common in Catholic beliefs, but I myself am a Baptist Christian. Is it wrong to listen and cherish gregorian music such as this since my beliefs are different?
1) What kind of a sin would it be? What commandment would it be violating?
2) Gregorian chant is simply beautiful -- there's nothing to fear in valuing what is valuable in religions other than our own. And that goes for people of all faiths
@TheLonelyBearCub Plain chant is non sectarian The ethos behind it seeks to transcend the baser human instincts and passions. These sentiments are to be found in the better elements of all the major religions. Take the beauty and leave what bothers you.
@TheLonelyBearCub Of course not. We are all christians after all. I also like orthodox music and I don´t believe in the orthodox church. But I consider all christians (that is, people who believe Jesus is the Son of God, and in the Holy Trinity) as brothers amd sisters.
@ethana2 I consider you my brother too, but not in the same sense I´d consider another christian. Because as christians we are united in Jesus Christ, through our common faith (christian in general) and the sacrament of Baptism. I imagine this is can be hard for an atheist to understand, but that´s how I feel.
@ethana2 Many christians today do not literally interpret the old testament, only the new testament is completely literally believed. This is simply due to the contradictions and unlikely events of the old testament, depicting a false view of God who hated and killed.
Perhaps you should try to learn about the Catholic church, it upholds reason and logic when deciphering scripture, and does no shun science. Christianity acts against Human Nature, it is impossible that it could be human made.
@Schism704 So Islam and Hinduism can't be human made either? Since by your standards its against human nature as well(which it isn't). And how you can claim that the vatican upholds reason and logic, please explain that part because it's like claiming that Mrs Palin is intellectual.
@Axcalzia What? I never said they were not human made, Islam has some connections to the new testament and therefore it is partially correct, but for the most part Human made. Hinduism is completely human made as they merely worship the animals that surround them.
Also, Mrs Palin is not a Catholic, she is a Creationist Protestant. Catholics agree with all scientific fact and even help contribute to science in many ways! (e.g Catholic funded observatorys)
@Schism704 Hinduism describes multiuniverses and a round earth, which is more than the bible who says that the earth is standing on pillars. Scientifically both Islam and Hinduism are more correct than Christianity. And if it wasn't for the catholic church's opression of scientists we would be wastly more advanced by now. The church have been persecuting people for stating that the earth is round and that the earth rotates around the sun. It took them long time to accept those truths.
@Axcalzia I agree, what the catholic church did many hundreds of years ago was horrific, but this was during the time when the Old Testament was taken 100% literally and the Church was hugely corrupt. Today it is no longer corrupt and does not interpret the Old Testament completely literally.
@Schism704 The Vatican haven't changed. No matter how many boys getting raped, they would still keep it a secret, unless the media got to hear about it, which happened recently. They help spreading aids by condemning condoms, and they endorse discrimination and hatred towards homosexuals and followers of other beliefs. And if they were wrong before regarding the old testament, how can u know that they aren't wrong still? They change their dogmas constantly, every time claiming its the new truth.
@Axcalzia Firstly, the church never ever changes its stance on anything unless its some kind of newly discovered scientific research, (for example when evolution was first discovered). Secondly, they do not help spread aids, the people who spread it only half heartidly follow the rules, contraceptives are sinful but you are only ever really allowed to have sex with one person, (unless they death parts them) and if you are married and about to have children surely you would see if you have HIV?
@Axcalzia The media constantly warps the churchs' stance on things making it seem like they have changed the rules, but this is not true.
Also, the church does not have a hateful stance against homosexuals, homosexuality is to be treated as a disease in need of a cure, the individual who has the genetic disorder must be helped, not hated.
and Lastly, the pedophilia in the church is sad, but the church tried to make those priests seek forgiveness, as it works differently to any countries laws.
@Schism704 That there still exist people who believes homosexuality is a diseases and needs to be treated, just shows how good religion is at brain washing. Without religion I don't think we would the type of organized homophobia as we have today. Genetic disorder you say? Do you know what, they have found a gene that makes us available to the ideas of religion - that's a genetic disorder for ya. Love is love, why should two guys loving each other not be able to express their feelings?
@Axcalzia because sex is only justified by procreation within marriage, if you cannot procreate than it would not be permitted at all as it is merely Lust, which is a sin.
I also find it highly unlikely that there is a "religion gene" as it is a state of mind, just as Atheism is a state of mind, and why would this gene make us more susceptable to just being religious? Would it not also make an equally evangelical atheist as well as a devout religious individual?
@Schism704 The problem is that it's not as simple in theory, people don't care about "procreation within marriage" when they become aroused, ask the priests. And I think you rather have them to use condoms and at least save the poor boys from STDs.
And ffs just google "gene for religion" and you'll see that it actually exists a gene for it. I bet you don't believe in evolution either.
@Axcalzia Incorrect, i am Catholic and Catholics agree with all scientific fact. Evolution is clearly a fact.
Also, this "religious gene" could perhaps apply to some, but i seriously doubt it applies to me, i never ever have feelings of a spiritual nature, and rarely as it describes, am i optimistic. The only reason i believe in God is because it is logical to believe. (Atleast logical to believe in God following the Catholic view point)
@gnaym1968 Catholics do. We may not agree with some scientific research on a moral standing but we do not shun science. The bible is interpreted as an historian interprets any history, all the parts are analysed and then it is determined whether or not there is enough evidence to suggest the events in question really happened. The New Testament is 100% literally interpreted, the old testament however is different as a lot of it is contradictory to science and other parts of the bible.
If you legitimately studied science at a tertiary institution, you'd quickly learn that evolution is only a theory. There remains huge, gaping holes in the theory. Evolution is in fact an unprovable experiment as it talks of origins, which cannot be tested like any other legitimate scientific process. While 'survival of the fittest' and adaptation and natural selections certainly occur (and have), evolution cannot answer HOW life (and its complex design) exists.
@kostumeman Believers denying that God made all the laws of science are driving thinking people away from God. Who are creationists to tell God how to design the universe?? :( God bless you with wisdom! PAX
Actually they're not all certain, as far as I know. There are contestations to "natural selection" as the way which evolution occurs (now they talk of 'completely random modifications) etc
@ethana2 Sorry for you. You obviously were not advised on how to read it. It´s and old book and many things can shock our modern, secular mentality. Either you were bad advised or you were already lacking faith.
My advise is: you should have read the NT before the OT. Because once you understand the NT properly, the OT makes sense. The NT is the most important.
Through infant baptism, keeping sacraments, church membership, going to mass, praying to Mary, and confession (just to mention a few), the Catholic church has developed a system of salvation through WORKS. God's word says that we are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, not through works". "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." (Eph. 2:8-9)
I'm an atheist, but I love this music. It's not necessary to turn this into a youtube fight between the religious and the non-religious. Save that for elsewhere. This is music. Read into it what you will.
christ is the lord, all be praised him and his lamb, for this is the blood, and the life eternal, all shall lie by his side and forgive them that know not, for they are the children of wayward peoples, this is said and written on the house that hath bore them through strife, be gone this strife, no longer shall you live this way, for i am the light and the way
And so I ask to His Blessedness "Why do we listen to Christian Rock if our true purpose of respect to You is through behavior and thought?" It is the story of the Two Sons that was explained by You. Behold, now I pray in consideration of the Holy Ghost to be conceived of me to bestow me emotional peace.
In jesus nomen. In nomeneh patrish, et filii, et spiritus sancti, amen.
Hoy se confirman en Caravaca mis buenas amigas Ramona y Maritina, además de Seve, hijo de Ramona. Que el Espíritu Santo las llene de sus dones y las envuelva en su amor. Amén.

God is offended by receiving Him on "dirty" hands(ONLY priest can touch Him) in the Holy Eucharist!
Only accepted by Heaven form of receiving living Heart of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist of the Catholic Church is into our mouth and on both our knees!
Just take example from Pope Benedict XVI !!!

This is so beautiful. Why on earth did the Holy Church abandon Latin. Gregorian Plain Song is so uplifting. Please bring back Latin back in the Church.
livesteam 1 year ago 37
@livesteam Holy Church abandoned Latin? you are wrong, latin is still being teached on seminaries and if you want you can go to Mass with Tridentine Rite. The fact that "ordinary" mass is said on your language doesn`t means latin doen't exists for the Church :P
kremosakhaz 1 year ago
@kremosakhaz ... Not In my town .... The only church where Latin is still used during mass, belongs to the Mgr Lefebvre movement, which is shunned by Vatican II movement. All we have is Mass in the local language i;e; French or Dutch. Exceptionally Latin is used in the Cathedral during major feasts, such as Easter, Whitsun and All Saints, etc. But not for Sunday Mass .....

@livesteam The Church thought it would be more charitable to provide meaningful work for modern hack songwriters, who would be otherwise unemployed.

@livesteam The church still does signing in Latin...but like you said...not anymore to a big scale. I would have loved to be a Catholic in the middle ages/renaissance era. That would have been spiritually riveting

God didn't "make" religions or divide His Church.
It is the Son of Man who divided the Church, which is sinful. .Listening to Gregorian music isn't, attending a different service is not. As long as your heart is true to God, it does not matter where or how you praise Him
May God keep you.

I have a question. Gregorian monks are mostly common in Catholic beliefs, but I myself am a Baptist Christian. Is it wrong to listen and cherish gregorian music such as this since my beliefs are different?
TheLonelyBearCub 1 year ago
@TheLonelyBearCub
I don't see why, and for two reasons
1) What kind of a sin would it be? What commandment would it be violating?
2) Gregorian chant is simply beautiful -- there's nothing to fear in valuing what is valuable in religions other than our own. And that goes for people of all faiths
Szpondt 1 year ago
@TheLonelyBearCub Plain chant is non sectarian The ethos behind it seeks to transcend the baser human instincts and passions. These sentiments are to be found in the better elements of all the major religions. Take the beauty and leave what bothers you.
flanncada 1 year ago
@TheLonelyBearCub Of course not. We are all christians after all. I also like orthodox music and I don´t believe in the orthodox church. But I consider all christians (that is, people who believe Jesus is the Son of God, and in the Holy Trinity) as brothers amd sisters.
1999521 9 months ago
@1999521 I consider you my brother, and I'm an atheist. If you don't consider me your brother also, you've basically betrayed our common humanity :|
ethana2 8 months ago
@ethana2 I consider you my brother too, but not in the same sense I´d consider another christian. Because as christians we are united in Jesus Christ, through our common faith (christian in general) and the sacrament of Baptism. I imagine this is can be hard for an atheist to understand, but that´s how I feel.
1999521 8 months ago
@1999521 I was a Christian until like three months ago. I abandoned the religion when I read the Bible.
ethana2 8 months ago
@ethana2 Many christians today do not literally interpret the old testament, only the new testament is completely literally believed. This is simply due to the contradictions and unlikely events of the old testament, depicting a false view of God who hated and killed.
Perhaps you should try to learn about the Catholic church, it upholds reason and logic when deciphering scripture, and does no shun science. Christianity acts against Human Nature, it is impossible that it could be human made.
Schism704 8 months ago
@Schism704 So Islam and Hinduism can't be human made either? Since by your standards its against human nature as well(which it isn't). And how you can claim that the vatican upholds reason and logic, please explain that part because it's like claiming that Mrs Palin is intellectual.
Axcalzia 8 months ago
@Axcalzia What? I never said they were not human made, Islam has some connections to the new testament and therefore it is partially correct, but for the most part Human made. Hinduism is completely human made as they merely worship the animals that surround them.
Also, Mrs Palin is not a Catholic, she is a Creationist Protestant. Catholics agree with all scientific fact and even help contribute to science in many ways! (e.g Catholic funded observatorys)
Schism704 8 months ago
@Schism704 Hinduism describes multiuniverses and a round earth, which is more than the bible who says that the earth is standing on pillars. Scientifically both Islam and Hinduism are more correct than Christianity. And if it wasn't for the catholic church's opression of scientists we would be wastly more advanced by now. The church have been persecuting people for stating that the earth is round and that the earth rotates around the sun. It took them long time to accept those truths.
Axcalzia 8 months ago
@Axcalzia I agree, what the catholic church did many hundreds of years ago was horrific, but this was during the time when the Old Testament was taken 100% literally and the Church was hugely corrupt. Today it is no longer corrupt and does not interpret the Old Testament completely literally.
Schism704 8 months ago
@Schism704 The Vatican haven't changed. No matter how many boys getting raped, they would still keep it a secret, unless the media got to hear about it, which happened recently. They help spreading aids by condemning condoms, and they endorse discrimination and hatred towards homosexuals and followers of other beliefs. And if they were wrong before regarding the old testament, how can u know that they aren't wrong still? They change their dogmas constantly, every time claiming its the new truth.
Axcalzia 8 months ago
@Axcalzia Firstly, the church never ever changes its stance on anything unless its some kind of newly discovered scientific research, (for example when evolution was first discovered). Secondly, they do not help spread aids, the people who spread it only half heartidly follow the rules, contraceptives are sinful but you are only ever really allowed to have sex with one person, (unless they death parts them) and if you are married and about to have children surely you would see if you have HIV?
Schism704 8 months ago
@Axcalzia The media constantly warps the churchs' stance on things making it seem like they have changed the rules, but this is not true.
Also, the church does not have a hateful stance against homosexuals, homosexuality is to be treated as a disease in need of a cure, the individual who has the genetic disorder must be helped, not hated.
and Lastly, the pedophilia in the church is sad, but the church tried to make those priests seek forgiveness, as it works differently to any countries laws.
Schism704 8 months ago
@Schism704 That there still exist people who believes homosexuality is a diseases and needs to be treated, just shows how good religion is at brain washing. Without religion I don't think we would the type of organized homophobia as we have today. Genetic disorder you say? Do you know what, they have found a gene that makes us available to the ideas of religion - that's a genetic disorder for ya. Love is love, why should two guys loving each other not be able to express their feelings?
Axcalzia 8 months ago
@Axcalzia because sex is only justified by procreation within marriage, if you cannot procreate than it would not be permitted at all as it is merely Lust, which is a sin.
I also find it highly unlikely that there is a "religion gene" as it is a state of mind, just as Atheism is a state of mind, and why would this gene make us more susceptable to just being religious? Would it not also make an equally evangelical atheist as well as a devout religious individual?
Schism704 7 months ago
@Schism704 The problem is that it's not as simple in theory, people don't care about "procreation within marriage" when they become aroused, ask the priests. And I think you rather have them to use condoms and at least save the poor boys from STDs.
And ffs just google "gene for religion" and you'll see that it actually exists a gene for it. I bet you don't believe in evolution either.
Axcalzia 7 months ago
@Axcalzia Incorrect, i am Catholic and Catholics agree with all scientific fact. Evolution is clearly a fact.
Also, this "religious gene" could perhaps apply to some, but i seriously doubt it applies to me, i never ever have feelings of a spiritual nature, and rarely as it describes, am i optimistic. The only reason i believe in God is because it is logical to believe. (Atleast logical to believe in God following the Catholic view point)
Schism704 7 months ago
@Schism704 I never stated that all religious people got the gene, just that there exist one that makes one more vulnerable to the ideas of religion.
Axcalzia 7 months ago
@Axcalzia I see, well im no geneticist so i will not debate that which i do not know.
Schism704 7 months ago
@Schism704 No we DON"T agree with scientific facts , than is agreeing with the atheist .
gnaym1968 7 months ago
@gnaym1968 Catholics do. We may not agree with some scientific research on a moral standing but we do not shun science. The bible is interpreted as an historian interprets any history, all the parts are analysed and then it is determined whether or not there is enough evidence to suggest the events in question really happened. The New Testament is 100% literally interpreted, the old testament however is different as a lot of it is contradictory to science and other parts of the bible.
Schism704 7 months ago
@Schism704
If you legitimately studied science at a tertiary institution, you'd quickly learn that evolution is only a theory. There remains huge, gaping holes in the theory. Evolution is in fact an unprovable experiment as it talks of origins, which cannot be tested like any other legitimate scientific process. While 'survival of the fittest' and adaptation and natural selections certainly occur (and have), evolution cannot answer HOW life (and its complex design) exists.
kostumeman 5 months ago 8
@kostumeman i agree, my point is we let the scientists discover our origins
Schism704 5 months ago
@kostumeman Believers denying that God made all the laws of science are driving thinking people away from God. Who are creationists to tell God how to design the universe?? :( God bless you with wisdom! PAX
UndergroundVictorian 5 months ago
@kostumeman
