1) Knowing these inappropriate images existed before showing the video to her class means it was grounds for being terminated...no investigation necessary, no need for a paid leave. 2) I went to Wright Elementary 20 years ago and had vigilant, diligent parents that actually cared about what was 'fed' to me at this age. 20 years ago this teacher's career would be over. It's definitely a different age, which is why my children will not be educated by the government...

Educate not indoctrinate. Had talent - too bad it is unattractive. Nothing is as beautiful as Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Da Vinci -- real artists, with surreal talent.

where did ohhhdeceiver go to school? Seriously? I have never heard of any sex ed. in fourth grade. And I CERTAINLY am sure ANY sex ed. in schools does not include a drawing of two gay men masturbating each other. That is not even remotely sex ed.

This lady is an art teacher, those kids are fourth grade, give them some paper and crayons.

Crazy choice for 4th grade. Case in point - the icon for this video is the "Safe Sex" image. Duh! Bad choice. The "Drawing the Line" documentary is free of this painting and is actually interesting and has comments and connections. This is just a lazy teacher who didn't view this before showing. OOPS

Seriously people??? This is NOT smut nor inappropriate and very indicative of a messed up society that wants to say this is "gross". One cannot even tell that the images are sexually, unless you are speed viewing so in tune as to even identify it as same sex or masturbation unless you have a graphic real memory already and have been exposed to the real thing first. Give the teacher a break from YOUR, "indecent proposal".

I don't think so that I manipulated Keith Haring's work. I'm liberal, and realy love the pop art and pop culture since 1990, I saw one Rollings Stones lips (design by Andy Warhol I was 6 years old). Keith Haring likes Mickey Mouse because Mickey the pop culture in his symbols system. Andy Warhol and Keith Haring was friends and Andy helped to him. If somebody know how was Keith certainly knows he was homosexual.

Admittedly, a couple images are explicit. However, I'm not sure we need to shelter our children to the point of denial about worldly things. Also, each image is only lasting a second. I had to stop the video and back it up to even get an idea of what the image was showing. Sorry, I just don't think any child will be scarred for life from it.

honestly I don't see why everyone's so upset. Sex ed is taught in schools in 4th and 5th grade. I can almost guarantee kids have played the "I'll show you mine if you show me yours" by that age too. It's nothing they don't know about, and the images on the screen were shown for a feseconds. how is it any different than letting kids in 4th and 5th grade see pg-13 movies that contain much more suggestive content? The art is not arousing in nature or intent which I think makes all the difference.

I as an adult like the art shown in this video and at first was wondering why this was being blown up, the news blocks the explicit pictures, but watching the whole thing on here I was more than upset. How could you show this to 10 yr olds. It is disturbing that a teacher would do that and she needs to be reprimanded or fired.

If this is what was shown in the DSM classroom then I can see why the parent is upset. I would be too. My gosh this is very inappropriate to show a young one such as these kids. I counted four times where theres a penis drawn onto one of the drawings including the one of the two males masturbating. Talented artist but not appropriate for kids and I'm sure he would agree.

I would be outraged as well if this video were shown to my children. This was lewd and disturbing, at the very least. Some of the imagery was objectionable, and it was NOT appropriate for fourth graders. I hope the teacher is brought up on charges for this. Children's minds get warped enough; we don't need the school system turning them into perverts through art class.

If this is the same video that hit the news in DSM IOWA I can see why the parents would be angry. My 4th grader is just now thinking about the anatomy /phisology part of the world, I couldnt imagine him seeing this right now. If this is the video, he definitely didnt use very good judgement in this. there are better ways to show off a persons work. I would think that he is gonna be brought up on charges for sure if this is it.

I agree with the parent! I love much of Keith Haring's work and that art teacher could have easily shared examples of his work that didn't contain the sexually explicit pieces. Kids in 4th grade haven't even viewed the human growth and development film for the opposite sex yet so how can anyone say this is appropriate for that age?!

Sorry, to clarify: The teacher in DSM faces charges of showing sexually explicit material to minors. The authorities are determining whether or not this should be considered sexually explicit, and if the state does find in favor of the complaining parent (that the material is sexually explicit in nature), then the teacher will be brought up on charges.

I think there are some 4th graders who could handle the maturity of some of the controversy in these artworks, but I would HARDLY consider this sexually explicit, which is what this teacher in DSM faces.

I had never heard of this artist until tonight...a teacher showed this very video to a classroom of students, and the news article said a parent called to complain about the "sexual nature" of the video, and how it was inappropriate to show to minors...now the teacher is on unpaid suspension, and faces charges of showing sexually explicit material to minors.
