The Prius is a convenient scapegoat for whatever knee-jerk fears the average gear head has over his/her favourite cars being watered down. To assume that *one* model will somehow ruin cars that have little or nothing to do with it is more than a little presumptuous, because ironically, the same company that makes the Prius is also making the FT-86 and the L-FA, as was in F1 until only recently. I like cars for their own sake, and will not dismiss the Prius because of muddle-headed politics.

Word. The truth is the cars are getting faster and faster even as the emissions laws get tougher and tougher. Take the Nissan GTR. Technically, its an U-LEV (Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle) in Japan but "Baby Veyron" is fast enough to ruin Jeremy Clarkson's spine. A 911 Turbo's exhaust is actually cleaner than some cities' air quality, and oddly enough these days you can still get around 25 mpg from a *ZR-1*, and it has more torque than Jupiter. Engineers, man. They know their shit.

FLD, you missed the part about how the energy recovery system on the GT3R Hybrid doesn't use batteries. Instead, the power generated under braking is transfered to a third motor with a flywheel attached. The flywheel spins up and then that power is transfered back to the front wheels during acceleration. This enables them to store more braking power quickly, but it can only be used directly after braking since the flywheel only spins with enough useable energy for about 8 seconds.

I think the energy is available whenever you want. It just depends how much you're going to get when you push the button depending on how much you've stored up from braking.

the rally fighter looks similar to the X6. that is a cool concept with regards to the 911 gt3R hybrid. similar, in theory at least, to nitrous oxide in indy races. i wish they would come up with systems like that in production vehicles. why not use regenerative shocks in the porsche as well?

For that, the 911 would have to be sort of like a rally car, you need wheel travel for regenerative shocks & sport cars have a firm suspension that make feel even the smallest cracks on concrete. My personal opinion.

That GT3R Hybrid with Williams sounds very interesting. Though not as radical of a Williams collaboration as that Renault Espace F1 from the 1990s (the minivan with a mid-mounted Renault-Williams V10!). Best of luck to Porsche at the 'Ring. I'd love to see how today's Alfa Romeo would do in the US these days. That Rally Fighter looks pretty cool. Nice collaboration work by that team.
