When I was a child, Mr. Kell was always kind to me. In the broadcast booth, he would always sign my ball. His commentary was always entertaining to my whole family, and he will be missed.
I never thought george kell would or could die. I just youtubed him last week for some reason and found this tribute
someone in the greater detroit area or beyond must have something of anygame, anytime, anyyear of george and al they could put on youtube just to show everyone how it should be done. Every nuance every little comment or critique they shared during a broadcast would very much be deeply appreciated by this teary eyed 51 year old. thanks
Hall of Fame third baseman George Kell, a career .306 hitter over 15 seasons, died in his sleep in Swifton, Ark., early Tuesday morning (3/24/2009), television station KAIT in Jonesboro, Ark., reported.
George Kell is a wonderful man who is a great inspiration for all he did to make baseball what it was in its heyday. He was one of its hardest workiers and a great leader for Tiger teams in the 40's and 50's. I wish more players today could have the heart and work ethic he had, it would make it so much better than it currently is.
I aGree wit Tampa and Gef. The vid for George Kell is liek totally awesome! I dont kno who George Keel iz bUt that vIdEo of hiM dat Gefilte Fist did iz liek teh best!
Wow! Gefilte Fist's tribute to George Kell is fantastic! They even put George Bell in the video as WELL! This video is nice but you should check out the Gefilte Fist tribute to George Kell!
Yes, a huge thank you for posting this. I grew up watching him do the Tigers games of the 1970's on TV and for me, George Kell equals all that was good about growing up then. He is and has always been a class act and I miss hearing his voice.
When I was a kid in the 50's he was playing third for the Boston Red Sox, then without warning they traded him to the White Sox, I was some upset. But looking back on things the Red Sox just never seemed to be to smart in most of things they did.
Great Video. Please find a way for George Kell to be able to provide commentary/play-by-play from the comfort of his home
during some Tiger games this year.
I am too young to remember him as a player, but I was born at the right age when his TV broadcasts were the root of my love for baseball that continues to this day.
Had the chance to meet Mr. Kell at the Bob Feller Museum and in Kc. He is a true inspiration. There aren't many like him so we should learn from the type of person he is.
Nice tribute to the Detroit Tiger broadcaster who was also the first American League third baseman to win a batting title. Thank you for posting this.
RIP papa.. i love you
