Thanks Jim! Sorry for the slow reply. I must have missed this comment. If you're still interested, the whip is 12 plait and the fall is about 2 feet long. Thanks for asking!! I recommend Bernardo Del Carpio. He makes FANTASTIC whips that look just like the old school David Morgan whips. Happy cracking!
How long is that whip? I'm thinking about investing in one and I'm trying to figure out what's the best size. I'd like to go with an authentic Indiana Jones whip, but I'd like to use it for demonstrations in a school/museum setting. What would you recommend?
8 feet! It's a great compromise between the long, slow whips, and the fast, short ones. I definitely recommend this length for basic whipwork, although I'm no expert. Good luck!
Mate... put that piece of straw or whatever on something far away THEN break it.. In this video all you are doing is smashing it with the thong of the whip. A monkey could do that.
I'll see if I can make a new video for you, but good catch. You got me there! Yeah this video is almost 2 years old... so I'm going to have to make a new one. Sound good?
Nice whip action. Not quite polished. Don't force the whip down snap your wrist and let the whip flow out. All together, you've got a great start. Just remember that the spheghetti targets are just a parlor trick. They break off in your hand, no great skill. Work to snuffing candles and cutting cards, you will get much more enjoyment out of it in the long run. Good Job
your whips should mostl likely never break, that is if you are using them properly. What kind of whip do you have, where/when did you purchase it? How are you using it?
Your friends are sick and have their minds in the gutter. Bullwhips are not for people who don't take it seriously. You can have fun, but it's not a joke.
This video along with some others on this site has inspired me to learn more about bullwhiping in such a way that I've purchaced my first one a few days ago.
I've always been intersted in whips for the last 4 to 5 years and it's only until recently I've been excited to learn about it.
Nice work on your "Cattleman's" or "Circus" crack. What make of bullwhip are you using? You need to do a bit more work with your left-handed "Horizontal" crack, but that comes with practice. Looks like you were using a 10 or 12-footer? Just FYI, target work is best done with short whips, 5-8 feet. Longer whips are better for wrap-arounds and loud, spectacular cracks. You have a very relaxed style, and that's important. Enjoyed your clip.
You still have to work on your side throw. I would suggest wearing eye protection as you still haven't gotten a very good consistent stroke, yet! A target unless it is six or seven feet away is useless in developing whip skills. Those of us that are whip afficionados know that's a parlor trick at best. Always wear eye protection or at the very least a wide-brim hat. I'm sure Andrew's book told you that, so take his advice seriously. WHIPS ARE NOT TOYS!
I learned how to crack the whip through talking with people, reading books, and checking out online stuff. www.bullwhip.org might help if you yourself are trying to learn - they also sell a really good book!
AHHHHHHH I CRACKED MY WHIP IT FLEW FOWARD AN HIT MY BACK! WHERE THE KIDNEY IS!

Repro bag by What Price Glory, with an older Todd's Deluxe Strap (by ToddsCostumes)

Cool, I got one about a month ago with Todd's strap as well. The strap was REALLY dark though.

Good times, Indy McFly. Do the neighbors understand the obsession, or do they just call the police?

Very cool. Makes me want to go out and try this... or rather, try it without ending up having thirty cuts on my face as an end result.

If I mentioned to friends that I would like to buy a bullwhip and crack it, they would think I was some kind of pervert buying a whip. Why is that?

It's a Paul Stenhouse - and it's actually an 8 footer. I know it looks a little longer in the clip... sometimes that fall plays tricks on you. =P
Thanks in regards to the Cattleman's. I'll work on the left horizontal.
God bless,
Shane
