c'mon i understand them... the video is just crap. it's all about empty simbolism, and the only thing the video shows is a bunch of people floating in the air, and Brett desperatly trying to look cool (which he actually manages to do). the song is awesome, but heck, the video is laaaaaame.
I have read many times that Brett hates this video AND the song because it has too many "empty symbolisms" and the band hate seeing it. I wonder what they were thinking when they made it? Wasn't it the time just after Bernard's dad died when he was really unhappy and had loads of weird ideas for the band?
I personally think the song is amazing. I remenber waiting for the single to come out on Valentine's day in 1994, and thinking how good can this be against the the first album, and when I listened to the single, I was blowned away by the complexity and melody, the song is so Bernard....... I can understand why they don't like it, even thought Bernard wrote all the music for Suede, this is the single where Bernard is actually the highlight of the song.
The band disowned this song and were not happy bunnies around the time they made it I think. So that explains part of the whole leaving the room which is kind of funny... I don't see why it's so dreadfully pretentious myself but there you go. It has some high rise buildings and people floating around in the sky. all quite normally suedey. Are they symbolising suicide? And as for the song...oh what a song!
First of all mate its spelt pretentious eg.being self important and affected and second of all theres nothing even remotely pretentious about the video i find it to be quite modest and humble, pick up a dictionary shithead, now what ive said can be percieved as pretentious DER!

Those suede boys need to appreciate the pure beauty of Stay Together! It's a classic,it really is! I love it when they talk about hanging Bernard upside down,I agree because you don't really see much of it and the agony it must have caused! Eveyone keeps following each other out of the room, heh.I still think the song And video is beautiful.Sometimes pretentious is good :D
Hmm why is this cut just when Brett starts talking.

I don't care what the band think, this is a brilliant song, and the video isn't too bad!

I don't like the song. But I miss 'Maria Beretta Sueda'. She were more fun & suited the songs better.

It's basically the song that started all the problems between Butler and Anderson
