jap i think ZundappFan is right, i'm shooting a 50lbs longbow and my back looks even more strange :D in return i probably don't shoot so accurate :( i especially have more muscles in my neck but maybe thats because i have to ...aaahm absorb more recoil?
oww come one, compound??? film his back when he shoots a longbow, or any oldschool handbow. i'd say you would get some more interesting footage then..
@ZundappFan Dont diss peoples choice. Compound is merly a more efficient and easyer to use version of a bow. It still has limbs that flex, It just has the advantage of the draw length being the same every shoot.
Why would i want move my head, from being in the correct upright position, to touch the string with my nose which will put strian into my neck and bring my head out of alignment with my shoulders & spine?
That's so silly, COMPOUND bows are at most around 40" Axle to Axle,, this isn't recurve, and MOVING one's head might affect his anchor on the chin, and would simply ruin his shot sequence. Silly comment.
At the beginning his backtension action was totally falk, he only worked on the rightside shoulder and elbow point at the moment of release, there was neither surprise shot nor elbow suddently pop out.
Until 2:04... his form of backtension turned on and looked better.
Also he didnt relax both shoulders before rise the bow up. The form just start at 2 frozen shoulders at all.
lol, with a compound bow you don't do much at all man! i dont say compound sucks or whatever, if you like it, i dont care :P it's your choice, but i mean; use a heavy longbow and see what that does with your back muscles;)Using a longbow (and yes i know, NOT only a longbow xD), you'll use your muscles at full strength till you loose!
It dosent matter what he is shooting at,.... its the use of the muscles in the back during shooting.... the best form in archery comes from a consistant release.... same muscles same anchor point.... archery style is about duplication
if u shoot 200 arrows a day for practice and u put on a muscle shirt like a few months later the arm you shoot with will be 4 times larger than ur other arm
So,why, after three years of shooting, approx a thousand arrows a week if my LEFT shoulder muscle more promenant and harder than my right? And I'm right-handed.
my right arm is 18 inches around at the bicep. you are telling me that my arm will increase to 72 inches around after a month. give me a bow and call up guinness book of records you dumb ass. a true fact.
hi i am 14 and have a 75pounder compound bow i generally shoot kangaroos, emus, buffalos and things like that usually i use a bludgeon head but the other day i used a broad head and it kept on going through the kangaroos neck and from close range from a bludgeon tip it got stuck in the neck do you know how i can stop losing my arrows from the animals running away even with the bludgeon heads
Not being a hunter I would not be able to answer your question, apart from making the comment that maybe if you made a KILL shot with the arrow rather than a wound shot I would assume that you would not lose arrows due to the animal running away!
Damn near impossible for a 14 y/o to use a 75lbs??! When I was 14 I was 6'1 215lbs, I was benching 320... Not even close to impossible..not even hardly an effort. Lol, oh yeah.. And at 14 I was also using an 80 pounder now that I think about it. I'm not sure where you're from, but it was not "uncommon" to see kids my size at my age..lmao..football coaches sure loved it!
Each to there own, but I used to shoot recurve and unfortunately due to spinal injuries after an accident I can only hold under 16 lbs at full draw. At least shooting the compound bow keeps me in the sport that I love!
The left arm is as low as it will go, unfortunately the first part of this video was recorded with camera slightly on the tilt so the arm looks higher the it actually is.
Pretty good example for beginner archers that drawing heavier poundage bows, is more about upper body strength and not just how strong the archer's arms are :)
The best examples of this may be of warbow shooters, who have bows with draw weights of 70/80lbs, up to about 130 - 150lbs, the heaviest warbow that has been shot, is just over 200lbs, which is a world record :) Willie
Not grab is the answer. Ideally, you should let the bow follow it's natural path on release of the arrow, which is forward and down. With a correct length finger sling the bow will go forward fist and then rotate down, if you can keep your bow hand relaxed enough to let this happen then you will allow the arrow to follow it's true path to the target.
The 'huge peice' sticking out the front of the bow is called a stabiliser, and it turns back when i shoot the bow because it is designed to cause the bow to do what you see happening. It balances the bow in such a way that it will not allow the bow to go up from the front as this would interfere with the flight of the arrow on its way to the target.
well it depends man .. for a basic long bow .. nuthin like what this guy is using .. it can be easily 200 .. now idk where ur located but during hunting season walmart sellz a cheap compound bow .. which is perfect 4 beginners .. the bow this guy is using .. easily a thousand
If you search the web for Australian Archery you will be able to find a local club that will let you try the sport. Beginners equipment is relatively cheap, but more advanced setups can be very expensive, UK price range from £130 for beginners to £2000 for advanced.
well there not cheap lol for a pretty good bow about 40 dollars but you can just get a cheap starter bow ... but after you buy your bow you have to get the quick releaseand alot of other exceseries... if you wanna use it for hunting you have to get ALOT of extras
I see your point, but still, you have to be more awere of your movements, they have to be more consistent ! I wonder if you could make same movements in a final ?
I make the same movements whenever I shoot, whether in training, during a FITA or in ahead to head round. I train 3 nights a week & at least 1 of those nights is spent shooting with my eyes closed to make sure that I am fully aware of the feeling of the shot rather than the visual results. The aim of the video is to show how my back works throughout the shot. Consistency is only shown on the target face, as every shot is a different 1, they fell the same but may look different.
hmm, you have to work on your technique, you have to use your back even more, and your bow arm, are to still, it have to move forward, and you have to keep your bow shoulder down !!!
The bow shoulder is as low & forward as is possible, & is held there by using the 'lats', what you are seeing is the deltoideus on the shoulder, which make the shoulder look higher than it is. The draw is made using rhomboideus major & the trapezius inferior muscles which gives the correct use of the back mucles to execute the shot. The bow arm resists the effort excerted by the drawing arm, this is the correct & most efficient use of the back muscles.
Not knowing what Peter Suk recommends I could'nt answer yes or no! My front scapula (bow arm)is held forward & down by using the latissimus dorsi muscle, which keeps my bow shoulder low & gives me a high level of stability through my bow arm. On the drawing arm, I use the rhomboideus major & the trapezius inferior to to draw the bow, this gives me the correct use of the back to both draw the bow & execute the shot. Hope this answers your question.
I just shoot as often as i possably can, but at least once a week i shoot one whole session ( 3 hrs) with my eyes closed so that i can concentrate on the feel of the shot rather than the end results that i see.
How strong is your bow?
jap i think ZundappFan is right, i'm shooting a 50lbs longbow and my back looks even more strange :D in return i probably don't shoot so accurate :( i especially have more muscles in my neck but maybe thats because i have to ...aaahm absorb more recoil?
