  • Nobody understands the human condition and the healing power of music like Mick. Keith and the boys. Proof right here.

  • GREAT VERSION MICKS RIGHT IN TUNE ~

  • Very good version of a classic - Billy Preston was playing keyboards at the time but I don't know if he was on this - anybody know?

  • great video mick jagger , jim morrison both rock so u good bro!

  • dobies 1 better

  • 7 People never got lost in rock 'n roll

  • it's a nice track, I just get the feeling that they rush the chorus, especially the way jagger articulates 'soul' briefly and moves fast into the next line. IMO dobie's band nailed the tune and he gets a more memorable take than the stones, but this is their signature style so kudos to being unique.

  • Kurtz is the best

  • "Unreleased track", amazing. Imagine a summer in Nellcote with Keith and the boys... Shit!

  • <3

  • Royalty

  • Is it sacrilege to like this version more than Dobie's? Cuz I do. :-(

  • R.I.P Dobie !!!!

  • This song is great. I always wonder why the Stones have so much of this great stuff in the can and then don't release it. Who can say that the Stones don't have Soul?

  • R.I.P Dobie Gray.

  • rip dobey.... proper soul...

  • RIP Dobie Gray

  • Qué envidia dan, hubiera matado por ser un rolling stones. Me tendré que conformar con escucharlos que no es poco.

  • this a bit higher of tone than the original

  • hey so was this releash?

  • @MayChild8 nope only as a bootleg

  • who plays piano in the stones?

  • @wyattthorpe261 many people Ian Stewart, Nicky Hopkins , and Chuck Leavell are the ones who did alot of it

  • @jaggermorrison2010 This song features Nicky Hopkins

  • i love the stones

  • :)

  • Dobie Gray was not the original...just saying.

  • @cmharris211 yes he was. idk where u get ur information but its wrong....just saying

  • @Devincoughlin "Drift Away" is a song written by Mentor Williams and originally recorded by John Henry Kurtz on his 1972 album Reunion. In 1973 the song became Dobie Gray's biggest hit, peaking at number five on the Billboard Hot 100, though it did not enter the charts in the United Kingdom.

  • @Devincoughlin Actually is you look it up, Dobie Gray was the 6th artist to record this song.

  • @Gforce543211 No body ask me but i still replied. Its freedom of speech ,get over it.

  • I've been trying to find this on Itunes and amazon and found nothing. I'd like to have this so i can listen to it in my car. Does anyone know how i can get this version? There is a slowed down version by the stones but I prefer this one.

  • @JohnathanTravolta

there is a download station called mp3 rocket if you download that u can get all songs on youtube for free :D

  • @Gwendolyne3 it is common knowledge this is a stones recording, it's listed in session info books.the reason it may not sound like the stones to you might be because it's not a finished track and keith does not play on it.. btw jagger's vocal on angie was speeded up

  • @jaggermorrison2010 You could compare this to any other Rolling Stones song and notice the difference but Angie was around the same time this was supposedly recorded. Jagger's vocals on Angie are not speeded up, you can see he's singing it live on youtube and it's a slow song. There is no video of them singing Drift Away so there's no proof that it's actually them.

  • @jaggermorrison2010 Sorry, you're right, Angie was speeded up on the radio, I remember it. Just the youtube version isn't.

  • @Gwendolyne3 the stones cover of drift away is basically a studio rehearsal.demos their next album after "goats head soup" was planned to be one side of covers and the other live songs from the 1973 tour but that idea was scrapped and became "it's only rock and roll." so many other artists at the time were covering "drift away" that the stones decided not to bother going further with it.

  • @Gwendolyne3

This IS the Stones! Well, most of them anyway....... Keith didn't play on it. But that is definitely Mick singing, Mick Taylor on guitar, Bill & Charlie doing what they do best, and Nicky Hopkins on piano.

It's a damn crime this was never officially released.

  • @FORDCOUNTRY7885 How do you know Keith didnt play on it...he is listed as not playing on Moonlight Mile as well ..Doesnt mean he is not on it...There are two guitars on this...Guess your saying Mick played both of them. Mick could have overdubbed another Guitar this would explain why it wasn't released cause it cant be a Stones song without Keith being on it!

  • @MrJsmyers Keith wasn't present for many released Stones songs.Moonlight Mile's one,& several on some forgettable post"Only R & R" albums, according to liner notes. Also, true to form,Jagger/Richard credited themselves for M.Mile & "sway",penned by Jagger & Taylor,& Richard only sings (bg)on sway. Taylor is also the main git & creator of the rif on Honky tonk Woman. If Keith is there,he's the rhythm...He got much worse before he got better.Who knows what he played on from"Exile" thru"Only R&R".

  • @dragonflyshards Keith played the lead on Honky Tonk Women!,not Mick taylor..You cant always believe the Liner notes and Inner sleeves of records. being a Guitar player I can hear the difference between Keiths playing and Micks playing...the guitar riff on 'Drift Away' is definately Mick Taylor...If you notice, keiths playing is a little rougher than Taylors and has a more Chuck Berry/Bluesy feel to it than Mick Taylor..Mick Taylor would not have played Honky Tonk Women that basic like Keith did.

  • @dragonflyshards Keith was on this version dude...Keith was not present on the slow 1973 version sometimes called the beatles and Rolling Stones...I just looked this up...he was not on the slow version but is on this one and you can here the 2 guitars on this and you can only hear one on the slow version!

  • @FORDCOUNTRY7885 It seems to me no-one knows for sure who is actually on it because some think it's both the Beatles and the Stones. I know it's supposed to be a bootleg and maybe Mick Jagger is mucking around and adding a lisp to his voice but if they haven't confirmed it then it could just as well be a tribute band.

  • @Gwendolyne3 the beatles were broken up by this time.

  • @TheAtomicReagan I never thought it was the beatles (or the Rolling Stones).

  • @Gwendolyne3 You must have taken some good shit to think this is not The Rolling Stones.

  • @Gwendolyne3 This is The Rolling Stones....Plain and simple

  • its really nice song as it is but now that the rolling stones have covered it its even better!!!

  • killer. can't believe i've NEVER heard this before tonight.

  • I have the recording of this song over 20 years.... at this time it was very rare!!! today it isn't while people put it for everyone on the internet!!!

  • @999JumpingJack isn't that a good thing?

  • @999JumpingJack good old times when owning a record was enough to get u laid

  • what i need is an acurate tab on this.....

  • this is the best sounding recording ive heard of this song

  • @MyTrixxE WHAT KIND OF DRUGS ARE YOU ON!!! Have you never heard the original from Dobie Gray, you must be tone deaf or stoned deaf!!!

  • @Gforce543211 Not EVERYONE has the same opinion!

Are you on drugs to think that everyone has the same taste?

  • @imaStonesFan Who asked you to put your 2cents in our conversation - I'm a stones fan? I'm a Rolling Stones fan also, but I also like the Beatles, The Who, Journey, Genesis, and many, many others!!! I ain't tied down to 1 Group, I bet you believe the Stones can walk on water, Huh!!! There are plenty of Artists, out there and they sound great in their own musical way. THANK GOD for change!!! If we all sound the same and looked the same, the world would have come to a halt a long time ago!!!!!

  • @Gforce543211 i meant the quality of the sound, not the actual version of the song

  • @MyTrixxE Never heard this before! A great sounding track, even if it is a cover, the stones make it their own.

  • shit is priceless!

  • Why wouldn't they release that? The Stones should release all the cool covers they've got hidden away like this.

  • The reggae versions of this are the best

  • I had no idea the Stiones did this. is this the original or Doby Gray?

  • @shane1v Gray's version was first , the stones never released their version it's only on bootlegs.

  • @jaggermorrison2010 Gray's is a cover too. The song was originally recorded by John Henry Kurtz.

  • @evilemperordude it's been awhile since i posted that but i think i meant at the time that gray's version was done before the stones did theirs

  • @jaggermorrison2010 actually, the first version was John Henry Kurtz's from 1972 ^.^

  • @jaggermorrison2010 Gray's was a cover too

  • @shane1v oh cmon ,....dont know how old u r ..dobie did it first ,/.lp[; andbest

  • @shane1v The original recording of this song was done by John Henry Kurtz and is considered by some (myself included) to be the best version.

  • They "get it". They always have. Soul music speaks louder than words ever could. Thank you God for music.

  • wait so. . . someone actually gave this a thumbs down? Justin beiver trolling YouTube cause hes jealous?

  • @DoesUsernameGoHere Why do you have to bring that faggot into this? I don't care if you like or hate him. What you need to do is shut the fuck up and go troll his videos you fucking queer. You and everyone who don't know how to actually comment on the video itself and only try to get thumbs up. GFY

  • @UKRod it was meant to be on the "it's only rock & roll" album but was shelved after learning that rod stewart was releasing a version of it around the same time.

  • @jaggermorrison2010 so did someone write the song but not sing it and they were gonna adopt it.

  • @SuperScguy i forget who wrote it but i think even the famous dodie gray version is a cover as well

  • Wow. I've never heard this cover before. Cool. Its different but I like it.
