indeed .. violas are larger than violins and they are comparable to the alto voice in range ... have low C string whereas fiddles/violins have a high E string.
@Vintexen I am a musician, but I don't usually get more specific than treble and bass. I'm still learning, plus everything I write is for piano or electric guitar.
@JTNickelz No, the viola is primarily in alto clef and some treble clef. Never bass clef. The cello is written in bass clef (and some tenor clef and treble at times too). Viola, however, is definitely in alto clef - it's even called 'le violon alto' in French.
Great!

are the violin and fiddle different instruments or is the fiddle just a nickname for the violin?
giantsboy96 3 years ago
They are the same, It's called a fiddle if it is used for country or folk music.

well a violin and a viola are diffrent, violas are smaller than violins. the only diffrence between a viola and a fiddle is who is playing it. lol

Not even close. The violin is treble, viola is bass, fiddle is another name for violin.
Size: Violin < Viola, Violin = Fiddle
Instruments: Violin /= Viola, Violin = Fiddle
