@Noraowolf1 Nightfall and Factions are standalone however Eye of The North is an expansion (the only one) and requires the previous titles. - however you do kind of "need" to get all the campaigns if you want to end up playing competative as some camps. offer better skills then the other.

@capajc The Origninal campaign (Prophecies) is pretty cheap, with an EASY to reach level cap of 20. After you hit that you can mess around in PvP or PvE instances for fun, with no monthly fees. Neither a huge investment of time or money, just having fun till Guild Wars 2 comes out (which will be AMAZING!!!!)

@strider3283 nope all your old characters are gone its starting completely new. Considering its set 250 years in the future it makes sense. If you have Eye of the North all your achievements get stored in your hall of monuments and they give you exclusive items and stuff when GW2 comes out.

Guildwars is all about gathering skills as opposed to collecting "gear"

It's the skills or techniques that you can change up on the fly to suit whatever situation is ahead of you. It's fast paced. The pve is more like final fantasy, but each quest follows a flowing story. You wont have tons of "bring me 10 widgets, or kill me 10 bandits and bring me bandanas" quests. It's a wonderful game in every way and to compare this to other games is retarded. It's original and by itself just fine.

and an expansion, such as Nightfall, Factions, or Eye of The North.
