men beating their women spouses. how cute. homosexual teenagers getting pushed into traintracks. keeping it simple. if you right-wing hate-preachers can answer me this question, i will be content. before you were born, did you choose to be white or black or asian? did you choose to be heterosexual? did you choose to be born at all? i did not choose to be of pure white heritage, nor did i choose to be straight. i didn't even choose my haircolor. think about it, and maybe you'll be human again.
So, you're protecting freedoms by taking something away from someone else? I didn't know gay people made others join their religion when they got married. I guess you learn something new everyday.
Maybe we should take the freedom away from fat people too! Fat = glutony is a sin to God, and socially it's disgusting too. Ask how many people don't like fat people, I mean, yeah, they don't hurt other people, but they're teaching our kids that being fat it's okay... no no no!
Jesus spent time with the lepers, prostitutes, and other people deemed unworthy. His point was that he welcomed all into his kingdom. But lately people have lost his message. They sit on their pedestals of "morality" and judge others. They demonize people that they do not feel comfortable with. They make judgments on people that they have spent little time around. Do you even know a gay couple? Or are they simply "those people" to you. Exclude others. But Jesus still not exclude you regardless.
Also realize that at a time in the past Christians were persecuted as well. Now that you have achieved power and influence, you forget your message of tolerance. You may quote the Bible to foster your agenda. But I believe in a God of love - who does not exclude others and persecute them for being gay. We are all the products of God's creation. To devalue any of his children is a direct devaluation of God creations. This is far more sinful than homosexuality and spits on God's work.
That's the myth. Gays aren't seeking equality to change your faith, marriage, or religious freedom. We only seek equality. I was rejected by the Catholic faith and have left long ago. To this day, I support their freedoms - freedom to preach that I am a sinner. Because I realize along with their freedom, I should be granted my freedom - the freedom to marry. I see the threat of living in a society that abuses it's power to curb freedoms - whether the majority or the minority.
It should not be about religion. Religion should not be the end-all-be-all of the law, unless you forbid any foreigners and their religion to enter the state of CA. Not everyone is christian, therefore not everyone should HAVE to adhere to christian morals (laws).
As Californians, it isn't about Religion -- we don't all have the same faith or beliefs. For California citizens, its about the majority of voters reaffirming marriage is between a man and a woman. 27 states already have this same amendment. The people spoke in 2000. Now they will put it to an amendment.
I agree! Thanks for understanding that Prop 8 is about protecting churches from being attacked by those whose lifestyle does not align with their teachings.
i am so glad prop 8 will be overturned

0:10 Unless your family has two men or women as the heads of household
0:14 If your against gay marriage because of your religion, don't do it.

being gay or not being gay is primarily a moral/religious issue.
in a country that purports to be under a secular rule of law this should not be an issue.
if you do not agree with gay marriage...dont get one!
your (or mine, if I had any) religious views are private and are not to be forced, by law or convention on any one outside your own skin.
to sum up.
keep your fucking religious views out of my constitution you fucking narrow minded bigots!
just shut the fuck up!
