They arent actually pedaling that fast. It's probably a balance exercise. They're riding fixed gear bikes, so how fast your back wheel goes is how fast the crank goes, and consequentially how fast your legs go, even if it's not you doing the work. On that sort of machine, the roller will gain momentum and keep spinning the back wheel, so it really isn't hard to look like you're pedaling like some kind of robot. In fact the ones they're on may be motorized.
