I was reading the comments and i read people say they have to get skinny for this. This women is one of the skinnier belly dancers but most weigh between 140-165. Belly dancing was and art for women with curves, Im at the weight of 145 and i belly dance and i seem to tiny for it. Look up real belly dancers and you'll see the dance get more beautiful with more weight added.

you're supposed to use your abs to lift your hip. and use your knees as well. your hips raising is just the result of the dance. you're not supposed to focus on the hips because it's belly dancing instead of polynesian. i have a hard time with this cause i learned polynesian before belly dance, but you'll get it eventually.

Its easy just try this like 15 mins a day and eventually they will loosen, I had to do it to learn how to dance Bachata, my Family said, "Girl, your Dominican, you better learn it" lol And I did, I loosened my hips by everyday in the mirrior but dropping and moving them all around.Hope I helped.
