Wow Anna, Great job with this little video montage. Remedios Varo was indeed a talented artist with a powerfully magical mind. As I watch these images I think of Leonora Carrington and how she must sorely miss her dear friend. Remedios left way too soon.

Anna, I also love your choice of music. Where I grew up many neighborhood girls had a crush on Tommy. Little did we know that he was not only adorable, but quite talented... some people get all the luck.

Very surreal!! I think she formed part of the Mexican 'salon'. She knew Leonara Carrington (if you like Varo you should at least take a look at Carringtons works) and also Frieda Kahlo.

I'm so entranced by this artwork. I feel like I could look at it for eternity and still not be able to crack the secrets. I think that because my mother died when I was so young that these images resonate with me. I get goosebumps looking at it. Its so magical and so powerful and it really shows complex human emotions at their most hidden place...the soul.

I believe that Remedios Varo is 100% the equal of Dalí and Magritte - her surrealist vision as well as her painting skills. Why she's never gotten the recognition she deserves I'll never understand. A damned shame!!

@fizzpap I have always felt she is far better than Dali. Unfortunately throughout Art History and many other facets in history, women of great accomplishment have been excluded from the history books... Thankfully not all have been lost entirely.

@fizzpap As well.. I was surprised when friends of mine were not taught anything by her during their surrealist learnings at OCA (now OCAD)... I went into the OCA library and there was not one book on Remedios Varo. Very disappointing.. Hopefully they have since fixed this error.

Remedios Varo was born after her family lost a dauther and that is why they named her "remedios" as a "remedy" for their pain, therefore she felt that she never had a place in her family but came to replace a lost dauther, that is why most of ther paintings are selfportraits and reflect all her moods and inner thougths, she is magical, one of my favourites by far !
