He's still performing and he's amazing!!! He and Dick Gregory are coming to Lakeshore Theater in April! I can't wait...the tickets went on sale already!!!!
I guess when there's nothing better at the time this just seems funny. I couldn't imagine comparing the older comedians to today's comedians. imo comedy evolves and this type of comedy is just cliche and boring. I guess people hold on to the idea that you have to idolize the pioneers.
i guess when there's nothing better at the time you watch videos of original comedians and post the same comment over and over til you get a rise out of someone who appreciates past sentiments. just seems like a good idea i guess.
Perhaps it's a little subtle for you. Sahl all but invented the next generation--woody allen, george carlin, bill cosby (to some extent) and THEY invented everyone to follow--from Richard Pryor to Bill Maher to Conan O'Brien. Sahl's stuff is just over your head. I'll find a website specializing in doo-doo jokes and post it for you to chuckle over as you drink Budweiser and cheer on your local sports team. Don't get hit by a truck!
Damn straight Mort Sahl is one of the greatest comedians in the world. In his heyday, Mort was not afraid to take potshots at whoever was in charge. Schmucks like Bill Maher and Al Franken could learn a thing or two from the master.
No one could ever compare with Mort! The only one to even come CLOSE to him is Bill Maher. I don't know why Mort ever stopped appearing, but I think even today he would be the funniest, most biting commenter on the insanities of the world today. BRING BACK MORT SAHL! Are there NO other videos of him? . . . jenny
I'll never think of Mort Sahl without remembering how he said the Unitarians were sort of a laidback religion, that they studied the Ten Suggestions and stuff like that.
god on you for putting some Mort Sahl on here, but you've managed to find possibly his worst bit. one decent punchline at the end! let's hear some more, better stuff.
I met Mort Sahl once. I was proud to meet him in Chicago at Steppenwolf. I am hopeful to keep his fight going as we go into the war zone with Islam over our designs to conquer the world with debt, defeat and attrition. AKA Exhaustion.
A brilliant and witty guy who had a show that explored the Kennedy assassination and the Warren commission report. He paid a big price for his search for truth. He was a great role model for all people who aspire ot be a good citizen.

There is no one like him around today when we really need
such commentary from comedians. Does anyone carry
around a rolled up newspaper that he has read?
