dc never release coz dc was too slow lack of vram and poor geometry chip compare to doubled model 3 board in scud race, seen demo scud race on dc looks awful 1/2 effects and lest tahan 30fps
Daytona USA 2 MIGHT have a chance at a port now that Sega managed to get the license back but I think this game may be lost to the ages, which is a dang shame.
Please... Most Xbox Noobs won't even care about it. I do know that I will definitely buy it. As long as it shows up for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 somehow, this cult hit will prevail... As long as Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing doesn't suck (if it's a hit, SEGA might start doing more racing games, and less Sonic).
i agree i remember this game cos i worked in an arcade it was really popular the DC might not have fell on its ass if the bosses at sega just gave gamers what they wanted
The Dreamcast version would have been scaled-down graphically but they could have kept the gameplay intact. There is nothing on the Dreamcast that manages this much geometry and effects though. They probably would have had to lower the frame rate to 30fps or take out some detail, and there's no way the 3x FSAA would have made the translation. Still, the fact that this wasn't even attempted is more proof that late 90s SEGA didn't have a clue as to what we wanted.
Scud is a model 3 arcade game and i think the dc could easily handle this game as it is a scale down naomi board [or the other way around cause naomi was build based on the dc]
The Naomi was based on the DC, and is unrelated to the Model 3. The DC/Naomi's 3D acceleration was handled by NEC's PowerVR 2 chip, a VERY good PC card in its day. The Model 3 used Lockheed-Marietta's Real 3D technology. Theoretically, the DC and Naomi could handle more polygons per second, but in an actual game with AI, lighting, textures, anti-aliasing and other effects, the Model 3 was the better performer. The Model 2 and 3 boards were essentially high-end simulators for the arcade.
Videos of this demo are easily found on youtube, or should we say "researched." And upon viewing them, one can see that they are far from "perfect." One segment depicts two light-sourced cars running on a flat viaduct with no background at 30fps. The other is a camera pan of the Beginner Day course, which features lots of draw-in and no cars at all. These were done on an early DC development kit and were probably not pushing anywhere near as many polygons as Model 3.
@tomleecee IIRC a tech demo of Scud Race was one of the first Dreamcast appearances, but it was only meant to be a proof-of-concept for the Dreamcast handling Model 3 games. This would later be implemented in the DC port of Virtua Fighter 3tb.
do you ahve an optimized version of mame.119.. the ones that i seen online for some reason will not use the multithreading to utilize my other cores.. any tips or even the binary version of mame that you have with the config file.. (no need for the roms)

The dreamcast version didnt came out because the rights to make an in-game some of those sponsored cars expired.
im waiting for some mame emulation -discret. not like now- i guess i´ll wait two or three years more.

Sega created a tech demo, and showed it behind closed door, which had scud race running on dc perfectly.
Do your research.

They could have subtlely re-styled the cars or renamed them like in Grand Theft Auto.

Why would you want MAME to emulate it - it'd need a supercomputer. You want a dedicated emulator that does just the job.

More awesome-ness from Sega! and another game which was never properly released, a real shame. It must be cool to have this on tap :0)
