  • can you please tell me how i can connect it with my pc??

  • @ShazoPunisher For sending files - connect over the network via its IP.

For playing back stuff - you can't.

  • Nice review, good job. You covered it all!

  • I think the covers don't show in the folders view because the cover art is associated with the file, and not the folder.

  • If you have this on your Ethernet network can you access it from your pc and copy files to/from it just over the Ethernet without having to connect it to the pc manually??

Any help would be much appreciated

And thanks for the great review, just what I needed really comprehensive!!

  • @bazm013 Of course. It's just a LAN storage device.

  • comprehensive.

  • There should have been a mouth drawn on his hand. :)

  • Pretty smart/quality review! Any idea if I'd buy the previous version WD live Tv HD, it would also be able to play .ISO?

  • @djprotone I don't remember if it did or not. I would think so, but not sure.

  • have you experienced any shuttering when playing 1080p mkv files using ethernet connection ? and does it suport subtitles that are built-in inside mkv ? and Thanks for the great review .

  • @MustakillahFan Ethernet can handle 1080p MKV just fine. Subtitles are also supported. Use it for various animé including Valkyria Chronicles.

  • @mistermarcusgmail that's what I needed to hear :D I'm definitely buying it soon . Thanks a lot .

  • because i happen to be on a mac has nothing to do with Steve Jobs being

    anti - blu-ray. = )

  • @eyeonthedesign2 It does if you intend to find a competent Mac program capable of doing what you ask.

  • If you want the extras, MKV isn't the best option. You really should consider ISO. MKV is when you care about the video and nothing else.

Can't help as far as Mac programs. As you know, Steve Jobs is anti-Blu-ray.

  • This device is exactly what i am looking for. I have a few questions. I want to convert my entire blu-ray library to go onto an external USB media drive. (preferably a NAS drive 4tb). What do you think?

To obtain the best picture quality, 1080p should i convert to MKV? What program should I use to convert my blu-ray movies? I am on a MAC.

I have many standalone blu-ray movies and episodic tv content. Some of the moves i'd like to keep the extra features as well. Any advice would help!

  • Help me to configure to content from a network share it ask me for user name and password please help on the minute 9:30

  • @damelos You would have had to set a user name and password on your share device, so give them to the Hub. If you don't remember...can't help you.

  • hi, i'm looking to stream LIVE video and audio from my Sky+ or DVD/VHS player on the net to my PS3 or XBOX 360, does it have the ability to do that?

  • @markhorneyuk No. You need a computer + XBMC or some other media center type of device.

  • That's just useless, i thought i can transfer data through a USB where there is a REAL internal 1 TB hard disc inside that crap, not a NETWORK internal whatsoever crap!!

  • @linkinway Not sure what you're ranting about. There IS a drive inside. But why would you want to connect a USB drive to a device to send it to an internal drive? What's the purpose? Why not just attach the drive and stream it from there?

  • can the interal hard drive be upgraded to a larger size? say 2 or 3 TB?

  • @Jamison42166 maybe, not sure. Probably not as I believe the hardware also stores the actual UI elements.

  • you sound like Tom Hanks :-)

  • can i use iso files on wd live hud also how to put covers on them?

  • @gmprime7 ISO files are normally used for data disks. You can try, I think they're supported. All of my stuff is in specific movie formats.

  • @gmprime7 Confirmed that standard ISO does work as well. Cover art is just putting folder.jpg in the folder where the movie is. They only show (As talked about in the video) in video mode, not folder mode.

  • Hey correct me If I wrong You would get same quality over Component as well. It is just analogue. It plays 1080p without any issue. Thats all.HDMI is digital and for copy protection.

  • @SouthFacedWindows It's not the same quality. HDMI produces a substantially superior picture. Additionally, one HDMI cable handles both digital audio and video rather than stringing a bunch of cables out. HDMI is vastly superior to Component in every way that matters. For a TV equipped with both there is no logical reason to choose Component over HDMI, quite frankly.

  • thanks for the review

  • can the attached storage devices be streamed to other devices as well or is it just the 1TB internal that can be streamed to other devices?

  • @Semzable It can stream anything that it's aware of, whether physically or via the network.

  • @mistermarcusgmail sweet, thanks man :)

  • Great detailed review. Thanks

  • Hey you were right it was some sort of coding problem, i used the same program that i used to rip the videos "vidcoder" i still made it an mp4 but instead of using the h.264 codec, i used the mpeg4 codec and now it works perfectly!!!! Thanks so much! Maybe u should see if people would like a tutorial about the limitations and ways around this device?

  • Hey There, I bought the box, it was great but it wasnt perfect. Theres a major setback that is forcing me to return it.....the karaoke videos that i ripped from the karaoke dvds went beserk.... I encoded them to have dual audio, with + without the singer, when i switch the audio, the video just speeds up suddenly as if being fowarded and is out of sync with the audio......my files are mp4 formatted...any ideas?

  • @VietYa09 Sounds like bad encoding. Try MKV. Google Search for a program called MakeMKV and try that instead. Beyond that I can't help you, as I don't deal with karaoke DVDs.

  • Thanx for all your help, i'm gonna go to best buy to get it tomorrow :)

  • and i'm just confirming it can search media on an external hard drive that i plug in via usb correct?

  • @VietYa09 External hard drives are supported. Which was stated in the video, I believe.

  • THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP!!! Just one more thing, u said that the search function is there, so can i type with a usb keyboard or can i just use the remote only. Sorry for so many questions

  • @VietYa09 USB keyboards are supported.

  • SOrry i had one more question about whether it can play DVD iso files, I rip dvd's into iso file and my seagate was able to play it with the menu options regardless of whether it was copyright protected or not, can this do the same?

  • @VietYa09 It will play DVD isos with menus, but I don't know about copyright protected. If it's an ISO file there should no longer be any protection.

  • Also, does it have a search function where I can type the name of the file I'm looking for using the keyboard. And if so, am I able to make it specific where i can for example, search through the "Movies" folder that I made in my hard drive. I ask this because i use a media player made by seagate as an all in one karaoke. and i have make alphabetical folders to find the songs easier, i want to be able to go in the "A" folder i made and then type the name of that karaoke video to play

  • @VietYa09 Search feature is there, yes.

  • Hi there, i just had a few questions.

    1. When it reads my external hard drive that I plug in via usb, will the folders be organized like how I did it in my computer ex: like in my root menu I have 3 folders "Music", "Movies", and "Karaoke". Will it present those folders to me and give me the option to browse through those folders for my media, or does it just put all the video in one place and all the music in another? my other question is in the post below

  • @VietYa09 No, it retains the folder structure. You will need to change the view to Folder View to navigate, but yes, it will keep the structure.

  • Thank you for the review. FYI, you sound like Tom Hanks, A LOT! :)
