  • Good tune! Never heard it. Sounds like their older stuff!

  • Thank you for putting this together. This song is very hard to find.

  • This is a lovely tribute; thanks.

  • This song is a b-side of Why Can't I Have You.

  • this awesome but you cant buy it anywhere

  • DID I HEAR LOU REED?

  • I'm not sure how much time you spent putting this together.

But I hope you realize it was worth your effort.

May you continue to be inspired to use your creativity! You have a gift that uplifts us all.

  • @IVatworky Thankyou for the support, I admit I have not really started working on anotherone since I put this together but I guess work and everything else has kind of interfered with that. I'm hoping to start working on another one soon but we'll see. No promises.

  • I have great memories of listening to The Cars back on May 20, 2011 in Toronto.

  • I have many great memories listening to The Cars back in the 80s

  • THIS IS SO PERFECT_THIS GUY NEEDS TO BE IN HOLLYWOOD>>>ITS THAT GOOD

  • Nice Job!

  • This is a fabulous rare Cars song, It was the B-side of "Tonight she comes" single.

It is only available on "The Cars ANTHOLOGY" 2-disc set. It it my FAV-O-RITE! song by The Cars!!!

  • @akabaka99 this is NOW one of my favorites - my best is Dream Away then Panorama:D u da best!!

  • why was this song breakaway and shooting for you left of 1984 Heartbeat City album

  • And just to think that the people in this video, and the band members themselves, are now in their fifties. Oh, I guess I am also.

  • Nice job!

  • Thanks!!!! I will go out and get it. It is worth it for just "Break Away."

  • Does anyone know where I can find the super rare track: "Shooting for You" ?

  • @RockJunkie04 I've looked for the "Shooting for You" track myself, even in the UK where I heard it was allegedly on the British release of Heartbeat City, but alas without success. As the story goes, for some unknown reason it was pulled from the album by Elektra Records just before it went to press back in 1984. As far as I know, the song has been buried.

  • AWesome...thanx so much

  • WFNX used to play this B-side of "Tonight She Comes" (as I recall) alot....back in the day

  • I wish there were more videos of the Cars and does anyone know where one can get DVD's of live videos by the Cars ir at their concerts ?? Thanks.. Keep posting this awesome stuff...

  • @elprado1963 try the CARS unlocked and there is another too , try Amazon or Best buy

  • very well done!

  • I remember this song from early 1985....someone was playing the song!!!! I haven't heard it since!!! Was it released on anything??? I would love to get it!!1

  • @LCRV1 Its on THECARS Anthology , other rare tracks on there , its the big blue double disk. Youll like it, Dont Go to Pieces is on there and a few other rarities but not Shooting for You

  • Same chord progression as "Take it on the run"

  • This was too much Rick Ocasek. Sound like his solo album, Beattitude. Prob why it was left off the Heart Beat City Album

  • @1967elgalindo great point...theres nothing to grab onto in this song if you know what i mean

  • i like it just because ben orr is a good guitar player

  • @555foxylady Actually Ben played the Bass

  • Nice work here BSP! Man, I miss Ben and the guys. What a gift Ben was to all of us. Seemed effortless for them to make a sound so unique and pleasing to the soul.

  • you can also find this on the UK 12'" Tonight She Comes single, along with that song, and Just What I Needed

  • I love how they're riding the bar of soap.amazing song :)

  • hola

  • Did this ever make it onto any compilation CD's, and if not, what song was this the B-side of?

  • This song was the B-Side to "Why Can't I Have You" from Heartbeat City

  • Oh and you can find it on the Rhino Records 2-CD set called: Just What I Needed: The Cars Anthology

  • can any body tell me what all the video are i like to see them all

  • ya se de donde soda stereo tiene influensia buenas las dos

  • Yeahhh; smoothhhahhh!

  • Great great job on this! I had been trying to think of some of the lyrics in this song-and couldn't find the song it was in-I was starting to think I had imagined it all. Thanks so much!

  • "Breakaway" (from the Heartbeat City sessions), a great song and Idk why it was left off, along with "Shooting for You".

  • I'm Intrigued, whats this "Shooting for You" track that you are refering to? I've never heard of it.

  • @TheBSPolice "Shooting For You" was originally recorded for "Heartbeat City" but for some unknown reason Elektra Records pulled the song from it just before it went to print. I had heard that the song survived on sone imports, but I've never been able to find it.

  • @TheBSPolice Did some research and guess what? The "Shooting for You" track got pressed into the UK

    edition!

  • @dcmichael86 More importantly, where did YOU FIND THIS?? I just ran a Google and could not find anything.. BTW: Thanks for posting this!

  • @dontillman it was available on amazon.uk check there.

  • Great video, I thought it was an actual music video until I read your info. :D Great job!

  • BSP - You are a true genius, I so enjoyed this vid. Love the song, love the visuals. You rock!

  • Looking for Ben Orr fans to join our video page and our exclusive, Private by invitation only group. See our page for details on how to join!

  • What video was it on 2:55-3:00?

  • That is from "Hello Again".

  • The Cars were the first band I really got into and i'm only 19 so the original lineup brokeup before I was born :-(

  • Samething with me. I got into them a few years ago when I was 17. I wish I could have seen the original lineup live aswell.

  • @TheBSPolice gee i saw them so many times..they sounded great live but didnt run around or anything..when your really into a bands music, its the music that counts during a performance..i always loved VH with DLR. one of my alltime favs but in concert they didnt always sound the greatest

  • @TheBSPolice the Cars played their tunes live exactly as you heard them on cd. I prefer this compared to artists changing their hits drastically just cuz they are bored playing them. Cars kicked ass.

  • @CenobiteVictim You may only be 19 but you have an excellent taste in good music. Really wish you could have experienced The Cars throughout their career. Back then their music was so fresh and a precedent of things to come in the 80's. I graduated High School in 1980, so I more or less grew up listening to them. To me, their music will always be timeless.

  • @DallasaDanny Yeah, Devo and The Cars were really that first wave of "New Wave" bands. Elvis Costello had the style, but he really never had those spaceship-sounding synthesizers. I've always loved new wave music. One of the bands that was almost forgotten is Missing Persons.

  • @CenobiteVictim Funny you should mention Missing Persons. I saw them live in Dallas back when they were touring for their Spring Session M album. Another band I listened to back in the mid to late 70's was Kraftwerk. In come circles, they are considered the grandfathers of techno.

  • @DallasaDanny yeah, Kraftwerk are definitely the grandfathers of techno and their synthesizer sounds must have had some influence on new wave bands, especially the keyboardists. It's a shame that bands and celebrities today ripoff new wave icons left and right with their style, but seem to give no credit where deserved.

  • Which is the video with the car and people running, 3:01-3:03

  • That's from the video for Panorama, the title track of their third album. Great song, great album! ;)

  • KOOL MAN GOOD SONG

  • I like it BSP.Its fresh from whats been around.Good soong,good co-footage.many thanks.

  • Excellent job, I love it! I never realized how many of their music videos I've never seen. For which song is the one at 3:28?

  • It's from the "You Are The Girl: music video.

  • Love it! Good job with this montage.

I have almost their entire catalogue on video ... of course we aren't allowed to upload their original videos here which bites big time.

  • You can tell you love the cars brother!!

  • The scenes in the desert (where do those come from?) remind me of "Vertigo" by U2 a few years ago. Did they copy the cars by chance?

  • Those scenes are from The Cars' video for Strap Me In.

Scenes like that have been used in movies, videos and TV shows for years.

It's a great scene, but not exactly original to The Cars.

  • Hey thanks, I never knew that!

  • Love Ben's vette!

  • I want this song.

  • Great montage!!! I Love it-from a 30 year CARS fan-awesome job and thank you!!!

  • me too!!!!

    nic eoging

    !!!

    whoooowohooohoooo

  • I've been searching for this song for 20 years....I have it on a cassette, taped from an FM station and KNOWING it sounded like The Cars but never being able to track it down. Thanks to this video, I just ordered The Cars Anthology off Amazon and will finally have this song on cd. Thanks!!!

  • Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the club they're playing in at the beginning of the video is The Rat, in Boston, around '78 or '79.

I love 3:07-3:10, when The Cars are riding on the carousel behind Ric. Classic!

  • Such an eccentric sound. Maybe that's why it wasn't one of their more popular singles. I like though. I like it quite a bit.

  • it was the b-side non album track of Why Can't I have You.

  • OOOOOOOOOOOOohhhh. One of my favorites!!!!!!!!

  • Oh persian dreams and china white.

  • this song is really interesting. i wish they offered it on iTunes so i could download it.

  • This is a really underrated b-side song by the Cars, I like how they ventured from their New Wave/power-pop sound to a more Synth-Pop sound in this song sound, like Human League, Depeche Mode etc. My favorite aspect of the cars sound was their use of synths/keyboards. However Elliot Easton is a great guitarist despite the synths.

  • this song is great....never heard it before....wicked!!

  • Where is this song from????? :(

  • It's from The Cars Anthology.

  • thanks :)

  • Breakaway was a b-side release in 1984 on a 45. The a-side was Why Can't I have You.

  • I KNEW IT! It sounds great! That's why it's from 1984 to me!!!

  • congratulations on a very well executed labor of love -- of a song that i happen also to love... AND it inspires me to put together in the spirit of love, and in my forte genre, the written word, something that's just as well-calibrated, and send it to ric as an overture fan appeal for him to initiate and lead a creative reunion with greg, elliot and david... there's a tremendous back stock of ric's solo pieces since 87 on many of which elliot's lead/solo contribution would turn into true hits

  • Great effort ... thanks much ! Ooohhh for the Roy Thomas Baker days ....

  • Great job on this tribute to one of the greatest rocknroll bands ever! Thanks so much for taking time putting it together. It means a lot to us Cars fans!

  • Beautifuly done. We have it featured at our Benjamin Orr Photo group at Yahoo! We also have agreat Benjamin Orr tribute page here at myspace!

  • This is awesome!! where did you get all those nice clips? Thanks for putting this up:)

  • I've been in love with this song since it first came out... B side of Why Can't I have You - still don't know why it wasn't released as an A! My favorite song by my favorite band and a bitchin'ly excellent homemade vid with lots of cuts of my favorite man!!!! This is excellent!!!!!

  • dude!awesome!just awesome! could you do another for "don't go to pieces" and/or "that's it"?

  • I will someday do one for Don't Go To pieces, but right now things are jsut to busy at the moment to make any sort of video unfortinatly.

I'm glad everyone is enjoying this video though.

  • Great Video!

I never heard this song in a while.
