@IVatworky Thankyou for the support, I admit I have not really started working on anotherone since I put this together but I guess work and everything else has kind of interfered with that. I'm hoping to start working on another one soon but we'll see. No promises.
@RockJunkie04 I've looked for the "Shooting for You" track myself, even in the UK where I heard it was allegedly on the British release of Heartbeat City, but alas without success. As the story goes, for some unknown reason it was pulled from the album by Elektra Records just before it went to press back in 1984. As far as I know, the song has been buried.
I wish there were more videos of the Cars and does anyone know where one can get DVD's of live videos by the Cars ir at their concerts ?? Thanks.. Keep posting this awesome stuff...
I remember this song from early 1985....someone was playing the song!!!! I haven't heard it since!!! Was it released on anything??? I would love to get it!!1
@LCRV1 Its on THECARS Anthology , other rare tracks on there , its the big blue double disk. Youll like it, Dont Go to Pieces is on there and a few other rarities but not Shooting for You
Nice work here BSP! Man, I miss Ben and the guys. What a gift Ben was to all of us. Seemed effortless for them to make a sound so unique and pleasing to the soul.
Great great job on this! I had been trying to think of some of the lyrics in this song-and couldn't find the song it was in-I was starting to think I had imagined it all. Thanks so much!
@TheBSPolice "Shooting For You" was originally recorded for "Heartbeat City" but for some unknown reason Elektra Records pulled the song from it just before it went to print. I had heard that the song survived on sone imports, but I've never been able to find it.
@TheBSPolice gee i saw them so many times..they sounded great live but didnt run around or anything..when your really into a bands music, its the music that counts during a performance..i always loved VH with DLR. one of my alltime favs but in concert they didnt always sound the greatest
@TheBSPolice the Cars played their tunes live exactly as you heard them on cd. I prefer this compared to artists changing their hits drastically just cuz they are bored playing them. Cars kicked ass.
@CenobiteVictim You may only be 19 but you have an excellent taste in good music. Really wish you could have experienced The Cars throughout their career. Back then their music was so fresh and a precedent of things to come in the 80's. I graduated High School in 1980, so I more or less grew up listening to them. To me, their music will always be timeless.
@DallasaDanny Yeah, Devo and The Cars were really that first wave of "New Wave" bands. Elvis Costello had the style, but he really never had those spaceship-sounding synthesizers. I've always loved new wave music. One of the bands that was almost forgotten is Missing Persons.
@CenobiteVictim Funny you should mention Missing Persons. I saw them live in Dallas back when they were touring for their Spring Session M album. Another band I listened to back in the mid to late 70's was Kraftwerk. In come circles, they are considered the grandfathers of techno.
@DallasaDanny yeah, Kraftwerk are definitely the grandfathers of techno and their synthesizer sounds must have had some influence on new wave bands, especially the keyboardists. It's a shame that bands and celebrities today ripoff new wave icons left and right with their style, but seem to give no credit where deserved.
I've been searching for this song for 20 years....I have it on a cassette, taped from an FM station and KNOWING it sounded like The Cars but never being able to track it down. Thanks to this video, I just ordered The Cars Anthology off Amazon and will finally have this song on cd. Thanks!!!
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the club they're playing in at the beginning of the video is The Rat, in Boston, around '78 or '79.
I love 3:07-3:10, when The Cars are riding on the carousel behind Ric. Classic!
This is a really underrated b-side song by the Cars, I like how they ventured from their New Wave/power-pop sound to a more Synth-Pop sound in this song sound, like Human League, Depeche Mode etc. My favorite aspect of the cars sound was their use of synths/keyboards. However Elliot Easton is a great guitarist despite the synths.
congratulations on a very well executed labor of love -- of a song that i happen also to love... AND it inspires me to put together in the spirit of love, and in my forte genre, the written word, something that's just as well-calibrated, and send it to ric as an overture fan appeal for him to initiate and lead a creative reunion with greg, elliot and david... there's a tremendous back stock of ric's solo pieces since 87 on many of which elliot's lead/solo contribution would turn into true hits
Great job on this tribute to one of the greatest rocknroll bands ever! Thanks so much for taking time putting it together. It means a lot to us Cars fans!
I've been in love with this song since it first came out... B side of Why Can't I have You - still don't know why it wasn't released as an A! My favorite song by my favorite band and a bitchin'ly excellent homemade vid with lots of cuts of my favorite man!!!! This is excellent!!!!!

Those scenes are from The Cars' video for Strap Me In.
Scenes like that have been used in movies, videos and TV shows for years.
