Oh come on, Hardeep goes on radio to push book, then refuses to talk to the presenter when asked "you’re on here to plug this book?". Perhaps asking him about Asian British Scottish was a way for Hardeep to talk about his ethic origins and why he was writing the book on Indian cuisine. As for racist the presenter never spoke derogatively to Hardeep, infact Hardeep introduced a racist stereotype on his second answer,if he had spoken about his book it wouldn't be #2,537,818 in the charts.

i am studying radio broadcasting and we listend to that today in class, Les Ross made a fuck up of that interview clearly he had not pre prepared his notes for the interview or had any sort or brief to back up on Hardeep Singh Kohli, clearly mr Hardeep was annoyed at his inability to ask proper questions....proper broadcaster fail there !

Just been to see this guy live and it was the worst comedy event I have ever seen and I have seen a lot after spending two weeks at the Edinburgh Festival this year. In fact it really should not have been advertised as comedy. He cooked a curry and talked about how great a cook his mum was. A few people left as bored and he shouted abuse at them as they left to put others off going. Rude, ignorant and simply not funny.

Les Ross MBE, 3 Sony Awards (inc. Lifetime Achievement), had a locomotive named after him (which he now owns), and beat Johnny Walker (from Radio 2) in a radio "competition" at the age of 17. Still on the radio at nearly 60.

Hardeep Singh Kohli, third in elections to become rector of Glasgow, got fired from Celebrity Apprentice, finished 2nd in Masterchef and a bad reputation as a landlord (apparently).

The problem here is not with Les. BBC WM get Les to interview people. As Les himself says, he's useless at it. Les is brilliant on the radio by himself, he doesn't need to interview people to pull in listeners. Interviews that he does give always follow this format. He talks about someone's background, and then does the "mercilessly plug" joke, and then moves on. Also, he chose to broadcast this - it was recorded before the show. Hardeep came out of it badly. Les sounded like he always sounds...

Les is the first to admit that he is a terrible interviewer. He really proves it with this one, but this is part of the show. Les's show is so light-hearted that nothing on it could ever be taken seriously. This is why it's such a good show. A real Alan Partridge on the radio! Keep it up Les!

Les never takes himself seriously. He frequently jokes that he doesn't have a proper job, for instance. All his interviews take this format - and the interviewees take it light-heartedly. I think he misjudged Kohli's character on this one though. Les knew it was a book (listen at the start when he says so), but by bringing in The ONE Show being on TV, and sensing he was making a bit of a mess of it, he got confused I think.
