  • Lee is so ugly and weird looking...i've never liked her as a woman..she looks like a drag queen.

    BUT!!!!!.....

i do like her as an actress..she was brilliant in Valley Of The Dolls.

  • @ValleyOfTheDolls67 what a horrible thing to say...you must be jealous and I question what your face looks like since you do not see the beauty in Lee Grant.

  • Is that Susan Sarrandon???

  • Lee was good, but she was blown away by both Lily and Ronee that year.

  • She deserved this Oscar.......she is a very brilliant actress.

  • Comment removed

  • My God, look how loaded Sylvia Miles is!

  • Lily Tomlin deserved this Oscar ALL THE WAY!! SO nice to see the late, great

Madeline Kahn in this clip. She also deserved to win an Oscar for PAPER MOON,

    not Tatum.

  • @JOJO22858 Madeline Kahn was of course brilliant in Paper Moon, but to be fair, Tatum was too. If a 9 yr. old little girl's ability to carry a film is not Oscar worthy, I don't know what is. Despite Tatum's addiction problems (and how could she NOT having Ryan O'Neal as a father), she remains a brilliant actress today.

  • lol why the hell is susan sarandon in the mini portrait

  • @mgblue I think the cameraman had sarandon confused with ronee blakely b/c they look alike. If you read sarandon's lips, you see she deduced the same thing.

  • Dzanier and all you other morons what the hell are any of you saying? Haha someone left the loony door open again.

Back on topic, Lee Grant was good but I agree Ronee Blakely gave a better performance, Brenda Vacarro's nom was kind of odd too as that movie was a stinker.

  • I don't get this award: Why anyone considers Beatty as an above-average actor/director/producer/wirter is beyond me. Shampoo was a dull film and seemed like an ego trip. His filmography is vastly overrated. Nominated for 4 Oscars in 1978 but it must've been a weak year, because Heaven can Wait is about as thematically complex as Ghost Town.

Even if Shampoo was good, Lee Grant's part is almost quantifiably unremarkable. Her part was the go-to-girl b/w Hawn and Christie and they both outacted her

  • Ronnee Blakley deserved it the MOST

  • sorry but ronee blakley looks susan sarandon.

  • to allow people...free people...to disagree with one political ideology from another, is the the american idealism of free speach..free worship..and the ability to disagree with one's government and still love it and strive for it's improvemnts...that is the american dream fulfilled.

  • the allow people...free people...to disagree with one political ideology from another, is the the american idealism of free speach..free worship..and the ability to disagree with one's government and still love it and strive for it's improvemnts...that is the american dream fulfilled.

  • Haha, Susan Sarandon wtf...

  • lmao @ Susan Sarandon xD when did she became the nominee???

That was a weird list. Besides the Nashville ladies, the others feel out of place.

  • So, there's that wedding dress I read about. So funny.

  • Lily deserved to win. I love Lee Grant though.

  • Was that Susan Sarandon instead of Ronee Blakley? Anyway, Blakley deserved to win.

  • Lee Grant..what an actress...and she bravely stared down the comittee for un-american activities during the 50s and was blacklisted for years because of it.

  • She was probably just like a lot of other actors and actresses, especially Jewish ones. She supported Russia and communist ideals. I don't agree with tactics like McCarhty's, but everything he suspected about their being a strong link between hollywood and communism, which is not only the biggest threat to America but the biggest threat to the world, was 100%accurate. He knew how great the threat was, although his tactics were questionable. I respect Lee Grant a lot less than you do.

  • @dzanier was this rubbish you wrote for real?

American 'freedom & liberty' and all that crap is just that...crap. You are a nation of flag waving christian fundermentalist neo fascists war mongers that exploits the world and can only survive in your grotesque state thanks to COMMUNIST CHINA financing your trillions of debt. Absurd CUNTry.

  • A wasted award for a mediocre performance. Should have been Lily Tomlin BY FAR, and wow that tiara!!!

  • Is it just me or does Madeline Kahn look like Reese Witherspoon?

  • @lubskoable YES, that was Susan Sarandon and her husband, Chris Sarandon.

  • I loved both Lily and Lee.

  • I think Lily Tomlin was probably the smartest to vehemently underplay her role...which it did require...and she was incredible...but Ronee Blakely deserved to win because without her, Nashville would not have been Nashville.....she represented the dream and nightmare of the music biz and of the American dream....I liked Shampoo but Nashville was the movie of the decade for many reasons.

  • @lubskoable She looks a lot like her, I agree. ^^

  • Lily Tomlin's outfit is so fucking perfect!

  • Lily Tomlin deserved this award. Watch her during the song "I'm Easy," just sitting there realizing the song is about her. That is the hardest thing in acting: sitting still and slowly reacting. She nailed it. And no affront to Ronee Blakely's juicier role, but it was nowhere as nuanced as Tomlin's, and Grant had no reason to even be nominated (if her, then why not Goldie Hawn or Julie Christie?).

And why was Louise Fletcher awarded Best Actress for what was a supporting role?

  • @WalterSobchak1998 Nuance isn't everything in a performance.

  • Ronee Blakely should have won! I admit, I haven't seen Grant's performance in the context of the film, but Blakely was just fantastic!

  • Madeline Kahn = hawt

  • Reese Witherspoon kinda looks like the female presenter

  • Why is Lilly Tomlin wearing a tiara? That's hilarious.

  • This was another classic case of vote splitting for two supporting actresses in the same film. It happened to Kikuchi and Barraza for "Babel" and it will happen again this year to Kendrick and Farmiga in "Up In the Air."

  • Monique deserves it hands down!

  • I just love Madeline Kahn too.

  • Grant is a terrific actress. It's too bad that Hollywood did not use her more often and more wisely. I love her in the last vignette in 1971's "Plaza Suite" with Walter Matthau.

  • Ronee Blakley deserved the Oscar that year. No question. Lee's was nada compared to Blakley's work.

    My Ranking:

    Blakley

    Tomlin

    Vaccaro

    Grant

    Miles

  • Doh! We missed Blakley's reaction because the cameraman had the camera on the WRONG PERSON!

  • Other than giving a great performance. IT WAS PAYBACK. Please do your research on how Hollywood Treated Lee Grant.

  • Excuse me, but has any of you seen Shampoo?

  • Yes we have seen Shampoo and a majority of us agree that her performance was nothing Oscar-worthy.

  • One of the worst wins ever! Ronee Blakley or Lily Tomlin should have won. Lee Grants win was just "sorry for blacklisting you". That's all.

  • Fantastic actress. If you ever get a chance to watch her in the 1951 movie The Detective Story, watch, she's great in it.

  • Could you please post clips of John Denver? I'm sure he and Mary Tyler Moore were the hosts.

  • 20s,30s40s50s,60s/70s/80 were the best in film !

  • She's cute

  • Why is the camera on Susan Sarandon?!

  • I was thinking that. Susan sure does looked shocked when Lee's name is announced.

  • Good question! It should've been on Ronee Blakley.

  • which one is susan sarandon?

  • Box in the upper left when they were showing the nominees.

  • One of the BEST wins ever!

  • That's pushing it...for me at least. I respect your opinion though.

I NEED to see the Nashville gals, but (as you know and hate) I still like Brenda over Lee.

  • It's Lili Von Shtupp and the M.C.!!

  • Ha! I LOVE Lily Tomlin's tiara!! She is so funny!!

  • LEE and LILLY used to play with the same sex toys....a black huge dildo. Nasty whores...

  • Shelly Duvall looks gorgeous in those three seconds we saw her, lol.

  • I acknowledge that Lee Grant won in the Best Supporting Actress category. My only complaint about the 1976 Academy Awards was that Jack Warden didn't win in the Best Supporting Actor category for SHAMPOO. He was excellent!! Lee and Jack should have won back to back Oscars!!

  • You are soo right on that - I still get mad when I think about it - Jack Warden totally deserved the Oscar

  • Ditto. I agree. I don't remember who won and it doesn't matter. All I know is that Jack Warden should have been chosen as the best.

  • It was George Burns for "Sunshine Boys" -- Academy went for sentiment that year

  • Lee Grant...had and still do have major crush on this lady. Her, and Janet Rule. Boy, do I pick the easy girls....... I believe Lee teaches acting in New York. Ah, to be young and look like George Maharis...then maybe they would at least look in the general direction of the city I live in........

  • Brena Vaccaro is the most underacted actress in movies history.

  • Madeline Kahn!!!!!!!! So AWESOME!!!!!

  • I luv Madeline Kahn. Just wonderful! So funny and adoreable!

  • great woman!!!!!!!

  • cool

  • What's with Lily Tomlin and the Tiara??????

  • She wore it for hoots.

  • She should won for Detective story. This Oscar was for Ronee.

  • They goofed and focused on Susan Sarandon, instead of Ronee Blaklee.

  • Poor Ronee, but hey, she got spared the agony of a reaction shot when she lost.

  • I absolutely loved Lee in Shampoo, it's one of my favorite films.

  • Here's a fact about Lee Grant you might not know - She turned down the role of "Dorothy" on The Golden Girls. They wanted Bea Arthur from the get go but she declined at first and offered it to other actresses including Lee Grant calling it a "Bea Arthur type role." Finally they got Bea Arthur to accept to play the role.

  • I rememeber the documentary that followed Lee Grant and the other nominees up through the whole process of Oscar. And that wonderful moment when, after winning, Lee Grant turned to her husband in the limo and shouted "We're in the car!" Priceless stuff! Congrats, Lee - especially in such a tough competetive year!

  • Hey Billy; I remember that documentary too! Do you know if it's on here anywhere?

  • Ronee should have won! She was amazing with Lily a close second.

  • What about Gwen Welles in "Nashville"? I thought she should have at least been nominated.

  • Great :))) Madeline Kahn and Joel Grey are beautiful duo :)))

  • Funny, funny line! (1:22)

  • Lee Grant - great and very talented actress.

  • Lily: "Oh, I'm clapping for myself!!"

  • Lee totally deserved to win!

  • I don't get all the thumbs down. Lily, Ronnee and Lee were brilliant. They can't ALL win. I prefer Lily to the other two, but 1975 was damn fine year for this category and Lee Grant was as deserving as the other two. I haven't seen Vacarro's work, but Miles was excellent in Farewell, My Lovely.

  • The only real contenders her were Lee Grant, and the "Nashville" gals - the other two were mere fillers.

Who else think's Lee deserved her win.

  • Madeline Kahn was the best part of the night. God give her an honorary oscar already, a star who should have been a superstar. A true origianl.

  • Ah shucks. I miss Madeline Kahn.

  • @ragemanchoo82 She was demonically funny. I also love her in "What's Up, Doc' and, especially, "Paper Moon". It's sad that Hollywood never fully realized her talents.

  • Lily Tomlin in a tiara...giggle :)

  • Ronee Blakley =))))

  • and then they keep the camera on susan sarandon!!

  • Lee Grant was riveting in Shampoo! A very deserving win.

  • Goldie Hawn buried her in that movie.

  • Does anyone know what song the orchestra is playing? It sounds like "Wouldn't It be Nice" by the Beach Boys which would make sense because that song plays over the end credits of SHAMPOO.

  • Madeline Kahn!

  • Ronee or Lily definitely deserved this over Lee for their particular parts. OMG it is Susan Sarandon!

  • It was definitely Susan Sarandon. Notice that her then-husband, Chris Sarandon, leaned over into the picture. By the way, the best thing she ever did was keep his last name. It sounds just a bit better than her maiden name, Tomalin!

  • A very deserved win!

  • that was a classy speech by Lee Grant, who was blacklisted 20 years before. no sour grapes from her although she would have every right for that

  • Smart of Lily Tomlin to wear a crown. Either way she's a winner. LOL.

  • I always liked Lee Grant. It was fun watching this.

  • If you ask me Lee Grant is the only sober one. The cameraman was high, Sylvia was drunk, Lily was on a LSD trip where she thought she was at Buckingham Palace, Brenda was high (look at her hair)....so good job Lee for staying sober.

  • except she's wearing an old wedding dress

  • You are hiliarious! AND DEAD ON!!!

  • Lee Grant? No way!

Lily Tomlin! This is the winner!

  • i met her a few years ago she is a really nice person!!!

  • ronee blakley looks susan sarandon.

  • I think she looks like Shelley DuVaull...who was also in Nashville.

  • I think they made a mistake and capped young Susan Sarandon who also looked rather embarrased about stealing the spotlight from the one who its belongs to

  • i also thought that was Susan Sarandon.

  • RIP Madeline Kahn. Funny woman.

  • They go from showing Ronne Blakely in Nashville, to showing Susan Saradon as the nominee, for the rest of the entire clip!

  • and I think Susan knows it!

  • I think she deserved her Oscar.

  • God, anyday you could upload new videos.

  • someone should had told Lily Tomblin she was not being inguarted as Queen if she won.

  • Sylvia Miles got nominated for 2 Oscars? Oh, my god!

  • Yes, and she deserved not only both nominations, but very probably the ward for "Midnight Cowboy," don'tcha think...?

  • Yes.

  • From the blacklist to an Oscar ... tremendous.

  • she was on the blacklist?

  • Yes, I think she refused to testify against husband Adolf Manoff (father to Lee's daughter Dinah Manoff, the girl who commits suicide in "Ordinary People").

  • Aww- did you see how Lily Tomlin was clapping for herself for a few seconds when they announced her nomination before she was like, "oops!" and stopped?

    Hehe, good old Lily....

  • Yes, you can see her saying 'Why am I clapping for myself?'

  • Could you upload

    *Mary Steenburgen's win

    *Joel Grey's win

    *Joe Pesci's win

    *John Mills's win

    *Beatrice Straight's win

    *Ben Johnson's win

    Please

  • LILY TOMLIN RULES!!!

  • Lily Tomlin should have won.

  • i like the looks of ms myles and ms tomlin.

  • that camera asshole!

robbed ronee blakely of her well deserved moment

  • lee grant and lily tomlin are so cute no matter how frightening the outfit were

but goddamnittt sylvia miles???? was she high? she looked like ahmed the dead

  • all of the above.

  • Is Lily Tomlin a member of a royal family? I had no idea. lol

  • She's a damn attractive woman!!

  • Funny thing about Lee Grant. She looks exactly the same now as she did back then

  • ah, the days when white women looked like women instead of ironed out wax figures dipped in botox. sigh...!

  • Why is the camera on Susan Sarandon?

  • A booboo presumably. She looks great, doesn't she?

  • Because her brother, Chris Sarandon was up for a Supporting Actor Oscar for "Dog Day Afternoon" and the cameraman screwed up and focused on his sister, Susan, instead of nominee Ronnee Blakley for "Nashville".

  • Chris was Susan's HUSBAND not her brother. I still remember that moment. Watch as Susan asks "What if I win??

  • Does anyone notice Sylvia Miles at 0:36???

What kind of crack is she smoking???

  • She afterwards told reporters "there was so much alcohol in the lobby that you either fought them or joined them. And you know I never fight", so I assume she was drunk. A great lady who managed to steal the sole scenes she was given in her Oscar-nominated roles.

  • phst, shoulve put it down.

  • Could U please upload

    - John Mills's Win

    - Joe Pesci's win

    - Gene Hackman's First win

I'm a huge fan of Lee and always wanted to see this.Great! :-))

  • Thank you so very much for posting this.I'm a huge fan and never saw this before...Thanks!

  • the camera was on Susan Sarandon, instead of Ronee! :))

  • Its great to see Madeline Kahn on here and she should have Won an Oscar Herself.

    A Very Sadly Missed Actress.

  • Certainly. She is wonderful. She should have won for either Paper Moon or Blazing Saddles. She was also memorable in quite a few other movies. I love her.

  • Lily Tomlin is so cute. She did not seem pissed, she seemed happy for Lee Grant. But I'm still disappointed that Lily did not win.

  • Could U please upload

    - Joe Pesci's win

    - Gene Hackman's First win

    - Joel Grey's win

    - Timothy Hutton's win

    - Mary Steenburgen's win

    - Richard Dreyfuss's win

    - Jason Robards's win

  • I think Lee Grant was blackballed during the Mcarthy years!

  • she was.

    this is why she won.

  • IT is called payback. The fucked over Lee many moons ago with her believes and whatnots. THE Academy got it right.

  • Lily Tomlin and Ronee Blakely unfortunately split the vote between each other. That's why many pundits insisted they weren't going to win that night.

  • don't get why she won for this. Maybe it was payback for how she was screwed over with all the blacklisting before. Anyway she was okay in Shampoo, but not even the best supporting performance, Julie Christie was better than her. I think Lily Tomlin should have won. She was incredible in Nashville.

  • What are you people talking about, Lee Grant deserved this! She was better than the rest.

  • Lily Tomlin should have won it hands down.

  • Lili or Ronee should have won, but Lee Grant became afterwards and remarkable documentary filmmaker. She's a good actress too.

  • Lily was robbed.

  • Brenda Vacarro was a horrible bitch when she's drunk, which was often.

  • Lee Grant is an amazing actress, but I think this Oscar should've gone to Lily Tomlin. Can't complain though about Grant getting an Oscar.

  • Lily Tomlin RULES!

  • That's so funny! They are obviously showing the actresses on a screen at the ceremony. Look at Susan Sarandon as she realises she's up on the screen and shouldn't be!

  • This clip is disturbing on these levels:

    1.Lee Grant's "wedding" dress.

    2.Sylvia Miles's "look"

3.Ronnee Blakely is Susan Sarandon secretly.

    4.Brenda Vacarro's "style"

    AND

5.Lily Tomblin, and everything she did in this. Espically her crown, WTF!!!!!!!!!

  • Just when you made that comment on Ronee Blakely resembling Susan Sarandon. I re-watched this clip and realized that is Susan Sarandon with her then husband Chris Sarandon.(Who was a nominee) Camera guy made a mistake focusing on Sarandon instead of Blakely.:D

  • All great actresses, but Lee Grant's performance in Shampoo is one of my favorites. She totally deserved this!

  • Thank you, finally someone else agree's that Lee did deserve to win!!!

  • Lee Grant didn't deserve the Oscar but I am glad she at least won one, she was really good in Detective story, Airport 77 and Voyage of the damned.

  • first they showed Ronee Blakley and then they showed Susan Sarandon.

  • Susan Sarandon should've reacted like "damn, I lost!" :D

  • Brenda Vaccaro has always been overlooked an underated.
