Great topic. I didn't give this sort of thing much thought until recently. I was laid off from my job about a year ago and I have not found a new full time job yet. The other day I got a call from my old job asking if I was still available, I said absolutely. Now I am a bit scared of what they will think when they see me again. I look somewhat different. I now weigh 10 pounds less and have much longer hair. They don't know that I have moved more towards the androgynous end of the spectrum.
To someone just entering the job market, the background check can be a scary deal. There's no "history" to fall back on. Absolutely agree honesty is the best policy, but require sthat the person be willing to say "I'm a T-person so when you check up on me, check under (old name goes here)." Surprisingly, that's less harmful than anything. I recently (had to as a manager) go thru the can-do, can't-do for interviews. We're somewhat protected :-) (was stealth at the time). Thanks dear Shay.-Stephie
