There are also real belt swords, it's apart of an indian martial art, you have to be a top ranking master of it to even get to the point where you can begin training with it though

It's part of the martial art, you have to be a high ranking student in the martial art before you can train with it, it's more of a whip sword, but you can wear it around your waist, like a belt.

You know like if your training in kenjutsu you have to train with a wooden sword before your allowed to begin practicing with a real one, stuff like that. If you can imagine how dangerous such a weapon as a whip sword is, it's clear the practitioner should already have a stable foundation in the art.
