hey you know what its easy to make fun of this dude at UFC 2 but anyone whose willing to get into a figfht willingly (especeilly in the early days of MMA) has my respect and he gained even more in this fight i mean a 53 year old guy knocked a young kid out in the first round i hope Ettish proved something to himself
hey deathewhisperer is it? how dare you call him a bum, this man has had not only a harder life than anyone whos said anything here ( put together even) but hes worked his ass off big time to get where he is today dojo and all, and also dont any of you think for a min he couldent beat you, his style by the way... is kempo. i know the guy he was my father's sensei
i was born 9 days before that fight in 1994 otherwise my dad would have been walking with him and randy i know that for a fact
amazing that you could be fighting so long and still have a really terrible style and notion of fighting.... good on them conquering personal goals.... but my god if that isn't the one of the worst fights i've ever seen

Fred Ettish is a fucking bitch. It's pretty fucking difficult to win a fight after you've gotten kicked in the nuts, and he totally kicked that guy in the nuts, which is just against the rules of human decency in professional fights. I will totally go for the nuts in a real fight; but in a ring, that's just bad form. I have no respect for that asshole.
Many people dont even know what Fred Ettish went through. He was nothing more than a towel boy who got pulled into the ring the last minute with literally no training at all and got radiculed for being beaten by fully trained, physically superior and more experienced fighter who had about 70 pounds of weight advantage. Thats like 6 ft tall average man going into pre school and beat up a random kid wearing Gi. Although it is a bit weird to know Fred Ettish was a Marine
@Caliell Dude, you got the story wrong big time. Fred Ettish was a 5th degree black belt in Shorin-Ryu karate and was slated to be alternate for the tournament (He was one of two). Johnn Rhodes didn't outweigh him by 70 pounds, the weight difference was closer to 30 pounds.
The one part you did get right was that Ettish was called to fight on only a few minutes notice. He wasn't a towel boy, he just volunteered to help backstage because nobody anticipated a pull out.
Good Job to Fred Ettish. All the fighters from the early UFCs has balls of steel. There was just a huge danger factor involved to fight in those days. Now the UFC is just a sport with so many rules and gloves. Kudos Fred!!
They are not very good fighters. I think Fred´s opponent went 0-9 after this fight. The technique is somewhat sloppy and whatnot. But I still congratulate Fred on having the guts to step into the ring and redeem himself. A fight like this is tough, even if this is nowhere near the elite level.
People were too hard on Fred after his first UFC fight. He went in there with only Kenpo training an hung in there against a bigger opponent who had boxing and kickboxing experience.
@DavidxJDxWilson no loud mouthed cowardly pussies like you talking about men with balls, (something you will never have) make MMA look like a pussy sport.
Try not to spill over the american oreos and milk on your carpet as you develop online warrior rage at my comments.
fred really didnt need to do this second fight but the fact he did means he has done something the arm chair assholes, the keyboard warriors the world over who sit on youtube all day and type like experts with their ninja words of death on sherdog (shittydog) have never done...................won a pro MMA fight!!!! These cunts like to mouth off. I wouldnt mind if they said freds karate in ufc 2 was useless but dont ridicule the mans immense fighting heart and courage
The beating he took in his debew showed he had more heart then most meny fighters and to win a fight at 53 is amazing People this guy isn't a great mma fighter he might even ....suck. He is a man ho we will never forget for his toughness and story of will.
@eddiebmx the guy who lost feels like a fighter. All fighters win and lose. Only cowardly bullys and online warriors sneer from the sidelines. Tell me what does it feel like to be a no balls online warrior sneering?
@gurugobind1 sorry bud, I dont see it as sneering as you put it, im just a big mma fan, nice as a guy fred might be hes always gonna be remembered as the fetal fighter
Being a rabid practitioner and a retired competitor of BJJ and freestyle wrestling and having trained in Muay Thai and Boxing, I understand the physical and mental demands of each sport. I have fought inside as well as outside of the MMA ring, and I can tell you that no matter what arena or venue you compete in, you still have my respect. More power to you, Fred!
Moaben, if you're implying that the level of conditioning or whatever isn't the same as those who train to fight in the octagon for a living, then I agree with you. If not, then I don't think you know what you're talking about.
@Ebureto I think he´s also saying the skill level is far below what we normally see in MMA. The striking and grappling are very lacking. But I think anyone who fights in the cage deserves respect, especially at the age of 53. Both these fighters would whoop most MMA fans for sure. Fred should get some credit for the fight.
