RD is a reminder to how good British Sitcoms once were (80's/90's being the peak). PC has killed comedy these days because the TV producers are afraid of offending people.

Rimmer was the characer from which most of the jokes came. When he left in series 7 it created a void that couldn't be filled. Kachanski was ok as a prop/extra but she was never going to replace Rimmer. It was kind of sad when Rimmer left and I can remember getting excited when I knew he'd be returning in series 8. Barrie played an excellent role in Rimmer and RD is nothing without him.
