  • I am in symphonic band at school, which is like leet band for the school. We played this X3

  • Holy clarinets! We only have four. We are playing this same song... oh boy.

  • why are the horns in a weird place?!? never seen that before. and go first chair guy clarinet! and horn dude.

  • 33 people disliked because they didn't make it to honor band

  • Beautiful!!!

  • i love korean song

  • trumpets? >.>

  • my big bro played that song in his wind assemble in adams band!! such a good song!!!

  • Still have this memorized after playing it seven years ago. My I started to tick off my jazz professor in college gme since I choose to use the intro to warm up all the time.

  • I'm Korean, and I approve of this ensemble :)

  • 44de555

  • Played this song this year (freshman). The bass clarinet part at the beginning is great. I always hear bands play this sooo slow, and this was a pleasant exception. The ending to this song is also just too epic for words.

  • THE EFFING BASS CLARINETTTT PARTTT IS SO EVIL...

  • @twilightz0ne001 is NOT I played it last year just fine :)

  • come on maaan i dont wanna see the clarinets all the time

  • High Five for Euphoniums

  • I played the gong "Solo" as a 7th grader. >= D

  • Yes middle schoolers you may be "playing" this song, but do you play this song well?

  • i play this song in middle school

  • It's funny how I'm in MIDDLE SCHOOL and I'm playing this next week. GO CROSS TIMBERS!!!!!!

  • I remember struggling to play the second variation on bassoon in high school. The director eventually told us to let the tenor sax player handle it. =) Sounds like Mr. Camphouse did the same thing. Ridiculously hard on bassoon.

  • Alto Saxophone Representing!

  • my school fixin to play this...GO French HORNS

  • I take it this is a highschool band... i'm an eigth grader and i'm playing this in band for UIL which is in a month or so, and we're sightreading this tomorrow.

  • God! you guys sound really good!! im barely a freshman in high school and its a little complicated but i love the way you guys sound!

  • dear god i have to do the oboe solo in band this year!! D: for marching band i played mellophone so im not used to oboe anymore uugggghhhh

  • @lin4200 youll be fine =]

  • i am a trumpet in this song in my school band

  • TOO FAST!

  • @riceboy47 Too fast? Which part. The ensemble I'm in in college (we have two symphonic bands), plays the second variation faster than this...

  • nice job, i wish we sounded this good when my high school band played this. i had the trumpet solo, and i still get nervous when i hear the middle part before the solos haha

  • The oboe needed a little more practice on that solo - the notes kept catching. I played this solo in high school and it took me a while to be able to play it without them catching. Then again honor bands don't get soo much practice time together so that's probably why...

  • oboe rushed the solo but it was still good

  • This takes me back! We performed this arrangement my junior year of high school.

The runs on the clarinet at the beginning made me hate life for quite some time, haha!

Beautiful song, though, and beautifully done, as well!

  • Dude!! I wish my High School band would sound this good. :D Bravo!

  • This is a good song. You guys did great.

  • i am korean and i really thank this band for playing the arirang, the korean folk song. i really appreciated it

  • I apologize, my former comment was incorrect. It is not the TMEA All Region Band from North East Texas. It is the Four States Bandmaster's Association Honor Band, made up of high school students from Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma.

  • at the end timpini player really brought it out

  • Oboe player rushed the solo a little bit. Other than that, an excellent performance. I played the 3rd trombone part on this, way back in '88-'89 school year in Penn Hills Senior High School (13 miles east of Pittsburgh, PA).

  • KOREANS ARE AWESOME!!

  • I remember playing this song as first trumpet in high school. This band is great. I just hope we sounded as good. While watching this band i can see my friends and I learning and rehearsing this song. Thanks very much!!

  • I played this once. I played both the Eb and Bb clarinet in it, so I had to keep switching instruments throughout. It was pretty fun though!

  • i like the different uniforms. it looks original. i think more people should be in the colorful uniforms

  • My band is playing this song and its amazing! We are taking it to super state in Illinois! Marion Junior High School Wind Ensemble...

  • My band is playing this song and its amazing! We are taking it to super state in Illinois! Marion Junior High School Wind Ensemble...

  • lol in my school the saxes play the second part of the vivace, measure 53, where there are low Bb to the low c and Eb. quite hard, yet the saxes here did not play it. Too hard?

  • So what kind of honor bandis this?

  • awesome! we r learnin tht at our high school. its an amazing song but u gotta practice hard to get it to sound like tht

  • awesome! we r learnin tht at our high school. its an amazing song but u gotta practice hard to get it to sound like tht

  • awesome! we r learnin tht at our high school. its an amazing song but u gotta practice hard to get it to sound like tht

  • yall sound like a marching band...not bad tho.

  • I love the larghetto section

  • the beggining of the con islancio section with the percussion is moving too slow

  • Our school is playing this, I have to say I am QUITE th-eee gong player.

Oh, By the way, The mismatching of the uniforms looks disorganized clashy.

  • love it love it. the only thing is though on the last variation to the end our school plays it with more build, and i personally love how it sounds

  • We're playing this at my middle school. I'm not sure that the previous commenter's "were playing this in 6th grade" is true, but whatever. The only trouble we have is staying on tempo. But I play bass clarinet so I don't have too much control over it. Hopefully we play it well in the concert tomorrow!

  • About to perform this at festival is coming together nicely.

  • RazorZRX, I totally agree. Unfortunately, I play tenor, not alto, so our part is easier :( The sad part is though, this band did better in probably an afternoon than our varsity band has done in over three months, though not all that time was dedicated to this song.

  • I don't get the uniform of the one flute player with the marching uniform top and the mini-shorts bottom.

THAT'S a look! Bet the principal of that school wants to cringe.

  • it's a drum major uniform most likely for a military marching style band

  • @McKennahLane that's most likely a drum major uniform

  • @McKennahLane more then likely she was a flag or twirler.

  • One thing I love about you tube... you can find any work you want to go back and remember.

THIS was one of my favorites from my high school band days.

    Thanks for the memories.

  • we are playing this song for mpa in our band.( I play saxaphone)

  • We are too! I play Alto Sax. Vivace FTW!

  • Alto saxes =) FTW

  • 5:49 what happened there? snares were a bit off but piece was good!! quite a challenge

  • the oboe needs more practice but sounds good other than that! we're preparing this for a contest and its really difficult but beautiful!!

  • Ok, whoever did the oboe solo totally failed, but the rest wasn't too bad.

My band is playing it right now.

  • @phebbay125 seriously? i do as well!

  • This parts in the piece arent that bad. its jsut playing all the things together. especially that octatonic part

  • That one time at the band camp...

Just messing haha. Looks like band camp in here though lol

  • im in 6th grade and we got to play it for a concert. its coming along really good!

  • in an honor high school band we are playing this song and preparing it in less than two days... its fun thats for sure

  • Why are some of them wearing marching band uniforms?

  • We're playing this for a band festival, and our Varsity Band is playing it. Reading some of the comments, our middle school band throughout all 3 years would never be able to play anything close to this, though we learn to play instruments in sixth grade. If an eigth grade band can pull this off, kudos to you guys, because ITS FRICKEN INSANE!!!!!!!

  • i am in seventh grade and we r playing this...... but im in the eighth grade band. but its like, really hard

  • it gets easier as time goes on

  • Dude, we totally convinced our director to let us FINALLY do this piece in the spring. I'm HELLA excited! I just hope we can pull it off.

  • This is a very difficult piece, its a double A by festival standards where i am and we are playing it this year. But this band did a great job. =]

  • we're playing this in my 8th grade band why is a high school honors band playing it?

  • Because your 8th grade band must be REALLY FRICKEN GOOD. My college band played this...

  • @andyb1314... yeah, your 8th grade band is either freakin amazing, or you guys watered it down, as this is a very hard piece... and besides, who says high school bands can't play this piece?

  • we played these variations for marching band it was a bite faster. though we got a 2 we deserved a 1. back in 2000

  • It was good...but it just seemed like 2 dynamics to me. If those piano moments are considered soft, then that's not really a noticeable difference...anyway, I love this song, my band is doing it this year for winter concert.

  • were playing this in my 8th grade band

  • lol so am i. i play french horn and we've alrdy had our winter concert but we r still playing it. all region tryouts for us are on saturday. i cant wait.

  • Love this piece!!!!! We played this my sophomore year in high school and we played faster than this....not because we rushed it's because we raised the tempo in the beginning. Anyway it was the most fun I've had playing trombone in a while. I also play some parts of this on my guitar lol I'd play this every year if I could...This band sounds bad ass, so many musicians I don't know how they got the balance and intonation right, but they did!!!! Great Job!

  • i'm playing this in my high school concert band, its fun to play but its little bit difficult .

  • ha, i'm practicing this song right now at school. it's a really good song. but compare to our band, this band's trumpet is way better than ours

  • THank You! Thank You! Thank You! Now Playing on My Facebook Wall!

  • I play this song at my school :) I play Timpani :D

Mark Camphouse is a great conductor. He directed me once at an honor band

  • this is my favorite song I ever played in hs band! very nice job guys =) And really nice sound piccolo!

  • Someone had the camera on "take picture of overzealous snare player" mode

  • What happened to having matching uniforms??

  • This is most likely a state or region or even county honor's band. Students from the qualifying region audition and a certain number makes it in - they NEVER have the opportunity for matching uniforms. I've done this kind of band all through middle and high school... High Schools make their kids wear marching uniforms to represent their school. I hated these bands because a lot of players were overly cocky, not very well, couldn't work together, always out of tune and tried to be the loudest!!!

  • Didn't you read discription hahaha it was an honor band

  • We are playing this song in band, it's hard...very fast.

  • we are playing this too! it is hard!

  • ok....how does that "add %fmt=18 to the video URL" work? Ive seen it work miraculously on other HQ videos.....and i totally laughed at the early trumpet entrance at 1:03!!!

  • not enough tuba.

  • wow a whole high school band that actually looks at their conductor. amazing!

  • this is one of our concert songs this year for my school :)

  • What's with all the marching uniforms?

  • this band is most likely a combination-some of theme are also in marching band

  • Wow, we played this way back when I went to school in 1983!! Clarinet player, and I loved that piece!! I'm noticing the different uniforms. Was this an all-state band or something?

  • is this a clinic?

  • yay! we r using this in our marching band show!!!

  • I played the oboe solo in this in high school.

  • @oboerox203 i did too lol i loved it!!!

  • Slow, and ii played this in orchestra. Its fun. Though this is the first time ive heard it on wind, and brass ext.

  • I was so close to getting the oboe solo in this song last year but was beat out by an upper classmen probably just because she hadn't ever had a solo before that. But it was still fun playing it.

  • I did it as a clarinet (we had no oboes)

  • Damn I love Pentatonic scales

  • I sight read that song today! i think its really good and i love my part! i think we're were going to do it for band festival =] When i hear it like this though... i really want to play it lol!

  • Arirang is sprit of Korea

  • i luv this song so much i clarinet on it..

  • we are using this song and "Fantasy on a Japanese Folk Song" in for our marching band show "Reflections on the Orient"

    im so excited!

  • A symphonic band can be only wind and percussion. A wind ensemble can be only wind and percussion. It's not the size nor members (seeing as strings would mean orchestra), its what they play. This would be a symphonic band because this is practically a work that requires a philharmonic sound.

  • yeah, that is way too big for a wind ensemble. and personally, i think the beginning could be slower and more lugubrious and sonorous

  • variations in "arirang"

  • Far Too slow.

  • ooooh you guys are a big wind ensemble, and a big brass section , thats a great thing especially for "dark" chords.

  • I lpve this song I got to play piccolo on it

  • I had to sight read this piece today. It was pretty fun to play.

  • im in 6th grade and i have to play this song on tenor sax

  • Our band (East Kentwood) played this at Magic Kingdom a few years ago.

  • No offense, but this is no wind ensemble. Try one on a part for that. This is like huge freaking symphonic band. It does sound good though!

  • Symphonic ensembles include strings and percussion, wind ensembles are wind and percussion. and it appears to be an alumni night or something that's why there are so many

  • My band played this song for concert and sight reading contest. I had a blast with the oboe solo. GREAT SONG.

  • i play bassoon=]

  • Why's everybody wearing different uniforms?

  • well, why not?

  • it's an honors band. they're all wearing their school's uniform to represent their home band

  • go clarinets!!!!!!!

  • I played trumpet on this song in my band it was amazing

  • so did i. these guys are way better than us. this piece kicked my ass.

measures 72-73, need i say more?

  • The historical background of this song is the Japanese colonial period of Korea. It was composed during the 1920s in Korea.

  • there are three kinds. treditional/ one that you're talking about/ and arranged version of treditional song, which was used in a movie in 1926.

  • versions from colonial period are only several of many versions of this song

  • Yeah Tubas!

  • 5:27~ piccolo doesnt even attempt the run! what a shame :(

still a great sounding band though!

  • Oh yeah! And if the person who played oboe solo in this reads this, you sound good! Just woulda sounded better if you hadn't rushed. probably nerves though so I dun blames ya

  • My High School band played this last year. It sounded amazing! I played bass clarinet [i know oboe, alto sax, trombone, and most string instruments though] and because we didn't have a barri sax, i got, I believe, it's the third movement of it, the dotted half notes? all to myself before oboe came in ^^ We're a band of about 45 but we know how to give off this kinda sound. ^^/

Anyway, this band sounds awesome. Lucky to have that many kids.

  • I think it may be a county band or something like that. That may be why they all have different uniforms

  • omg! my middle school symphony band played this last year for our winter concert! the flute/piccolo part is IMPOSSIBLE!

  • oh yeah !! go horns !!

  • I like how they got every instrument a band could have. Nice size band they sounded REAL good. GO TROMBONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • my band at my school plays it. but not verry well haha

  • 2:55... thats okay. we're not all perfect

  • looke at the size of that band.

  • i love mark camphouse. he has a great personality! our hs band preformed at george mason last week and we were lucky enough to have him conduct us! i love this peice, it has a great sound!

  • Awesome, but they played the begging a lot faster then what my wind ensemble does.

  • Go trumpets!!!

  • Um..... my sax could beat your trumpet any day...

    just sayin'

  • Saxophones are ftw

  • Moar like FTL. Trumpets are undisputedly the most important section. Deal with it.

  • Percussion...?

  • tubas are. unless ur talking about just the song

  • we played this but our teacher is a strict bastard and made it harder by adding parts and were in 6th grade so we are hella good

  • Oooh oboe tick ~2:50

  • yeah, I noticed that too. =\ it stil sounded awesome though! =)

  • hey why are all of the kids wearing different uniforms

  • MOst likely its an honor band and when they do their final performance they all wear your school uniform

  • love this song. were playing it in band and i play percussion

  • this song is amazing. my band (liberty hs wind ensemble) is playing this. so much fun!

    _BARI SAX PLAYERS RULE!

  • amen brother

  • Woot woot for piccolo players!!

  • It is so cool to hear that this piece is still being played by school bands. My high school band played it back around 1980ish and I have loved this piece every since.

  • This kind of music can never die on this earth, for it is the heart of it and the meaning and the glory.

  • Is this some type of honors band collaboration? They're all wearing different uniforms . . .

  • Yes, Four States Honor Band

  • So beautiful~~!!
